Whether you know it or not, you have probably seen or skated a spot built by Jerry Mraz. Over the last decade, Jerry has been creating skatespots throughout the 5 boroughs, pouring concrete in the middle of the night and tinkering with obstacles - all on his own dime. Many of his spots have come and gone, but some of his most recognized work, like the BQE, still remains standing and is famous among skateboarders throughout the world. While these days he has been spending more of his time actually riding his skateboard, he assured us that he would not be slowing down modifying spots anytime soon. Continuing our Locals series, we drove around and took a DIY spot tour of NYC with him and documented his story with support of Levi’s Skateboarding.

This guy should have a kickstarter or something to get donations for this.
Man of the year, much respect
There aren't enough superlatives to properly describe this guy. The work he does around the world for skateboarders is unbelievable. An absolute one of a kind human being.
swatchwatchable and it'd almost like he doesn't want any credit for it at all.
drove a cab just to scope possible DIY skate spots! That's so rad! total dedication!
We need more people like this dude. Mad respect, keep it going bro. True street skater spirit.
Be that dude then!
Dylan J I've been definitely influenced and inspired to start doing it by Pontus Alv the couple past years, but I don't get any support from dudes around to physically go and do it. People don't dig it, they rather go to a skatepark. Also I need incomings that would allow me to afford that much to spend on the materials.
***** Nick everything then, it's not hard.
Selfless, Modest, Humble & a fuckin bad ass.
11/10
If this isn't art, idk what is
paintings and stuff
damn. mad respect. the unsung heros
Ur damn profile picture scared me haha
yep. wish i was selfless like that.
The guy deserves a crew of guys helping him.
Jerry is the man. Thanks for your spot builds in Detroit too.
Long live the wig hermano
This dude has some Heart and Passion. The world need more people like him. He might not call himself a hero, but to some people, he definitely is. I hope karma kicks in and he finds some big cash somehow because he deserves it. Never stop doing what you love!
"I think I skim-coated the ledge at one point.. I can't remember, yeh I did.."
Such a film 🌟
Reminds me of the rail my dad welded for me when I was 10. Every skateboarder in town road that rail over a 10 year period. It was stolen from me, given to someone, sold to someone and I got it back. Then it was stolen again and it must have changed hands 20x over the years.
😂
What a flippin G! Warms my old heart!
23 is still young my guy
Mad respect towards him. Keep it up man! I love the skateboarding scene, glad to see people like this keeping it going

There truly are some amazing people on this planet. Wow.
Legend, i remember a few spots growing up that could have been really fun, with a couple of things ironed out.
Keep doing it! This guy should get royalties from the whole industry, then he could do this for a living.
He’s doing gods work yo! We salute you my man! 🙏🏼 🍻
DIY is where it's at. Build it and they will come....True DIY warriors.
really cool dude.
thanks for sharing!
Every city needs at least one of these dudes. Boss
Mad props to this dude! That's sick that he's making rough spots skateable for himself and the youth of the city, skateboarding got me into some trouble but i have for sure avoid much worse trouble and made life long friends. I've been skateboarding for 23 years as of Jan 23. Holy shit that's a long time to still suck at it! haha
You sir are a legend!
Super dope. Happy to see this vid
95th and 3rd ave used to have some dope ass humps we used to skate back in 2000-2005. there were a lot of dope spots up there, washington projects had built these concrete seats with this 1ft tall concrete pad we used to skate. i wonder if its still there.
Hell yeah that’s so inspiring thanks
This dude is about as legit as it gets - though I'm always surprised people in 'urban augmentation' are even willing to come forward on camera at all. Because I doubt the city really distinguishes between your run of the mill tagging and DIY sculpting action, so aren't you incriminating yourself?
This is really awesome
What a badass, that man deserves an award from the skate community
Soooo much respect!
Props to this OG
Just saw the new Blessed vid with his spots in it and then stumbled upon this piece. Fucking true legend out there on the front lines of skateboarding. DONT EVER STOP MOVING FENCES
We had an epic downhill line going on and off sidewalks to avoid snags, holes and gnarly surfaces. There was this one high speed part where we were forced to clip ollie or ollie this angled low curb and one in six times it was a cause for eating it. A couple of wrists , a few ankles and yards of road rash later we took action and rolled up with a bucket of cement and a trowel. As we were half way through the police rolled up and asked what we were doing. So we just told the truth and they just said “ It looks great. Good job “ 🙏

Have you ever thought about how skating is like the cordiceps fungi that infects the ants to guide their behavior in order to exist, I feel like skateboarding does the same to us, once we start building it spreads.
