Shamefully, I usually don't always leave out comments to express my gratitude towards people who teach others how to do things, but this tutorial was so useful for me (someone who is a hardcore electronic music listener wanting to make a step towards producing - knowing exactly what they want to achieve but not knowing how and being frustrated about it) that I can only say thank you for changing my life for the better. And you voice is very pleasant.
This is really useful - quite a few handy workflow issues covered that I wasn't aware of before such as the sample bit rate, resampling channel and using fades. Much more elegant than what I was doing previously and look forward to using those in my future work.
hey, this is amazing. Abletondaily tutorials are one of the greatest i've found on youtube. truly appreciate your work, tips and insights. also these drones are gorgeous! really helpful and interesting video!
Man you really have a gift for teaching. The way you narrate is perfect. Is there any chance you can revist this in more depth it's a topic I'm slowly becoming fascinated. If you have any other good drone material or modulation hints I'd appreciate it
Well done video. Very handy. Easy to follow and understand. Good insight and explanations of "WHY" and "HOW" you make changes. Thank you for taking the time to make this and share it. :-)
Thank you for this fantastic tutorial. I was debating weather the operator would be capable of making such beautiful sounds. Cos the whole interface looks somewhat to plain. But found this very intriguing.
great stuff...i've been viewing your tutorials for the past couple of weeks, and they are succinct and quite intuitive...would it be possible for you to cover some tried and true techniques regarding eq'ing as well as song structure within the framework of ableton?
Best Ableton tutorial I've seen now, simple and effective, also your voice is calm and clear. I will post a reaction video of my song I made with the drone sound I learned from you, can I?
Thanks so much for these videos. This is the second time viewing this specific video and I grasped a lot more this time through for some reason. You explain things well.
You explain so well . . . ! It'd be great if you could make a video on granular synthesis involving phase utility based sounds along with some automation based stuff . . . I hope that made some sense . . :D Great tutorial . . :)
Awesome tutorial. Really gonna help my skillset out with these more organic ambient sounds instead of just straight pads or synth presets. Thanks a bunch
yes, this tutorial definitely gives me power up and inspiration. thanks! i've got a question: when i transpose audio file and then i want to move it to the sampler, it seems to sound like original sample. What should i do to have edited that value in sampler ? I tried to colapse clips and after moving to sampler it's still the same.. cheers
Exactly what I was waiting for, more ambient sounds please ! Or some lovely sounds so spice up your break/intro before another drop, would be greatly appreciated :) dont wanna use anyones work, better to do it yourself! Also subscribed, thanks!
at 10:29 why does transposing the audio clip slow it down (increase the audio length)? can somebody pls explain that to me? BTW its an amazing video. I learned a lot from this fantastic tutorial. I wish @abletonlive made more of such contents : D
Hahaha i just folowed that tutorial at the end of a long night on ableton, and afway through it i was like OMG AMEN... gone to sleep and made sweeeet dreams thank you
@nathansm11 Yes, I forgot to mention I have some custom preferences in Live. Go to Live > Preferences. Click on the Record/Warp section. Make sure Arm is turned OFF for Exclusive. This will allow you to record, play and Arm many tracks at once. Or hold down the Command Key (Ctrl on Windows), this will allow you to Arm more then one track at the same time -Mark
Newbie here - when you duplicate the clip and fade from one to another, you mentioned you changed the chord. Can you select which chords you fade into? For example if I have a particular chord progression in mind?
Nice tutorial thanks, I'm having a problem with release. It cuts off abruptly when the next chord is played, and begins the slow attack, resulting in a dip in volume every time a chord changes, no matter how long a release i set. The release works when pressing keys just not from the midi notes. Any idea why that is? cheers
@konnichiwabitchez Absolutely, I'm actually posting an EQ video tomorrow about fighting frequencies. I will take your suggestion on the Song structure!
not sure why but my waveforms are not coming out as fat as yours are on the resample channel, could it be because i am using my computer keyboard instead of my midi keyboard?
Hey mark... man I need your help I need to make ambient sounds for our band. To fill the sound. But im stuck. I now there is stuff out there that you can play behind any tempo if you are in the right key. But I want to build our own sounds. Please help. so in a nutshell ambient sounds that is key specific but not bpm....
Hey can you tell me why u deleted the midi notes and left the audio ones ? . And If I used this way in one of my pieces how would I use the audio one as a template ?
I remember when AL 8 was cutting-edge stuff. Now it looks rather cheap compared to AL 11. I suppose it's the high contrast? It really somehow just looks incredibly dated, even though it feels like just last year this is the program I was using.
that's a global setting in Preferences - i.e. to enable more than one track to be armed. I think it is anyway - it might be that you have to do shift or ctrl or alt too
Thanks for posting. 10 years on and still useful. I hope this message finds you happy and in good health.
Your voice is almost as soothing as the drone. This is like the meditation channel. Love it. Thanks for the wisdom.
haha I agree

Simple and powerful tips, thank you! A bit different in Ableton 10 but I figured it out.
Very nice! The settings are slightly different in Live 9 but this is awesome!! Cheers.
@konnichiwabitchez Absolutely, I'm actually posting an EQ video tomorrow about fighting frequencies. I will take your suggestion on the Song structure!
why did you stop? love your style
Hi Mark, I'm not sure how you're getting your initial sound out. I have the operator armed, but nothing happens.
Are you using a controller device?
Alyssa McIntyre Could be. You can also use your keyboard, or make a clip and draw in notes.
Love your videos Mark!Very helpful thank you!!!!

I don't really understand that either. Why he deleted the midi notes.
I remember when AL 8 was cutting-edge stuff. Now it looks rather cheap compared to AL 11. I suppose it's the high contrast? It really somehow just looks incredibly dated, even though it feels like just last year this is the program I was using.
this is great - learned some great tips!

Really helpful as a beginner. Thankyou!

It dident let me arm both Tracks at the same time (Midi and Audio track to record)
that's a global setting in Preferences - i.e. to enable more than one track to be armed. I think it is anyway - it might be that you have to do shift or ctrl or alt too
