Whitlock calls Drew Brees one of the GOATs and referred to Sean Payton as the best coach in football all year long and in 14 seasons together they have 6 seasons at .500 or under and only won 1 Super Bowl together.

I'm not a giants fan but I have to agree. 2 Superbowls with 2 MVPs should be enough. Maybe not 1st Ballot, but he will get in. His regular season stats arnt amazing but it's what he did in the post season. Flacco had an incredible run but no one thinks he should be in. Eli is on another level completely. People like Flacco shouldn't get in, people like Eli should imo. Eli beat some ridiculous tough teams during those 2 runs. Underdogs everygame. Yeah, he is a Manning, he was basically guaranteed a gold jacket the day he was drafted. He doesn't need all-pro or MVPs. All he had to do was play a long time and not get hurt which he did very well.
My favorite criticism of Eli is "That defense won those Superbowls" in 2007 the Giant's defense was ranked 17th in the league, and they were ranked 20th in 2011... granted the defense stepped up when it mattered, but Tuck didn't throw the game-winner to Plax, and Big Mike didn't zip that dime down the sideline to Mario... give the man the credit he deserves.

Eli will always hold a special place in my heart because he beat Brady and the Patriots twice and even messed up their perfect season but he is not a hall of famer. It actually took a bit more than 2 lucky throws. Being as his team came out of the wild card spot and/or without a bye each time they webt through the playoffs and knocked off the patriots. His post season win% as a result was also pretty darn good as a result of that.

Dan Fouts played in a completely different league than the league that Manning played in. He led an air raid offense in a league that for the most part was running the football, and if it wasn't 300 degrees below zero in Cincinnati against the Bengals in the AFC title game, he would have a Super Bowl appearance.

The argument that the defense “did it” is stupid
1) it’s a team sport in order for any team/qb to win they need the teammates to do their job that’s not a point against Eli you could say that about any QB
2) Tom Brady and the pats had EVERYTHING to help Tom Brady from insane defense to offensive weapons to head coach that’s why they were undefeated and nobody uses that help against Brady.
3) using his record against him in the regular season why does everyone forget none of those seasons where the giants a amazing team the best part was the defensive line but as a whole they were mostly wild card team unlike the packers which they beat in the post season or the patriots which they beat twice in the super bowl.
4) saying his passes were “lucky”? Did you see the placement of that manningham throw? That’s not luck in between two defenders perfectly on the sideline have him catch it in bounds and go out to stop the clock. The helmet catch? He threw it again in a spot where tyree was the only one who could catch it yeah it’s a tough catch but that’s why you trust your teammates to make plays that’s part of the sport.
5) NONE of the offensive players on those teams are like superstar players Ahmad Bradshaw brandon jacobs victor cruz plaxico Buress Mario manningham David tyree where are any of them after those runs? Off the face of the earth or out of the league none are all time great players or anything of any kind of it wasn’t for Eli and those runs nobody would even know their name and they still pulled off what they did TWICE.

Is Brees, Is Rogers HOF qbs. Both qbs with less SB wins than Eli. His body of work says average. He's the greatest average qb ever. He'll get in because people hang their hats on those SB wins, but most importantly his name made him a sure thing. His stats are impressive, but hallow. They're a byproduct of his most amazing accomplishment, the consecutive starts.
This panel has seemed to miss something that what it is to become a Hall of Famer and it comes down to one word...CONSISTENCY! To become a Hall of Famer, you have to become great at your craft year in and year out. Your greatness through your craft has to be CONSISTENT as well as using that consistency to elevate your teams for CONSISTENT success. Players like Tom Brady got better at his craft and became great at it CONSISTENTLY, which elevated his team’s success for 20 years. That is a measure of a Hall of Famer. You can’t compare difference eras and rule sets. Passing yards get more and more inflated as time goes on and the rules become more strict.
Eli is, has, and always will be an average starting QB. He was on two teams that had 2 great runs. But it was the defense of those teams that won those SBs. Eli did his job, but he didn’t carry the Giants. His regular season play was “meh” at best. He’ll get in based off his name and the fact he beat Brady, not because he was great.
Every game matters at the time it's happening. It's easy to look back and say "oh just the superbowl/playoffs matter" but when these guys are playing regular seasons they're playing to be in the most important games, which means that at that time those were the most important games.
Eli is a Nick Foles that had a chance to be a starter for many years. Which means that all Nick has to do is manage to stay healthy and be mediocre for the rest of his regular seasons to get in the HOF.
Everyone talking about eli not being a hall of Famer are people who can never do what he did on the field or even a hall of Famer. He has two rings and beat the best teams in the world the 18 - 0 patriots. There are better conversations to have.

Brett stop using stats to compare across generations. Passing is completely different today than yesteryear. Those guys you mentioned were all in the conversation for top 3 players at their position for multiple years. You need to compare Eli to his contemporaries and when you do, he was MAYBE top 5 for 2-3 out of 16 years. Brady, P. Manning, Brees, Rodgers, Favre and Wilson were all better and you'd have to make an argument over guys like Ben, Rivers, Romo and Luck
Kurt Warner was a completely different situation Kurt Warner won one Super Bowl had 2 League MVPs was an all pro when to 3 Super Bowl’s and won one of them. Kurt Warner in his short window had more than enough to be put into the Hall of Fame.
It took a while for Warner to make it. He was a borderline candidate because didn't play with sustained excellence over time. That Super Bowl run with the Cardinals pushed him over the top.

There are so many reasons why Eli SHOULD NOT be even considered for the HoF. He had an average career over many years. In fact, do you remember him being booed before 2007 and 2011? I do. He was benched twice when he was having years that were better than his average. Look at these numbers: 23, 18, 25, 12, 11, 17, 7, 14, 35, 15, 13, 22, 25, and 21. That is where Eli ranked among his peers in the passer rating for each year. One time in the top 10 in 16 years. Top 10 all time for TDs and yards? Through 2018, Roethlisberger and Rivers put up the same number with 800+ and 900+ (respectively) fewer attempts. Eli needed almost 2 more seasons worth attempts to keep up with good, not great, QBs. To advance on that, once factoring attempts into the number of yards, Roethlisberger and Rivers are still top 10 all time. Eli falls to 87th, tied with 14 others. And almost everyone of them played in a league that was not as pass friendly. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. How many times was Eli in consideration for league MVP (you know, for 16 games, not just 1)? Once and that was basically because he was going to the SB. There were other QBs that did much better than him that year. A SB win is a team win and the Giants were there both times because the defense caught fire. Not because of Eli. In fact, against the Cowboys in 2007, for about 22:15 of the game, Eli had a grand total of about 40 yards. And yet, Eli was hailed a hero. With 1:30 to go in SB XLII, Eli had a 72 passer rating against a guy that just averaged 117 for an entire season, and was somehow still in it. Was it because of Eli? No. When it's the Hall of Luck, Eli is a shoo-in.

Yup, the body of work speaks for itself. .500 record lifetime. Missed the playoffs way more often than not. Led the league in interceptions 3 times. Was never a top 5 quarterback in any year. Eli Manning was durable and above average--sometimes. He had two fluky playoff runs with great defenses behind him. He's not even close to the Hall of Fame, and probably not among the top 50 quarterbacks ever.
Eli didn't have a great defense in 2011. And he had no running game. Eli took that team on his back and his numbers in those "fluky" playoff runs were even better than Peyton's Super Bowl runs. In fact, Eli still holds the record for most passing yards in a single postseason.

Strahan after the game said he was surprised Brady kept getting up. When the defense holds an opponent to 14 pts and the offense only scores 17 the defense gets the credit for the W. The only reason a defensive lineman didn't win the MVP was because they all contributed fairly equally. You've got to have a Von Miller type performance to win SB MVP as a defender.
