- Most people panic buy toilet rolls. It seems I panic buy Ferraris. Now, mid pandemic crisis, it would be a terrible time to buy an old, overvalued Ferrari 308, unseen at an online auction??

Great video!!! Jajajaja was cracking up with your nervousness. Thanks for the content, specially in these times.... hope to see it in a video as soon as the lockdown ends... and it runs....
Yes. Optimistic of you to assume it will run!! I hope you’re right! Thanks for watching!!
Your reaction was the same as when I bought my TVR, elation and terror at the same time. Great. Well done.
Thanks Mike.. it’s being delivered Wednesday so we will see then!
Ah. That’s the difference. I had to drive mine 90 miles home on the day, not knowing anything about the car. Can’t wait for the next vid. We must be about the same age, as the 308 was my poster car of that time. Brilliant.
Great fun watching your reaction. Brought a smile to my face in these crazy times
When it logged you out! Epic, can’t wait to see it on the channel. 👍🏼
Ha!! It almost saved me from buying it
Welcome to the 308 world. Most beautiful car ever made.
Brilliant !! Really cheered me up watching this love your reaction.
Great to hear you enjoyed it Phil, thanks for watching!!
The most tense yet exciting bit of RUclips videoing I’ve seen in a long time. Was smiling throughout - f*ck me , you just bought a Ferrari online!
You’re too kind!! Thank you and glad you enjoyed it!! Also made a follow up video with more info on the car... and hope to get hold of it soon!
Coming back to watch this series from the beginning. Great story... looking forward to more. Subscribed. Cheers!
That’s great to hear thanks for subbing !!
Haha! Brilliant mate! Looking forward to the follow up vids on this bad boy.
Ha!! The moron really outdid himself this time. Woke up in a panic at 4am and researched it but apparently there is no way for me to back out of paying for it now.
Brilliant!!!! Well Done :) So funny to see the agony and the ecstasy that you go through on an online bid!! Esp the having to log back in/timing out!!!
Thank you! I think if i’d not won that agony would have soon turned into relief. Whereas now my ecstasy has morphed and I’m terrified.
@@Number27 The true definition of terror is if your other half does not know! It can be such a rollercoaster! You've got to believe to some degree that some things are meant to be. Agree higher mileage cars that have been used just seem like a better bet. Better VFM and sometimes better condition than a lower mileage car. We are so milage obsessed in the UK
Best news I've seen all month. Brilliant optimism. I can hear the Magnum soundtrack and feel the trade winds. You've go to get a Higgins grass berm burnout shot!
Ha, that’s a great idea... do need to do that!!
Brilliant Video.... it almost seemed like I was in the race too! Really looking forward to seeing the following videos. Cheers my friend, keep safe.👍🏁
Thank you Mike and for sticking with my videos!
Congrats on your purchase. Have been following that auction, so far I don't think there's been much in the way of bargains, but thanks for posting your buy up and I'm sure we'll all look forward to seeing how you get on. :-)
Yes. I think I’m looking forward to it, though I balance I might not be!!
Congrats mate! You bought one of the most beautiful Ferraris ever made at the price of a VW Golf. Thomas Magnum will surely appreciate that.
Magnum PJ... ;)
Congrats pal, that responce was priceless! Looking forward to some videos on it
Thank you buddy.. as soon as the lock down is over..
Congrats mate, cant wait for the videos with the 308 ! I always had a nostalgic love for that model, cause I remember it from Magnum PI, but don't even dare to drive it without rocking a proper stash :P
I’ll start growing it as we speak
I have to say that was great fun to watch! Well done!
Thanks!!!
ha ha! Awesome and congrats Jack! :-) Looking forward to seeing the videos of when you get to drive it!
Than you Jason, if indeed it drives that is!!
Great car, congratulations. I owned one of these for a few years, they are really usable cars, well made and not difficult to maintain - I uploaded a short video on setting valve clearances on mine if you ever need to do it. I eventually sold mine when the value prevented me from enjoying it, so it's great to see they are a bit more accessible again. Great channel by the way. I must say our tastes and experiences coincide significantly - Italian heritage, lots of shared car ownership and even an introduction to them via 80's RC cars, I'll keep watching 👍
Fab, great to hear James. Will look up your video on the valve clearances. Is it pretty straightforward?
@@Number27 yes, the front bank is trickier due to access, but with the right tool - I used the Hills Engineering one - it's not too bad. My video on the other hand....
Brilliant, logged out just when you least wanted to be, love it! Congratulations 🥳
Well done, one of my all time fave cars. I guess you should have seen Ian Barkaways 308 . It looked a great car, but after he stripped it down I would be so careful as his car was as rotten as anything,
Nice, I had a similar experience at Sandown when i went to buy an E Type and came back with a Ferrari !!
Great site and love the country lanes you use for the test drives, more of these please 👍🏼
Thanks Anthony, appreciate the support!!
It's so funny, I had a look at it too. No chance at the moment to spend that money for s.th. crazy as a Ferrari but so cool to see you bidding for it - and then winning! I am from Germany, living in the UK and always looking for LHD cars as I'm used to it and they are bargains in the UK. Congrats! Can't wait to see your next video with this car. Is amazing to follow the story of this car through your channel! Good buy, cant' believe you go wrong with it...
Fingers crossed and so funny you also looked at this one!
PIcked up on PH, and subscribed. I like the sound of this! And by 'sound', I of course mean stupidity! Looking forward to more.
Awesome!! Really glad some of the PH guys are enjoying this too. Thanks for watching Richard!!
A brave man in a 'Brave New World'. I love the way you went from elation to despair in a split second. Good luck with it.
Thank you. Will need that luck..
Congrats. A proper 80s dream car. Can't wait to see you enjoy it.
Thank you... trying to work out how I can get hold of it!
Great content 👍👍 Really interested in this as I am thinking of taking the plunge with an entry level 308 or Series 3 Turbo Esprit. Will be great to see how you get in with the 308 and comparison with your Esprit. Thanks for sharing😎😎 Regards. Dave
Thanks buddy, hope I like it as much as I did the Esprit. Are you looking at a particular car?
Number 27 Hi there, I haven't narrowed down to particular cars however I've scanned the market and had a sniff of an ex USA GTSi at around the 30k mark. Needed UK registration and came with the big bumpers etc. Esprits seem to carry quire ambitious asking prices although not many seem to be selling. Need to do a bit more research / thinking and stumble across the right car. Your purchase seems spot on and really looking forward to seeing what you think etc 👍👍
Glad you WON. That's what pulled me to your channel in the first place. A Ferrari!
Blimey! I got excited for you! I'm off to put the kettle on lol
Hilarious..... especially getting logged out!
Appreciate you eating Greg!! You must be my only fan from PGT
When I say ‘fan’ I mean that in a lighthearted way
Number 27 I’m your number 1 fan.... in a Stephen king / Misery way!
@@gregchristofi1318 Ha!!!
That reaction says it all!
Doesn't show how terrified I am right now though..
Very good enjoyed this very much congratulations and good luck ;)
Thank you!! Made a follow up video with more info.. and hope to also have car soon!
You'd easily pay as much for a 993 or an NSX and this'll have way more soul
That was a great introduction! Congratulations on the 308 sir! 🥳
Thank you!! It’s been quite a journey so far.. am already at video 14.. one per week!
Excellent video. Congratulations- hope it’s a good one!
Thanks buddy!!
Haha well done, I used to love these cars, I remember making an airfix kit I had when i was a kid.
Thank you buddy.. it’s no lotus though. I bet it won’t be as cheap and trouble free as my Lotus Esprit was ..
Fair Play you are a brave man.........good luck hope the 3/5 engine and box are ok........ looking forward to delivery day and the first drive.......
Brave or stupid.. probably mostly the latter! Thanks for watching 🙏
Congrats, great choice!!
What people have to remember on italian cars in general, high milage is no problem as the tech doesn’t generally wear, in reality it’s prob just GOOD because it means it works!
Also, K-jetronic and Motronic is eachothers opposite. K-jetronic is half-mechanical, very old and Motronic is still pretty rocket science fully integrated/electronic. The L-series Jetronics that came inbetween were well.. in between! :)
Thanks for clarifying on the injection!! Wish me luck!
@@Number27 Good luck! I suspect this will be a sweet ownership!
The best RUclips ending ever 😂
Glad you approve!!!
Great videos! Fun to watch. One suggestion for you, in your playlist you should have dates, so that we know the sequence properly of the progress on these cars. Everything you have there does not have a date! Everything is labeled number 27! Best wishes to you, and thanks.
Hey thanks Jay. They were numbered previously. May do so again!
Bit also on the playlist they are in the correct order
OMG Jack! You lucky Bas***d!!! haha. Im so happy for you if you manage to get it and can't wait to see the vids
Unlucky may turn out to be the case depending on the cars consition.. but I see where you’re coming from!
@@Number27 But its a Ferrari, who cares...That badge :)
I used to have a poster of the 288 GTO when I was a kid. They share the same body and this is at least attainable. Hoping you get her all sorted and on the road.
Ha!! Thanks for watching the first instalment. If you’re interested I’d advise you to watch the following ones.. it’s been quite a journey to the point I’m at today and it’s still not fixed..
well done im 62 now and can always remember the 308 back in the 70s a local garage owner had one what a car you only have one life live the dream
Congrats! Question, why does it only have one exhaust pipe? They usually have 4.
It’s an early car. Quite rare but standard!
Well done 👍🏼 mate
Did the same thing with a low mile st220 mondeo... bought unseen
... turned out awesome
Lovely Jubbly, think of the future and the fun you'll have.
And the future tears and curses..
This is awesome! Congrats!
Thank you! Let’s see how it pans out. Hopefully we’ll!
Only just found this series, I bought a 928 sight unseen at the same time, glad it wasn't just me lol. (The 928 was the first choice for Magnum PI but they couldn't get the overhead shots without a convertible)
I've bought a few vehicles sight unseen on a eBay auction, one being a VW type 2 camper, I know my heart was pounding out of my chest each time.
I don’t think I’ll do it again! I’ve got the car now. I may have got away with it. Update video out on Friday!
Brilliant you gotta keep us updated and get on Amazon and buy a black bushy moustache lol
It is already on order...
Congratulations! I suggest you let that mustache of yours grow wild until collection day😂
I'm on it!!!
Just decided to randomly watch this one again Jack, your comment at 10:43 is absolute gold 😂 Strange times they were👍
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Congrats!
"I've been looking for something a bit sensible, and I've in theory bought a 205 GTI" - nothing says sensible like a 30+ year old French supermini :)
Yes, plus 205 goes with 308 so I had to buy the Ferrari as a reliable back up for my 30 year old French super mini
That was fun...you brave man thanks for sharing
Brave in this case is interchangeable with idiot ;)
Congratulation 👍 now you have to buy a moustache 🤣😊 (but online again ) 😊
I might try and grow one!
Number 27 😊 yes this is the idea but start right now so when the car arrives and for the new video upload you will looks exactly like Tom 👍
Very entertaining video - good luck with it.....
Once I get hold of it and the state of it becomes apparent it will be even more entertaining! Thanks for watching!
Great video. Welcome to Ferrari ownership. You'll love it. I see it was recently serviced at QV in Windsor I don't know where you are based but I would strongly recommend you get them to look after your car. They have looked after my 308GT4 for years. Mick, Phil, Mark and Tom probably know more about carburetted Ferraris than anyone in the UK. They are straightforward and honest. I have no affiliation other than being a very satisfied customer.
I’m in oxford.. so I’ll need to see what there is local to me but have had great feedback about QV as well!
@@Number27 Bob Houghton in Northleach is also very good and another old school company. You need to think about how you are going to get home if you need to leave the car. I am sure Bob Houghton's have some system in place. QV would take you to Windsor you can get a train via Slough to Oxford. I live in Twyford only 11 miles from QV so they are a natural for me, and I have used that train route on many occasions.
Ha! Absolute legend :) Can't wait to see more vids on this 308!
Coming soon!
Brilliant - great to watch someone using their own money to play with and not resorting to the Mike Brewer quote of "it's a car I always wanted"!
Cheers Ian and hope you’re having a good holiday!
Thanks for the reply - I'll never be in your position to go that large - but I do have a cunning plan for a Maserati Ghibli diesel when they hit £10k - I've seen then sub £15k so far....be nice to have one last hurrah when I finally get free of subsidising the kids Uni and College costs - I'm assuming it will stop at some point!
Nearly a year later and it's still a shedload of problems
What? The Influenzo was perfect. Just had to replace a couple of fuses.. 😄😄😄
Mate don’t panic. I bought a 308 GTB from the hairpin company with 69 k . It’s first owner was Peter Frampton . It was a 1980 Webber car. They are the best to own. The webbers are delicious, my mechanic was Neil lucas in camberley. The leather and toggle switches are delicious. Ice cold . Call Neil xx ENJOY
Thank you Kenneth, that’s reassuring to hear!
F*cking hell Jack, what happened to that yellow Beautiful 930??? 😂
You need to now grow mustaches #magnum
Congrats and greetings from 🇫🇮👍
What happened to the yellow Porsche, is it still in the running?
Not any more. I’ve gone for something much more reliable and sensible as you can see.
Subscribed!!
👍
😂😂
Enjoyed watching that
Hope it’s a good un 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you buddy 🙏
You look so happy! Congrats for that deal! You can cut the carpet in moustache shape, use a rattle can to spray it black (please indoors) and somehow attach the moustache. Very good deal, mate
Thank you on the moustache tip! I was also very happy, but only very briefly. I woke up at 4am in panic once I realised what I’ve done! 🤦🏻. I truly hope it does not turn out to be a total shitter
@@Number27 hi mate! You just need to purchase more cars and you will get used to that feeling. I own seven youngtimers and I experienced the same with waking up in the middle of the night. But the more you buy, the less stress you are going to experience. Looking already for your next video.
All the best to you! It’s a great feeling winning something that you probably shouldn’t 😀.
Yes, for a split second...thanks for watching!
Nice one. Did a similar thing 20 years ago and bought a "cheap" mondial qv. Got laughed at and warned off it but I always wanted one so didn't care. Best if all, if you are half handy with spanners and have access to some workshop space, diy maintenance is really straight forward. The lo-tech is simple and basic and for many parts there are non genuine subs of better quality if you don't mind the sharp intake of breath from purists. I used the labout money saved this way to improve my car and buy genuine parts when there was no option. Was a joy to drive and a laugh to own even with the inevitable moments of horror! Enjoy.
Thank you buddy, appreciate the advice! Still have your Mondial??
@@Number27You are welcome. There are so many nay sayers and armchair opinions on these older cars but few who have owned and driven. The super rich don't buy them and most budget buyers are nit prepared for the running costs and effort. I treated it like any other classic car that is not a pristine garage queen. Drove it, repaired it, drove it, serviced it and so on. Sadly had to sell it following the 2008 crash. ☹️
That was my favourite car as a kid. I remember looking at one for sale in about 1983 and it was (I think) £21,000.
Yes they were close to that only a few years ago!
Congrats dude!!!!
thank you!
You should check the Ferrari Forums, there are crossover parts from other vehicles that are used on a 308. The parts will be 25% of the cost.
Yes am doing that for anything I need! Thanks
Anyone else watching this from the start after seeing a later episode and already aware of what happens later on?
Ha!! Thanks for going all the way back to that first episode!!
“F##k me I’ve bought a Ferrari”... brilliant.. that’s exactly what I said when I got mine 😂😂
Well done... I loved mine which I had 25 years ago... and it cost £25500 back then. Thanks a good price 👍🏻
Thanks buddy!
Oh boy the highs n lows n highs of EBay lol 😂
After watching your videos on this venture. I hope you don't mind me saying that I don't think this was such a great bargain. You could have got a problem-free RHD one for around 35k. But thanks for sharing as I have learnt so much from your videos.
Glad you enjoyed them.. I don’t mind at all ... but would respectfully disagree. I’ve only seen one other 308 in this price range in the UK, it was at £36k but a complete shed and converted from left to right hand drive (badly). The owner has now spent £5k on it and is asking £40k. If you find any 308s at or under £40k I think you’ll find when you actually go and see them that they are not problem free at all.. thanks for watching!!
P.S - I never said it was great bargain.. but at £34k I think I did ok. Especially as I was able to fix it myself. Otherwise I think it would have cost me another £10k+ in labour to get everything I’ve done sorted out.
@@Number27 I take back what i said. You did get a good deal looking at autotrader, but after viewing your yellow 964 Porsche video, my humble opinion is the Porsche would have been a better buy.
I myself in the process of buying a 1980 Carrera SC targa so 🤞
Well done I did the same thing when I bought my 456gt last year good luck
Wow, I LOVE a 456. Weird some people like me think they are one of the prettiest Ferraris ever while others hate them!
Number 27
Yes one of the best looking gts cars from the 90s
Just had a nice drive with her😉
Left hand drive will appeal to buyers abroad 👍
When I bought my Intergale in 03 you could pick up mint RHD 308/328s for 25k - oh how I wished I'd pushed myself to afford one
Haha! Just looking at Social Blade and this video is where your channel blows up and starts to perform!! The Ferrari has paid for itself no matter what the issues it has thrown at you.
Yes.. though the problem is following it up!
Crackin, haha i thought it was just me that laughs when i win a bid on a car or M,bike, well done, had a play in a 308 gts last yr losts of fun nailed it turned quite a few heads..
Good to know and thanks for watching!
GTS..."Not quite as nice"...Are you mad!!
Congratulations matey!! 💪 👍 🇮🇹 🇬🇧
Thank you sir.. I think you mean commiserations?
@@Number27 we will see 🙈 but I feel positive it's going to be all good 👍 🇮🇹 🇬🇧 I used to watch Magnum Pi just for the ferrari, if I was in the position it would have been rude not to buy your 308.
Well done! Big smile :-)
Thank you!!
Wow you have a serious pair of balls.. especially considering the engine and box have a 40% chance of needing a rebuild. 😕😕
It’s not balls or bravery. I’m just an idiot!’
Theres a RHD, coupe with 65K miles on Autotrader just now for £38k
Yes but it’s a conversion from LHD... personally I’d not touch a car that’s been converted.
@@Number27 Are all the RHDs conversions?
"I have a really bad feeling about this"....
You’re not the only one 🤦🏻
Congrats on the Ferrari! That was exciting to watch.
Thank you.. I was excited, and then rapidly quite terrified. 😄
Loved this. Fortune favours the brave!
Thank you and I desperately hope you’re right!! Have car now and update video out on Friday!!
Congrats!!!
Many thanks!
love the way people look at the good points and wash over the bad~~~I should know I'm an expert at it....
Congratulations 😎👍
You forgot about the 308 GT4 and although it started out as a Dino rather than a Ferrari and being a totally different design, it still was called a 308 and if you talk about "all" 308s, thus it should have been mentioned as well.
Surely extra food, some CCTV and razor wire would have been a more useful purchase?
Nice purchase!
Thank you!!
Ha! How amusing. Someone just sent me this video.
Sorry, I was the 'annoying' bidder at 7:45... I'd been watching this one for a while. I hope it's as nice as it looks.
There was another bidder I found out about later.. Paul, is that you? Or this yet another evil rival bidder?
