    So I have this installed and I just want to mention you should definitely put some blue thread locker on those two hex bolts that hold the handle on. I had a problem where no matter how tight I got those bolts they would keep backing out from the vibration and once I put the thread locker on problem solved.

    I just installed this in an o8 GT. Here is the differences in the video install. First the old stock shifter comes out from the top. The new Hurst Comp Plus does not. But was able to get it up through the bottom. (One may be best to have rear wheels off the ground as the drive shaft may have to be roated to find the most clearence to get the new shifter up and in. Next, my factory shifter did not have two bushing inserts for the front gromet, only 1@at twice the length of these in the video (with only one side having the lip on it). It is not a mistake by the factory, as my bushing insert goes the whole length through, (so one could not get another bushing in from the other side anyhow, nor simease it in any possible way due to the I.D. sizes of bushing and gromet and the O.D. size of the shift rod shaft. ). Next, neither the instructions from Hurst nor this video told you to insert the shift stops in before you put the shifter in. If you do not put them in before hand, you will be taking your shifter back out and have to reinstall. Maybe their car is different year, but only way on an 08 would be to cut the floor up,(screws hit the floor metalpreventing insertion) Next, not bad enough they are blocked from insertion by the floor metal, the floor metal also blocks an allen wrench from being inserted in the front shift stop screw. I could not believe this. (and no the car was not wrecked and I only have 7,500 miles on it. It has been stored for nine of its 10 years age). So I had to grind down a regular allen wrence to , barely get it into the shift stop screw. (unbelievable) Next I cannot believe Hurst did not use fine thread on these shift stops. (for crying out loud this wart of the design is in the precision category, not plug and play. It is coarse thread with a lot of play/slack/wobble in the fit of the nut screw and mounting plate. When you adjust it for a few thousnads of stop gap by the time all contact points of a coarse thread system tighters up (with care and holding it centered and stiff with proper tools etc). It could be tens of thousands off from where it is suppose to be.) I mean talk about a cheap S----y Job. I nor anybody I know will ever buy Hurst again. Now seriously, For the money they charge, they cannot use a proper adjustment screw, unbelievable.. This whole upgrade is less than a third grade schooler taking a new age modern day 3rd grade tech ed class. This shifter is just a ball and socket system. I mean not even close to the original engineering of the hurst shifters of old. The transmissin internal components still perform all the main shifting/limiting functions. (this shifter does no better than the stock shifter (the ball unit may be a tad higher therefore making the botton shift linkage move a few thousands further, but that is it. Hell you even have to use the factory shift gromets. This is like a third grader figuring out how to refine the workings of a seasaw at the playground. Also I do not believe these shift stops, do anything, except help a little in a catastrophic failure, after a catestrophic failure occured, in which case too late!!!!WHAT HURST NEEDS TO REALIZE is the following. THeir reputation/dependability/name was founded on todays older mechanics. And that's who is putting these shifters in fo the now younger generation's vehicles, because only a bare minimum of them are mech inclined. THATS a FACT. So what is going to be recommended is, do not waste precious money on Hurst. It is a fake, facade, piece of junk that is recognized as such immediately from a real mechanic. Take one person I know, He will stop 50 purchases at car shows this summer. If you are interested, mine will be on craigslist shortly. .

    Shifter does work great just get ready to install new bushings every year or so because they crack and fall apart . My car is only driven a thousand miles a year my second set rear bushing deteriorated in about nine months and it was the extreme duty set . Sent email to Hurst last year with no response . Changing brands upon next failure because front bushing failure leaves you stranded .

    Nice video and instructions. I've been kicking the can around trying to decide to replace my 2007 GT's old shifter. This Hurst shifter looks pretty strong and durable.

    Sweet, you forgot the part where you have to thread in the shifter stops before you get the shifter in the car. Had to take it back out and do it all over again. Fun fun!!

    Hello! I was wondering if you could throw me some information? I have a 06 mustang GT and I have a aftermarket short shifter, I am having issues with... when in any given gear, I can move the shifter from left to right as if it were in neutral?? What could cause that?? Everything goes into gear just fine... I'm just having that issue. Thanks in advanced!

    wth ford? why would you make the shifter so damn complicated to put in?!?! My 01 cobra is 4 bolts for the cover and 4 bolts for the shifter, swap out the old for the new and tighten the 8 bolts back down. takes about 7-10 minutes.

    • @AutoYoung
      @AutoYoung 9 лет назад +1

      That's not Ford that's Tremecs transmission design. And I mean the car design is COMPLETELY different so you shouldn't expect the same. This is actually easy. Compare this to a Coyote install. At least with the MT-82 you have several different choices of shifters depending on work you want to do.

    • @latemodelrestoration
      @latemodelrestoration  3 года назад

      This shifter only works on the TR3650 Transmission found on the 2005-10 Mustang GTs. You will need a V6 specific shifter as the 05-09 Mustangs featured a T5 transmission.
