As some of you may know, we developed a slight steering wobbled on our Jeep JL Wrangler and one that was especially noticeable when it was cold out. Mind you, this was far from being the dreaded "death wobble" but it was still something we wanted to address and for the most part, was able to mitigate it by installing a new front track bar. However, as we were going through all the possible problem spots to track down this wobble, we found that the tie-rod end on our drag link, right where it connects to the pitman arm, was in fact completely worn out. Needless to say, this was something we've been wanting to address for a while now and after talking to our good friends over at Synergy Manufacturing, they were kind enough to send us their heavy duty tie-rod, drag link and steering stabilizer relocation kit. In this episode of the JL JOURNAL, you'll get to see just how easy it is to install all three.
And, for those of you who are wondering, YES, this steering system tightened up things nicely. Also, because ALL moving parts wear out, I'm happy to note that replacement tie-rod ends only cost about $30. A HUGE SAVINGS over competitors who charge upwards of $200 per tie-rod end. - Авто/Мото
Your 1 trip to Home Depot, and mentioning of all the tools you're using, just saved everyone else at least 4 trips.
LOL
Says me 😂
Just a tip. I recently, based on this video, purchased and installed a Synergy steering relocation kit just like you have. My tip is that if you are still running the factory tie rod you will need to mount the steering stabilizer the opposite way that you did in this video. If you do it the way you have it, with the can side mounted on the track bar stud, the stabilizer body will contact the tie rod when turned to passenger. Synergy ‘s latest instructions on the website reads that the rod side mounts to the track bar stud if you have a factory tie rod. Just a heads up to those who love your vids like me.
What bumper is that?
Man it's great to see a video where somebody actually pulls out a torque wrench working on suspension components. I was beginning to think people stopped making them.
Your videos just get better and better. I appreciate how thorough and detailed you are while taking us step by step throughout the install. Really helps someone like me who has little mechanical knowledge. I’m doing all my mods myself so i can start to understand how my Jeep works. From watching some of your other videos I figure it would be wise to know as much as i can in case something happens while im wheeling in a remote place. Keep up the great work!!
Well, helping to get guys like you to help yourself is really the only reason why we make videos like this.
I have an 11 and 12 JKs and now a 19 JL. I have never done the work on my Jeeps until I started watching your Vids. Thanks for the content and thanks for sharing.
That is awesome! So glad that we could help you in this way :)
Dear @@wayalife I am on the verge of upgrading my steering system on my Jeep JK. I leave in UAE and do a lot of dune bashing (desert driving) almost every weekend and I want to know how does Synergy jk steering system (the one used in the video) compare with Rock Jock JK 9703 Modular Extreme Duty steering system. Is it worth paying double the price for the Rock Jock.
Blown away on the pure ness of this install video
above and beyond with camera footage and pointing out details was just natural
I felt nothing was left out or unanswered ... you were showing a little bit of trouble shooting, adjustments and real world issues on camera and made it that much better ...
thanks for taking the time to show quality work/ videos like this, it really helps people like me get out and do more ! sick video dude !🤘
frank cedeno we’re truly flattered you would say as much. Thank you.
❤
Crow's foot wrench allows you to use a torque wrench in confined space between pittman arm & frame. Be sure to allow for the extra length generated by the crow's foot in your torque setting:
Ns = new setting
Os = old setting
Tw = torque wrench length
Cf = crow's foot offset from Tw.
Ns=Os(Tw/(Tw+Cf))
I don’t own a Jeep but not only am I impressed with this video I’m impressed with your garage. Like Jesus. I’d love to have a garage like that.
LOL - glad you enjoyed the video just the same.
The SOUND is INSANE on this unboxing. So Fresh.
Best install video ever. I can appreciate your thorough attention to details. Thank you
Chuck
We're flattered you would say as much :)
Every time Eddie and Cindy post a video my list of Jeep "Needs" gets larger. 10/10, would watch again! Thanks Wayalife!
LOL - sorry about that and thank you :)
i really like your shows .iam retired (62) now just bought a 14 rubicon learning a lot from u thanks a lot
Awesome! So glad to hear it :)
Thank you for making this video Eddie, super informative, I watch it a couple times and did this upgrade today with both the tie rod and draglink. I appreciate your willingness to make them!
Awesome! So glad that our video was helpful to you 👍
Great video and congrats on hitting 100,000 followers!
Every time I watch your videos, it makes me want to go into the garage and do something to my Jeep... You keep making them and I'll keep watching them. I live in Maine by way of New Orleans. I hope to one day make it out to Moab and hopefully my wife and I can meet you and Cindy on the trails. Thanks for another great video...
LOL - glad to hear our videos inspire you to work on your Jeep and yes, it'd be great to meet you and your wife some day :)
As usual, awesome video guys and congrats on the 100k subs
You do the best install videos out there‼️ I very much appreciate every one. And your camera person who I think is your wife... fantastic job‼️ 👍 Thank you, Ron1, Littlewierdjeep
Thank you, we really do appreciate you saying as much.
your videos are by far the best out there. watching these has really helped me build some confidence that i can do some of these things myself. Really enjoy watching and learning from such a personable pro.
Thank you again...i’m sure it’s helping Synergy a bit too.. Just ordered some of their stuff after watching this.
Truly flattered to hear you say as much and we're so glad that we could be of help to you :)
@@wayalifejust curious what the outcome of this install was? Seems like on JLU’S with aluminum steering box the stock drag link where’s out faster when 35 tires and lift kit is put on. My synergy sector shaft brace took care of 80% of my steering issues. I’m very curious if the drag link upgrade is actually worth it.
Great clip and very informative. One recommendation I have is you should mark all the new nuts with a paint line so that if anything ever gets play or moves around and gets loose you can quickly just take a quick look the castle nut or fastener to see if they have moved. As always we enjoy the clips keep it up.
I love the editing the light commentary and full light super videos man i must say im impressed!
Thank you, we're happy to hear you enjoy our videos :)
Good enough to be a TV show. Thanks for sharing.
Flattered you'd say as much. Thanks!
I recently purchased my 15 year old son a 2016 JK. We both are learning so much from your videos. You are appreciated Sir. Thanks
Congratulations to you and glad to hear it :)
The unboxinng part is insuperable. Great video and learning again. Thanks.
Nacho Valenti LOL - glad you enjoyed it 😎
Great vid, so picking up this same setup!!
About to buy my first Jeep and looking into upgrades. Your videos make it look too easy. Thank you so much for doing what you do!
Awesome! So glad that we could be of help to you :)
Another awesome install my brother, keep them coming, you’re a great teacher 👍
You are too kind. Glad to hear you found the video to be informative.
I always look forward to your SEMA coverage Eddie. Thanks for an informative day 1. Love your Gladiator, I bought a 2022 JT Rubicon just recently. There is so much available for this vehicle. I cant wait to start with the upgrades.
Glad you like them and have fun building up your Jeep.
Love these videos, this channel will be my bible when I start nodding my Rubicon.
Awesome - glad to know that our videos have been and will be helpful to you :)
@@wayalife they are all great
Great video Wayalife!!! Couldn't have done it better ourselves!!!
Dave Schlossberg glad to hear it. You guys make an awesome steering system 👍🏻
THANKS@@wayalife !!!!
Great install video! I have the drag link but waiting on the rest before I install it all.
the opening of the cartons scenes, are the best editing scenes on you tube.......they crack me up ....and the wind noise of the box spinning on the table....lol.....
signals34 LOL - so glad you have fun watching them 😁
I'm so glad I found this video. I'm about to relocate my steering stabilizer, using the Synergy kit. I honestly would have missed the 1/2" hole requirement, and I probably would have locktit'd the small bolt. Man, so thankful!
Glad we could share this with you.
How the heck do you make 15 seconds of opening a box so fun to watch?! Great video as usual, very informative, great footage and editing...I'd give every video you make two thumbs up if I could. Thanks for posting.
LOL - we're so glad to hear you enjoy the fun little things we do :)
the sweet sound effects lol
Great job guys!
You and Cindy make great content. I don't even own a JL, nor am I in the market for steering components, but I watched the entire video. Well done man.
Craig Willcutt thank you, we really do appreciate it 😊
Same! Don’t own a JL, not in the market for a JL or for steering components. But I still watched the entire video. I figure it’s good to have the knowledge.
Same here too, but I enjoy the content, and am always wondering if I can do all your installs on my '09 Colorado 🤠
I am a Tundra owner. Never owned a Jeep. Closes I came was my '75 FJ40. I love and look forward to your videos. Glad you have a little fun making ng them. 👍👍
You make thing look so easy, simply great!
LOL - glad to hear you think so. I'm sure you could do it too :)
LOOOVE your videos. Was slightly left with out a happy ending not having there been some footage of a test drive after the install. Great video though.
Sorry about that. We pretty much finished up and had to leave.
I was able to get a torque wrench on my drag link with a shallow socket. Nice vid. It cracked me up that you included the trip to Home Depot. I had to go harbor freight and auto zone to find a 21mm shallow socket, when I was installing my teraflex kit. I’m always missing something, no matter how big my tool collection grows.
Wish I would’ve seen this earlier. I took out my steering stabilizer on a rock and now I want to get my new one out of the way. Great video as always!
Glad we could share this with you :)
I watched this whole video.. Great job Sir..
LOL - glad you enjoyed it :)
Been learning more about working on my own Jeep for the past few months and this video is a huge help! I’m installing the drag link, tie rod, sway bar and a new fox ts and the sector shaft reinforcement bracket on my Jeep. Slow and steady so far, just need to find a stupid pickle fork lol
Awesome, so glad to hear we've been able to help you out. :)
Outstanding job thanks have a great time
You know Me.... Can’t wait to watch the “Box Opening!” Cindy’s the Best! 😃
LOL - too funny. Glad to hear you enjoy watching the silly things we do with our videos :)
Great video! Very thorough and great angles.
Thank you, we're so glad you enjoyed it :)
Nice work and kickass garage!
Thank you :)
Love the video editing! Great job!
Thanks! Glad you liked it!!
Another Awesome Production! Thank you!!!
Bobby so glad to hear you enjoyed it
There's nothing like a jeep period.
I love your videos , very simple and very knowledgeable.
Glad you like them!
Best sound editing ever!!!!
Why thank you :)
Your dog is the coolest!🐶
Tessa is the best :)
Just did mine every part under the jk is new Grease a bowl moog from ball joints to tie rod and ends And drag link everything except the track bar that I went with a giant raptor, and a skyjacker black max duel setup , good luck with your build
That was an incredible install video. You made it looks so easy, even with the one trip to Home Depot . If it was my install, I would probably have to go back to HD 2 or 3 times. LOL
Glad you liked it! :)
You are a pro with all your tools, I would trust my Jeep Wrangler JL to you for some upgrades 👍🇳🇱❤️🇺🇸✌️💪
LOL - you're too kind :)
Eddie - "Need to go to Home Depot and pick up a 22mm box end wrench" Arrives at Home Depot and grabs a cart! Sound thinking! Love it.
LOL
I love the how to basic style of unpackaging things just leaving in the loud banging parts of unpacking lol
LOL - glad you enjoy it :)
The unboxing is awesome!
LOL - thank you. We're glad to know that you enjoy the fun we have making our videos :)
Love the sound effects
Great install instructions!
Thank you and glad to hear it :)
Excellent video! Great summary of how to do this and general guidance on steering setups. Where's the "How to set Toe" video link although that is referenced at the 28:05 mark?
Thank you for this video. It helped me out tremendously!
Glad it helped!
Man u make the cleanest video. Nice!
Why thank you :)
#1 fan all the way love the great videos
danielon Ortiz awesome, thank you 😊
Another very detailed install as usual.
Great job. OlllllllO
Jeff Riley thank you. We’re glad that you enjoyed it 😎
I scrolled down to see if anyone had mentioned it, looks like no one has. A 7/8 wrench SAE wrench will work quite well when in need of a 22mm. Ditto for 7/16 - 11mm, 3/4 - 19mm etc...
Kudos on your content - you need to take more video of Cindy driving though ;)
I'm currently enjoying my very new to me '99 XJ, already planning mods to make it more of a trail monster. I inherited it with 30s, 4.10s and ARBs front and rear. Looking to move to 33s and all that entails (cutting/flares/gearing). Doubt I'll ever see you on serious trails, but who knows.
Great instructive video!
Thanks! Hope it helps you out :)
Waiting to get my 2015 Challenger HellCat back from body shop, little dings to fix before i sell it in couple weeks for a new 2018 or 2019 JL Rubicon Unlimited here in Los Angeles. I've Been watching for couple months now, every video. I appreciate the hard work and Love the Video's < 3
Hey I'm deciding to get a new challenger I heard of electronic failure issue is it true did you had any
@@AlejandroP1980s I DID, but it was with the 8.4 UConnect. Screen was turning black, took it in 3 times, finally they fixed it and Dodge said it was a software update lol As far as everything else, it's a great Muscle Car.
Great video thank you!
awesome video the best i have watched please do more
Thank you. We hope to do many more :)
Awesome video, many thanks!
Glad to hear you enjoyed it :)
After death wobble my Saginaw box was beat to f. I bent my stock tie rod on really grippy concrete wj with ram axles. So did the tie rod flip. Been through a 44a and 35 in the rear. They make a c shaped puller with a bolt in it. Works great. It slides over the top of pitman arm.
Nice vid, big fan of Synergy gear. The single plane end is a must have for anyone with a bar that didn't come with (aka earlier bars) 😁
LOL - indeed. It's a big improvement.
I used to be in the Jeep world and enjoy your content. I do have one comment though.
When torquing a fastener, use a slower arm movement as it ensures that the fastener is being torqued (moved) to spec, so that there is no jolting (fast arm speed) of the fastener hitting the torque set limit of the torque wrench and then backing off. Those thread adjustment fasteners on the Synergy products make alignment sooo much easier, the design started to be commonly used on the e9X BMW 3 Series. Another trick is to lube the threads of the drag link ends and tire rod ends with copper anti-seize, it will make future adjustments easier as nothing has corroded together.
Thank you.
Love your videos and install 🇬🇺🇬🇺
Thank you, we're so glad to hear it :)
Recently found your channel. Abso love your videos! I need to take a look and see if you have stuff for TJs. I know you own the gamut of them. I learned so much from your channel as I am a very visual person.
Sorry, we don't have videos but we do have a lot of written write-ups on our website wayalife.com/showthread.php/29919-Jeep-TJ-Write-Up-Index
Heading your way for installation and support and hopefully autograph
LOL - glad you enjoyed the video :)
LOVE YOU SIR,From JAPAN
LOL - thank you :)
Nicely done! Hoping that sorted out the remaining front end issues for you.
Yup, I would say that it did.
Wow man that unboxing part hurt my brain a bit lol. Nice editing work! I wasn't able to drill my stock JK stabilizer for the Synergy tie rod mount. I will have to try a fresh drill bit now that I see you were able to! I will probably go with an aluminum tie rod when I upgrade it.
Try using some cutting oil when drilling. That will help a lot.
I wish I could still do stuff like this, I miss working on vehicles.
Great video. I love how you have ALLLL the tools you needs except the 22s wench haha
Troy Benson LOL - how embarrassing, right
I know things are busy, and I'm sure personal matters. but can't wait til you do.some more videos.
Thank you. We're happy to hear you enjoy our videos and appreciate your understanding and support.
Excellent video
Thank you :)
Awesome upgrade I’m all about making things better and stronger. But I’m still trying to get me a prorock 44 first. Your going to have to do an update video on all the stuff you have upgraded to see how it holds up on the long run.
Sure, give us some time and I think we can do an update like that.
17:52 Drag link pinch bolts. I have a HD synergy Drag link and the HD tie rod on my JKU however only have pinch bolt for the Pittman arm side of the DL. When i installed the origination was forward facing like yours however after driving the whole drag link will droop in downwards orientation. its pinch tight at the Pittman arm end and the knuckle end has a back nut.
It doesn’t seem like those tie rod ends for a JL thread in to the tie rod very far. I love Synergy, but I think they should have made specific versions … rubicon/everything else. Love all of your videos regardless Eddie! Safe wheeling! ✌🏻
Amazing video.
Glad you enjoyed it
At 14:49 You Looked Very Funny When You're Saying " Alright " 😀😁😂
Great video and explanation. Not sold on the synergy kit . I'm with you on the exposed threads hope it doesn't become an issue.
Shane Pribble LOL - not trying to sell anything, just sharing what we chose to use and why. If our video can help others out, all the better 😎
@@wayalife Choice of words wasn't saying you were selling me anything. thanks for the reviews
Shane Pribble you bet, it’s all good
Thanks Eddie..... I think I will need to do the same thing soon. I too am having a little sloppiness in my steering .
You bet! Glad we could be of help to you :)
Cute video Tails
This is great! Thank you!!!
Glad you liked it!
Please do more unboxing sequences/edits like that!
LOL - glad you enjoyed see it :)
Just found your channel
Great videos. I’m waiting fir my new rubicon to come in , should be couple months
Glad you found us and congratulations to you on your Rubicon to come!
Good job...and sucses👍👍👍
Anti-seize is your friend!! Especially on the threads you'll be adjusting like for toe & drag-link.
The Synergy instructions specifically state that they come from the factory with antiseize on the threads but that you should apply more to them if you live in a state where corrosion is an issue. I live in Nevada.
Very impressive job. Now we want to see how it worked out for you.
Worked out great!
you are a good man
1...2....9....10...got it! LOL Great video!!!!!
Brian Shipley LOL
Nice did it get rid of that play on the drag link & the wobble when you go over the rail road tracks. I have a JT Gladiator at 4000 miles the dealer had to replace the track bar I then installed the Senergy steering box brace so happy with that what a change in the steering, but I still have a wobble going over the tracks, I have the Mopar 2.5 lift & I added a Teraflex 1.5 leveling kit so happy with the look of the truck now, so my question is will the Senergy drag link & tie rod upgrade get rid of the wobble ? THANKS for the video you are so throw make it look so easy
