  • Soon after installing a Synergy heavy duty drag link and tie-rod, Cindy and I had a number of people ask, why we didn't upgrade our steering stabilizer at the same time? The simple answer is, we just didn't feel the need for one. Fortunately, the new steering components and track bar we installed seemed to do a great job of firming things up and in all honestly, our OE stabilizer seemed to be doing its job just fine. But, after giving it some thought, I decided to contact Synergy, just to see if there might be something they would recommend to compliment their steering system and as I would come to find, a Fox Performance Series 2.0 TS is what they pointed me to. In this video, you'll get to see just how easy one is to install.
    FROM FOX: Performance Series 2.0 Stabilizer TS
    With conventional steering stabilizers, turning in one direction creates an increase in pressure inside the stabilizer as the shaft occupies more volume in the body and displaces the oil. The repercussion is a push or pull steering force felt by the driver as the stabilizer attempts to return to its neutral state. To overcome this unidirectional force, dual opposing stabilizers are often used, but this requires additional mounting hardware and space.
    Derived from the FOX's original ATS stabilizer, the Performance Series 2.0 Stabilizer TS utilizes a Through Shaft (TS) architecture that eliminates shaft fluid displacement throughout the stabilizer's entire travel in both directions. By eliminating fluid displacement, the TS design delivers neutral and consistent damping of unwanted steering feedback. The result is unrivaled steering control at an unbelievable price point in a single, bolt-on stabilizer.
    The Performance Series 2.0 Stabilizer TS includes application specific mounting hardware and is available in multiple clamp sizes for stock or aftermarket heavy duty tie-rods.

I ordered the fox stabilizer kit but when I got the kit it was not the same as yours . I got the synergy clamp you took off . When I installed it the shock was touching the bracket. I also didn’t get the sand bracket and no fox track bar bolt . I’m was wondering where you got yours an maybe you know why mine is touching an just dosent look right . There’s a lot of wrong an different info out there and it’s killing me because Wrong parts an a pain with the lack of tools I got lol . Great info thank you, I am just starting to experience significant wobble in my 2021 Rubi. This stabilizer is on my radar as i will be upgrading the track bar and tie rods from synergy that you also recommended. Go big or go home😎

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  6 месяцев назад +1

      So, this video is old and I should note, I would not recommend it, especially to help control a wobble. All you would be doing is masking the real problem. Assuming the wobble you're feeling is speed related, get your tires balanced. Even if you've already had them balanced, have them do it again as it's not uncommon to need more than one balancing with big off road tires, especially if they're made by a lower quality manufacturer.

    • @Therealhomeinspectionauthority
      @Therealhomeinspectionauthority 6 месяцев назад

      @@wayalife yes i am going thru the correct steps for the wobble, balancing is needed again. However i did notice my tie rod has play in it so i decided to just replace the tie rod and track bar all at once and upgrade the stabilizer at the same time. just makes sense. I am running 37" tires. Thank you for your quick response.

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  6 месяцев назад +1

      If by play you mean a rotational movement, that is totally normal. A shifting side to side or up and down is not and means the TRE is worn out. I would double check to make sure your track bar bolts are tightened to 120 ft lbs of torque and assuming you have an aftermarket track bar, that the bushing isn't worn out. I would also check your ball joints as the factory ones tend to wear out quickly, especially when running wheels with less back spacing to clear 37" tires. That, more than anything is where your problem is coming from.

    • @Therealhomeinspectionauthority
      @Therealhomeinspectionauthority 6 месяцев назад

      @@wayalife I am familiar with replacing worn out tie rods, this one is definitely worn out. I need to find the time to check the entire suspension including ball joints this weekend. and i bought a torque wrench months ago after watching one of your videos. People use a stabilizer as a fix for bad steering issues all the time. Especially with dual stabilizers on trucks. The reality is, the stabilizer should compliment a good setup. Not fix something that is off.

    What steering box revision do you have? 68250506AD? I heard that the box makes a big difference to steering feel but I only have the AC revision. Not sure if it’s worth the effort to pursue replacing with Jeep yet because Gladiators supposedly come with AE but the reviews I’ve seen online still show play in the steering wheel.

    Hey Eddie! First, I just want to say thank you for all your amazing videos. You’ve helped me learn so much about my Jeep. Second, I have a few questions about installing this on my 21 JLUR with 35s if you have the time.
    1) I didn’t see you mention red Loctite in your video. Should I be adding it to the bolts if I plan on replacing a lot of the hardware around that area (Synergy steering kit, Mopar lift kit)? Currently stock rubi suspension/ steering.
    2) I noticed that you weren’t pleased with this product for durability issues. Do you think this part will last even though I intend to go on only a few off-road adventures each year and mainly daily drive my rubi?
    Thank you again for taking the time to help your viewers out!!

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  Год назад +2

      On a product like this, I only use red locktite if the instructions tell me to do so. Tightening bolts to torque spec is typically enough otherwise. As far as durability goes, it only takes a hit or two to damage the clamp enough to matter. I like Fox products but I personally would recommend sticking with the OE stabilizer.

    It looks really good. Something is up with my allignment on the JKU. I have a 3.5inch Rubicon Express lift on 35inch KM2. Mechanic that did my allignment said something with the track bar and Pitman Arm makes the right-front slightly out of alignment when I turn full-right. • @wayalife
      @wayalife  5 лет назад +1

      I think you need to find a new shop as this one doesn't seem to know what they're talking about. If just one of your tires is wearing faster on just the inside of the tread, you more than likely have a bent axle end forging or even tube. You should be able to see this on the amount of camber you have on that side.

    • @rsbrehm
      @rsbrehm 5 лет назад

      @@wayalife I see what you are saying but it appears the tires are straight. I did buy it from the dealership with the 3.5 lift already installed. Looking at the track bar it appears that the stock Rubicon bar was used which may be a Geometry problem.

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  5 лет назад +2

      @@rsbrehm You can't just look at a tire and determine it's straight. If they did an alignment, you should have a print out that SHOWS what angle your camber is sitting at on each side of your axle. I can almost guarantee you that the side with the tire wear issue is OFF and by quite a bit. A track bar being off center will NOT cause a tire wear issue. Your axle will ALWAYS be off a bit one way or another depending on how many passengers and gear your carrying or how unloaded you are. It's just the nature of the beast when it comes to solid axles and track bars.

Question: I am wondering why Synergy did not send you their Stabilizer Clamp Adapter, (4051-01) so that you could have used your heavy duty Synergy Clamp for the Fox install. The Synergy clamp is a lot heaver duty than the Fox clamp. It appears that you can remove the Fox clamp from the stabilizer and use the adapter (a special bolt and sleave) to connect the Fox stabilizer to your Synergy Clamp. I am not a mechanic, just reading from their website. PS: I have the relocation kit ordered, and after this video, a Fox TS. Thanks for all you do for our jeep driving community.

      Drag like acts as a axle centering device. Keeps the axles from shifting left or right when turning or sidehilling. Leaf spring suspension does not need this. Tie rods are a swivel that allows the link bar between 2 pivot points to pivot. That can be steering or suspension. It's pretty straight forward stuff. Hope this helps

    Question so after i lift my jeep jl whats a good steering kit and will i need a drop pitman arm

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  Месяц назад

      Depending on how much lift you install, you won't need anything other than an adjustable track bar to help recenter your axle at ride height. Of course, if you want to beef up your components so that they can hold up well from hits on the rocks, upgrading your tie rod and drag link as well is always a good idea. A dropped pitman arm may be desirable for lifts over 4.5" and ONLY if you install some kind of track bar relocation bracket at the same time. It is critical to keep BOTH drag link and track bar parallel to each other. The better solution would be to install a drag link flip or new knuckles with high steer and for that, I would recommend Rock Jock. But again, I personally would wait to see if you feel the need for something like that before spending the money on it.

      @@wayalife I had OC Motorsports do all my work, the problem I'm learning fast about these companies, is no one tells you why, they just sell you the products and the consumer has to become a professional about everything. I've been wheeling for about 7 years, all Overlanding. My last lift was AEV, great product. About a year ago, I noticed my entire front felt very loose when driving down the fwy, especially driving on hwy 60 heading to Palm Springs, I notice I had no control in curves. Something was up. So, after my trip, I took my Jeep to OC Motorsports for repairs. Turns out my ball joints where loose, drag link and track bar joints were all worn out. So I upgraded everything, I went with Synergy ball joints, Currie drag link, track bar and RCV axles. I also upgraded the steering stabilizer shock to the Fox. As I drove off the lot, right away, I noticed a huge difference, my front end was super tight. So night I was constantly over steering to control the vehicle. I also had the Jeep aligned too btw. You'd think everything would be perfect right? Wrong. I went back to OCM and told them, I can't control the Jeep, its super tight, worst that a sports car. They said, that's normal, you need to take your Jeep on the trails so things will loosen up. OK, so I did, I when on a 1000 mile overland across AZ, we did the BDR, you name it we did it. After, once I hit the hwy, I still had the same problem. Steering is super stiff. So for the 3rd time, I'm go back to OCM, complained about the problem. Their response, that's normal. Now, I'm at 1 year later, guess what with over 10,000 miles of off roading, I still have the same problem. Long story short, they lost me as a customer and now I'm becoming a professional on suspensions and products.

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  3 года назад +1

      So, some of what you're describing in terms of feel does sound like what new ball joints will feel like until they wear in. However, that should go away after 500 miles. If you're steering is still super tight, I might try removing your steering stabilizer and see if that helps. I personally prefer OE stabilizers because aftermarket ones can sometimes provide too much resistance or even a push or pull depending on how it's installed.

      This video is more than 2 years old. If things changed, that's news to me. This is what Fox sent me for a JL at the time. Either way, I no longer use it.

      So far, with 37's, we really haven't felt a need for it. When we get up on 40's, we'll most likely have to install something.

    Wouldn't your Jeep need an alignment after installing the new Fox steering stabilizer?

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  7 месяцев назад

      Why? Nothing has changed other than replacing the steering stabilizer. Toe remains unchanged, caster remains unchanged and you cannot adjust camber on a solid front axle. In fact, UNLESS you have aftermarket adjustable components installed, the most an alignment shop can do is charge you to recenter your steering wheel and that's assuming it's off - which it shouldn't be unless you've bent a drag link or tie rod.

    Loose mount the tie rod clamp and stabilizer to driver side w FOX emblem oriented legible,then rotate stabilizer back to passenger and tighten to spec. FOX won’t be upside down

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  2 года назад

      I ultimately removed this stabilizer. The clamp is made out of aluminum and it couldn't hold up to the rocks. It really should have been made out of steel.

      Sorry, I do not and to be honest, I don't even run it anymore. I would recommend picking up a Synergy relocation mount kit and just run the OE stabilizer.

      I believe that part number is correct if you have a factory tie-rod. I have a Synergy tie-rod and the part number ends with an 8.

    • @rkelmy
      @rkelmy 4 года назад

      I called Fox to confirm the part #. They claim they only offer a mount to stock tie rod end to axle mount, no option as shown in this great video of installing the track bar SS relocation bolt and connecting to the tie rod using a fox bracket. Eddie where did you obtain your Fox SS with the track bar relocation bolt and Fox tie rod bracket?

    In putting one simply because I have Fox shocks...might as well complete the setup with a Fox stabilizer.

      LOL - um, yeah, it was a big pot hole. A stabilizer will only "dampen" a hit, not eliminate it.

    Good video as always but what a stupid design, shaft is open to sand, dirt, debris which will damage the shaft then the damaged shaft will trash the seals. Was this designed to fail on purpose?

    • @endurotruckererniedesjardins
      @endurotruckererniedesjardins 5 лет назад

      Through shaft helps keep the damper shaft from binding. Allows both ends to run straight. Alot like how a long travel motocross fork sanction tubes has extra length inside the sliders so the forks dont flex. It's kinda to the same idea. In the end less dampershaft flex means less wear on internals and better piston seal. As for damage. If your smashing the damper into rocks.. you just wrecked other more important stuff. Pick good lines and your good. Wash your rig and seals will last.
