That last one with the missing rear end that came from the not reputable mechanic belongs to my Dad! Can’t tell you how happy we are to have it in good hands. Taking on a project like this, sight unseen, with potential unknown landmines can be a risk. Really appreciate it and so does my Dad! It’s been over a year sitting, so getting this project complete could be a great Father’s Day present!
Need much more of these kinds of shows on jeep problems. Also knowing that there is an honest and experienced shop around the SD area is valuable info. Thanks this was great to see.
Jerry is a brave mechanic to reveal all of the issues he hasn't figured out yet. I was a Truck / Heavy mechanic from 1970 til 1984. My specialty was fuel systems and electrical. This is before computers, so diagnosis was all gauges, pumps, and a test light. I made or modified most of my diagnostic gear, but at least the tool box was tiny! Intermittent problems were my life, and they were always tough to explain to the customers. I am impressed he knows the details of so many of the vehicles in his shop, and by the level of innovation he still maintains.
I might be one of those guys that couldn't wait for the warranty to run out on my JL. With so many issues with service at the dealership, I'm so glad to have found Shift Autowerks, thanks to Brad and TrailRecon. Jerry and his crew are my go to guys for all our Jeep repairs and service. 😉✌
I was the opposite and Chrysler helped cover over 10k of my engine and transmission when my warranty was barely out. It was within years but not mileage.
Brad, Man you are sooo lucky to have this shop and Jerry and his crew available to work on your rigs knowing that they are experienced and trustworthy. I, like you, enjoy working on our 2015 JKU. Sometimes though you gotta take it to a professional. Jerry’s integrity stands out every time you feature him in one of your videos. Want to wish you safe travels in your journey north. Looking forward to the videos to come!
Jerry has a ton of information that would help everyone, from the newest, most basic Jeep owner to the most seasoned off-roader. Keep this videos coming (every once in a while when Jerry has time, of course...).
RANT WARNING: What stands out to me far above the cool mods that he's doing for some customers is the continuous onslaught of WELL KNOWN jeep problems; Head Gaskets, misfires, flattened cam lobes, mysterious electrical problems, transfer cases in the 392's, etc. My 2011 hemi swapped JK has had nothing but problems. In the past 3 years it has spent a total of 20 months in the shop Not only did I have an over heating problem, a burnt valve, a head gasket issue with the engine, but the ECM has gone hawire a couple of times, the EVAP canister issue seems unsolvable, the TCase and trans have had problems, and I lost a ring and pinion. Not to mention normal wear items like ball joints, wheel bearings, U Joints. Jeep is consistently on top or near the top of the worst cars on the road, right along with Volvo, Jag, and Land Rover. I don't know what to say, but Good Fxxxxing luck if you're a jeep owner. Don't get me wrong I love my jeep when it's working.... love love love it, but I am done emptying my wallet for it. After thousands of man hours in maintenance, 6 figures in cost, and more down-time than up-time I'm going to finally throw in the towel. I dreamed of being a Jeep guy. I tried hard to be a Jeep guy, and now I'm finished being a Jeep guy. I'll continue to watch and appreciate all the great Jeep content being produced with operational jeeps, but I'll be sighing all the while, because I know from experience that, behind the scenes, creators are constantly emptying their wallets to keep these things trail-worthy. Brad I love your videos. Keep 'em coming!
Wish I lived out west, I’d be there in a minute to have my jeep done. Jerry is great. I live in NJ and reached out to him to pick his brain and get some help with my JK. He gave me a call and walked me through some things to try.. need more mechanics like him. Thanks again Jerry. 👍👍
Hey Brad, THIS IS AWESOME .... As someone who LOVES Jeeps but Owns (And LOVES) TACOS, I WILL one day have a Jeep as well, LOVE to hear Jerry talk about all the Jeep issues that are brought to him !!!! Its GREAT to know all this , And its also GREAT that you have someone like HIM as your mechanic Who is EXTREMELY Knowlegable, As well as being a BADASS Offroader !!! Guys like Him ( AND his crew) are Few and Far between !!!! You are TRULY lucky !!!!!! And WE are Truly lucky to have someone like YOU !!!
I drive a 21 Tacoma but I still love Jeeps, the way they use to be before Stallantis ruined them. The thing I loved about old jeeps was the simplicity and ruggedness. Toyota is screwing up too with the 4 cylinder turbo, I fully expect and have heard of issues already. My favorite off road truck I have owned is an old FJ60, with a straight 6 and manual transmission. Dead simple.
I was introduced to Shift Autowerx from one of your earlier videos. I've been going to them ever since and I couldn't be happier - very solid group there!
Shift re-geared my 392, installed my Tazer, and installed the Z automotive pigtails to override the locker sensor issue. They will be installing the 3" AEV lift. Great shop to do business with.
Super great video. Would be awesome to do these with this shop every couple months. Love seeing knowledgeable shops like this break down the real life issues that come across these multiple platforms.
Quality work from a shop is hard to find these days, but they still exist. Thanks to you the word is getting out there to more people who may require this type of service. Thanks for another great video Brad . And good luck again on your upcoming adventure North 🤞
I really enjoyed this video. Appreciated the discussion of needed repairs. When this was over i went out and hugged my TJ 4.0 with manual 5 speed. Now I truly know how good my Jeep is.
I wish this shop was over here in Virginia. I would definitely take my wife’s Gladiator there for an alignment and “once over/double check” after I just finished installation of a Clayton Offroad suspension yesterday.
Jerry is a great guy, he worked on my jeep, was honest and the work was done quickly. Glad to see his business is doing well and keeping him and his partners busy. Guess I better schedule the additional modifications I want done with him soon or it may be a while before he can fit me in his schedule. Thanks for sharing.
We tow a 4500lb GTW Cruiser Hitch 17BHS travel trailer with our basically stock 22JT Max Tow. Definitely appreciate the HD towing mods. We were modifying our 14JKU 6speed till we got the JT for towing. Thanks for the info and ideas.
Can’t believe he just walks through and remembers everything that’s wrong with all those jeeps. It means he’s in tune with his business and knows what’s going on.
Well done, thank you, appears to be a most exceellent shop. I had two Rubicons. One at 45K miles - engine block and manifold went out - and had to be replaced. 6 months later the fuel pump went out. The first case, a long tow, the second case a shorter tow. And then 6 months later the transmission went out & had to be rebuilt. Many sensors, belts, sway bar arms also had to be replaced. I finally traded that in for 20K mile 2020 Toyota 4 runner. I still have the other Rubicon, which was used weeks back for 5 days in the backcountry; six months earlier, new shocks & tires on that one $$$.It's a roll of the dice in my view, some jeeps 'make it', some don't. With the lockers, tires, power they are excellent climbing & on rock; but problems happen. We carry code readers for each vehicle. Thanks Brad, well done.
Awesome video as always Brad. Definitely like this type of content it so interesting as a fellow Jeep fan learning all about Jeep and all problems they have and learn how to fix them.
I really enjoy this style of video because it shows me that I'm not alone in facing random mechanical issues with my Jeeps over the years. I've often wondered what was happening with all the impressive rigs at Shift. For years, I was a DIY mechanic, but after meeting Jerry and having him diagnose early issues on my old JK, I've decided to entrust all my suspension and engine work to Shift. Jerry has helped me avoid some potentially disastrous purchases. Up next will be a Rhino Rack and a Metal Cloak Game Changer to replace the Teraflex lift currently on my JL. I saw the Trail Recon Trail Aid Station on a parts run to Napa the other day. It looks way more impressive in person.
We've owned our daughters Jeep for 7 years now. Have had more problems than any other vehicle we have ever owned. It's completely stock and unmodified. We've had to replace axle seals, ball joints, fuel pump, both heads, thermostat twice, misfire problems three times, wiring problems, oil cooler, & A/C compressor, to name a few. All out of pocket repairs except one of the heads. She's never off-roaded it, just drives to school and work. We're trading it in on Monday and can't wait to be rid of it!
Great vid Brad. Jerry and Shift Off-Road are top shelf. We live in Lake Elsinore and take our JKU to him for everything. They did the entire build after we bought it and all of it is exactly what we wanted. Thay absolutely continue to exceed our expectations.
Thank you Brad and Jerry for making and sharing this video! I recently had the clutch in my JK replaced and my mechanic refused to upgrade to a Centerforce. Also couldn’t diagnose a wandering/ twitchy steering issue. Everything in the steering has been upgraded and/or reinforced. I am even more convinced now that I need to make the 3 hour drive to Shift Autowerks and have my rig dialed in. Thank you again!
I appreciate your openness in sharing the issues ... makes me a little nervous about purchasing a Gladiator (specifically the "miss" issue). I have been looking at them with great interest because there are so many aftermarket offerings. Thank you again for sharing the information.
I have three Toyotas with over 250k and am thinking about a Gladiator to replace one of them. More videos please to help me build my checklist of upgrades. Thanks Brad. Good luck in the Arctic. Be safe. Semper Fi.
Awesome video, I think it's great to see issues and things to watch out for. It could really be great for someone. Thanks for sharing this. I hope that older gentleman's jeep gets fixed. Please do a follow-up on that if you could.
This was great! Hearing the stories of the Jeeps on the lot was very cool. Maybe a follow up on the status on how things went on some of the builds and repairs would be a good way to invite Jerry back - since you asked. Funny story, we had a misfire and ended up as an injector, simple fix. - add that to the 3.6 list of possibilities. But in the end the motor did us right.
I know Jeeps have their issues, but man my modded 2012 JKUR was so good to me, even after 10 years of wheeling. Shops also warrantied it with mods with no problems. This was still under FCA, mind you. I hear Stellantis doesn't like modded Jeeps. Frankly, Jeep needs a new owner. I traded mine in 2021 toward my current Ford Ranger Tremor, which has been perfect so far, but man it has NO soul. I miss my JK every day, and I will absolutely own a Wrangler or Gladiator again at some point. I'm in the process of modding the Ranger to make it mine, which I hope adds some character and feeling to it.
I LIKE THIS TYPE OF VIDEO! ADDRESSING MECHANICAL AND ELECTRONIC ISSUES CAN BE DIFFICULT. I LIKE THE FACT THAT HE ADMITS THAT HE DOESN'T ALWAYS KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. I AM THINKING ABOUT BUYING A JEEP RUBICON 392, AND KNOWING WHAT TO EXPECT REALLY HELPS. I LIKE THAT YOU DO NOT USE COARSE LANGUAGE IN YOUR VIDEOS, IT IS REFRESHING! KEEP DOING THESE INTELLIGENT AND INFORMATIVE VIDEOS! HAVE A BLESSED DAY , SIR!!!
I can hear it now Brad. Jerry will be soon telling you he's got people from the east coast and mid west calling, saying they're heading his way. You're lucky to have Jerry close by, and the fact he's your friend is added bonus.
Thoroughly enjoyed watching this video. I would love to have a shop like this to work on my jeep . Very interesting to see what they are working on also.
Cars are only going to become more complicated. Stuff like the 2.0T only coming as a complete block is an example. A good mechanic is a good friend to have.
Brad, I really enjoyed the video and goes to show what having a competent Jeep shop available to you offers. I will state this as well having a good mechanic that does. The general stuff is also priceless as well as I would love to do a lot of stuff myself my problem is I only have one car so if something comes up, I don’t have a way to go and get other stuff so I have to trust more in these guys, so thanks again for the video
Brad, This was a very interesting video. 2 liter, 3.6 liter, and 392s all have some issues. I bought a 2021 Wrangler 3.0 EcoDiesel and was glad that I didn't see one there. I have 55,500 miles on mine and no issues yet, My fingers are crossed for luck. I do wonder though if many of the issues are due to modifications and that strain other OEM components. I haven't made huge mods but have lifted mine and since it is a Sport have put 33s on it. I can't go everywhere but I can have a lot of fun going to many places. But I haven't ruled out some future mods to let me have more fun. Thanks for sharing.
Cheap frames and to many electronics on newer vehicles as well as engine issues because of oiling issues. enjoyed this video very informative, keep them coming.
Sadly, I also had the misfire issue on my Jeep's 3.6L. And of course, it wasn't under the extended warranty because it is a 2016. To their credit, Jeep refunded 50% of the repair bill which was extremely nice, but still, they KNOW these engines have this issue yet still continue to sell them. There should be something that can be done. I don't know what but it's such a constant issue I would think they could have corrected it by now.
Love this one great feedback and honest issues, not sure if I should be happy that it is all documented or if I should cry cause there's so many issues
Cool format! . I enjoyed seeing the different Jeeps and hearing about the various issues. Also, watching this made me feel good about my 173k mile boring 4Runner, haha.
11:39 Glad to see more people wheeling on beefed up JL-JT 44s on 40s. Seems like a common thing nowadays, probably more JLs-JTs out there wheeling hard on beefed up 44s than tons. But if you can afford tons more power to you, just an observation.
Man i wish i had a shop like this in West Tn that i could trust!!! Love this type of video Brad! I think you should do some live videos on your big trip.
I own both and every Wrangler I’ve owned has had issues. I’ve owned 6 Tacomas and the only issue I’ve had is the TSS on my current 3rd gen. Thats it out of every one. Jeeps are fun though.
I’d like to hear Jerry’s thoughts and maybe fixes for the 2023 Rubicon Gladiator 3.0 Diesel heating up issue. Factory 2 lift. 35 tires, 3:88 gears from factory. Rated to tow from factory 6500 lbs. AZ heat. Great video. Thank you.
All these jeeps and no problem with any echo diesel I have a 2021 and so far I have not had any problems with it I think the diesel is one of the best jeeps out there
Hey Brad, great video! I have my 2014Jeep rubicon, at the Jeep dealer here in Catherdral City ca. There fixing oil leaks, replacing the oil cooler housing and the timing chain cover casket. It has about 134,000 miles on it.They gave me a 2018 Jeep JL to use while they do the repair. They treat me ok, don't like taking it to the dealer, but I know the guys there so it should be fine. Would have loved to take it to Shift Autoworks, but this is close to where I live. Thanks for the shop tour!
I live in the area and I always take my jeep to pipe dream fabrication Mike over there took care of my miss fire problem and is vary knowledgeable about jeeps and there common problems and best of all he’s trustworthy.
EVERY full-time T-Case I've ever had any knowledge of has been a problem child. Long time ago a buddy had a full size Cherokee Chief with the Borg Warner full time case and after he had continual problems I finally convinced him to spend the money on an Atlas II .
New to wheeling as I just bought a new ZR2 and have been really enjoying your videos. Funny thing, I saw you drive past my shop off Andresen Dr today. Wanted to say hi but you looked like you were headed somewhere? Anyway thanks for the content. Perhaps I’ll see you again. I’m in suite L&M, stop by and say hi sometime. Paul
I recently got rid of a 21 JL that had electrical issues. It was in the shop about 10-12 times sometimes for a week at a time. They could not replicate the issues. I had videos of a lot of the issues but some were so sporadic I could not get them recorded. Once the warranty ran out I knew I didn’t want to foot the bill for electrical exploration and take a chance on a major malfunction while driving.
Well, this scares me a little. I'm a new Jeep driver. A 22 Gladiator. Makes me feel like I shouldn't push it too hard or it'll be in the shop half the time. They build a vehicle that is meant to be run hard, but if you do, you'll pay dearly for it.
Ok, as someone who WAS thinking about switching over to a Wrangler Unlimited soon, hearing about all these busted Jeeps has me second guessing myself! :P
These stories are common at any auto repair shop. That's what keeps them in business. If he were to visit a shop focused on Toyotas you would hear similar stories... especially to those modified vehicles.
Wish I could afford half of the mods one of those Jeeps is getting. I’ve got an 88 XJ with a 4.6 stroker in it, AX 15, 8.8 ford rear axle, a Dana 30 front with the chrome Molly one piece axles with manual locking hub conversion. 4.11 gears and Electric lockers front and rear, running 33’s BFG k2’s. It ain’t a $100,000 jeep but it works getting me around the Sierra Nevada searching for gold.
I hope I see that orange gladiator driving around. I live in Riverside too and have been thinking about this shop when I get my jeep. Y'all are so far though 🥲
On that white Sierra white Jeep recommends all engine and turbo replacement is so that they get a satisfied customer, especially when installed at a certified car dealership. Rod knock equals bearing debris bearing debris. Go through every single thing including the turbo journals, oil, coolers. Everything related has to be replaced. Cleaning does not 100% guarantee left over bearing debris has been removed so that's why they recommend whole engine replacement. Buy once cry once or in this Jeep's owner's case by twice LOL
Loved this one, please do more of these with Jerry. Like you, I like learning about the various Jeep issues and what to be on the look out for.
I feel the same way. This education is invaluable.
FWIW … I concur. Great video with an apparently great person who both wheels and works on the same product(s). Nicely done!
Great vid. Would like to see a “prevention” video with Jerry. For example, “most common Jeep JL problems and how to prevent them”(if possible)
Stay tuned for our you tube podcast, we will be posting videos, installs and there will be a talk show also
Thank you. Prevention of most common problems and maybe not possible to prevent them, but just delay the problems. 👍
He should absolutely have his own channel. A Jeep shop YT channel would be solid for people like me trying to learn!
It’s already in the works, 1st ep drops next month we will have a TON OF CONTENT
I am stoked!!!
This makes me appreciate my ol' reliable 4.0 TJ 🙂
Dude, I so wish they would bring back the in-line six cylinder!

Damnit, makes me feel like I am driving a time bomb
We tow a 4500lb GTW Cruiser Hitch 17BHS travel trailer with our basically stock 22JT Max Tow. Definitely appreciate the HD towing mods. We were modifying our 14JKU 6speed till we got the JT for towing. Thanks for the info and ideas.
I really liked the walk arounds with Jerry. I just subbed to him.
Now we need to get him to make more content!!

Both heads on 2.0T?! How come?! Asking because it cannot be 3.6, it doesnt break at all😳
What kind of jeep/year?
Great vid Brad. Jerry and Shift Off-Road are top shelf. We live in Lake Elsinore and take our JKU to him for everything. They did the entire build after we bought it and all of it is exactly what we wanted. Thay absolutely continue to exceed our expectations.

2022 Wrangler Sport with the 6 cylinder engine and auto trans getting 23 mpg on the highway, with 18k miles. So far zero issues. Nice review Thanks. 😎
Brad , do not give up on your 74 classic cherokee , spending the time getting it right will be worth it. Go Navy !!! fellow squid
Nice video. Ramped up my anxiety just thinking about having to schedule and work on that many jeeps.
So happy to see that project prickly pear is still alive. Great video man!
I have three Toyotas with over 250k and am thinking about a Gladiator to replace one of them. More videos please to help me build my checklist of upgrades. Thanks Brad. Good luck in the Arctic. Be safe. Semper Fi.
Tacomas?
This is a great video for knowing what I'm getting myself into with a gladiator, would love to see more of these kinds of videos!
Awesome video, I think it's great to see issues and things to watch out for. It could really be great for someone. Thanks for sharing this.
I hope that older gentleman's jeep gets fixed. Please do a follow-up on that if you could.
Love this video. I will definitely be referring back to it for future builds.
You’re in good hands for sure. He really does care about his customers.
no problems with 08 tacoma, 298k miles, same clutch.
Awesome segment, and great work by Jerry/Shift team.
This was great! Hearing the stories of the Jeeps on the lot was very cool.

I miss my JK every day, and I will absolutely own a Wrangler or Gladiator again at some point. I'm in the process of modding the Ranger to make it mine, which I hope adds some character and feeling to it.
I love this type of videos. great to hear the story. Sad to hear about the customer that lost 15,000 dollars. very sad indeed.
Hi Brad, very nice video. Thank you for sharing 🚗
I think this is one of the best videos you have done. It lets everyone know what to look out for and what improvements we all need to look at.
I can hear it now Brad. Jerry will be soon telling you he's got people from the east coast and mid west calling, saying they're heading his way. You're lucky to have Jerry close by, and the fact he's your friend is added bonus.
Fun to hear the stuff in the shop! Thanks, Brad.
Thoroughly enjoyed watching this video. I would love to have a shop like this to work on my jeep . Very interesting to see what they are working on also.
Definitely getting the frame reinforcement when it’s available
I'm in SoCal so bookmarked this one for sure. 80 and still building Jeeps, Wow! I'm not there yet but closing in on 80 far too fast.
After watching this I’m going to kiss my trouble free ‘10 Tacoma right on the grill.
Thanks, didn't know about the Gladiator Frame Brace. Went to their website and sent them a message.
Really like this series of episodes Brad! Driving alone so much I really need to learn! Tnx Brad
Just want to say, I love these videos. Very informative.
Best video in a while. Really enjoyed it. Jerry is great in front of the camera.
Strong right out of the gate: “this Sahara needs a new engine”.
Yeah that’s the Turbo
E-torque? With new 7 kW battery?
I had read the 2.0L is essentially a throw away engine. He basically confirmed it.
for sure, no BS
Sounds like an opportunity to get a 6.4 or a LS/LT in that bad boy!!! Just sayin'...
Good jeep mechanics are hard to find - and when you do they are scheduled months out. However, this video makes me appreciate my 4.0 a little more
I enjoyed the video and would like to see more. Jerry has great knowledge and experience that's good to hear.
Yes please - more like this. Thanks Brad - keep up the great work.
Actually really enjoyed this one Brad, Jerry seems super knowledgeable when it comes to jeeps….i know who to bring my JL to if I ever get one 😅
Man i wish i had a shop like this in West Tn that i could trust!!! Love this type of video Brad! I think you should do some live videos on your big trip.
ANOTHER great video Brad !!!! I learn something from every one !!!! THANKS BRUTHA ........
I own both and every Wrangler I’ve owned has had issues. I’ve owned 6 Tacomas and the only issue I’ve had is the TSS on my current 3rd gen. Thats it out of every one. Jeeps are fun though.
Great show….way to mix it up, and think outside the garage for this episode of coffee one take
I’d like to hear Jerry’s thoughts and maybe fixes for the 2023 Rubicon Gladiator 3.0 Diesel heating up issue. Factory 2 lift. 35 tires, 3:88 gears from factory. Rated to tow from factory 6500 lbs. AZ heat. Great video. Thank you.
All these jeeps and no problem with any echo diesel I have a 2021 and so far I have not had any problems with it I think the diesel is one of the best jeeps out there
Great to see this type of video. Master tech/mechanics are hard to find.
Great job. Please do this every few months!
I think and LRA tank would be a great idea before the Alaska trip. That and 10 gallons in Jerry cans
I love this it’s nice to know what you need to look out for. I own 2 jeeps and you have to love them to own them.
I have had four Wranglers, zero issues. The video shows the ones in the shop. There are thousands on the road. 😊
Great episode… we miss that passion in France,
I hope I see that orange gladiator driving around. I live in Riverside too and have been thinking about this shop when I get my jeep. Y'all are so far though 🥲
That 74 is the coolest jeep there.
