    I remember as a kid n the 50s and early 60s once in a while a Bangor & Aroostook box car was in a freight consist in it's red, white and blue colors. Most were weathered like this or worse but one time I saw a brand new, shiny one went by. Very exciting.

    Hey, Norm, thank you for accepting the Holiday Box Car Challenge! I think you know how much I appreciate your jumping on board. I love the video and the way you tackled the challenge. One of these cars is one of my oldest recollections of real railroading. The unusual tricolor scheme with its bold colors, the fact that it was around the time of the Bicentennial and seemed to reflect that, and the fact that I would never see another one of them, all probably imprinted the memory well. They certainly were iconic.

    I think it looks GREAT! I like the older Weaver and Intermountain cars. I like to mod both cars with Weaver metal trucks but I think I used the last set this week.....so going forward plastic trucks will be used. Weathering is always good to see......something you can always learn more about. Thanks!

    As always, rocked it out! Door scrapping and building up "dirt/grime" on the door tracks always adds so much to the freight car. weathering. Not so much "damage" but "used" which is always a great touch. Merry Christmas!

    Did you just commit HO herecy... physically picking up a car? An HO purist would've spent 35 minutes in operations turning that bad boy around😂
    'Wanna say how much I've enjoyed your videos lately (especially the long format)- fixing, modifying with some rum-time on the layout afterwards.
    'Recently acquired the new Big Boy, complete with "extra parts"... two rectangular flat magnets loosely adhered to the loco's metal extremities. Inspired, I'll take a look myself over the weekend n' figure out where they might go before sending her in.

    Hey Norm Happy New Year!! I am a big fan of your channel and love your videos. Your weathered locomotives, rolling stock and realistic scenes look awesome. I have been wanting to get into O Gauge for the last few years (I have HO equipment right now). It just seems like such a big jump in space and $$$. I would love to see your setup if you offer that at all and depending on your location. Anyway thanks for the great content!!👍🙂

    Hey Norm, I'm really interested in where you keep all of the rolling stock and the numerous locomotives that you have. Do you have an extra rail yard or display wall when you aren't using some of them? Great videos.

    • @normstrains
      @normstrains  6 месяцев назад +1

      I have a couple walls' worth of Glenn Snyder shelving and I also have a cart that rolls under the layout for rolling stock. I was not slick enough to build this layout from the outset with staging. Maybe someday!

    Norm I sent you a text on Facebook but I have a MTH that I was running I turned it off, it went through the blow off mode but when I went to start it up it kept popping the breaker on the transformer. I live here in Taylor Michigan.

    • @normstrains
      @normstrains  6 месяцев назад

      Your best bet might be to get in touch with the repair department at Great Lakes. I dont mess with MTH stuff too much beyond my conversion projects. Btw, I don’t have a Facebook. There’s probably some slightly confused French Canadian guy out there that wonders why he got your message 😂

    Beautiful work and great tutorial! A couple questions: how can we access your old blog posts as I'd love to read about your first layout and your work from 2000-2012 when your posts start showing up on OGR. Second, are your 3d files available somewhere for download? I'd like to install Kadees and your shims etc would be a huge help. Thanks Norm love your work!

    • @normstrains
      @normstrains  6 месяцев назад +1

      I think I took that down in 2013. OGR posts from that era were probably nuked during some of their hosting changes.
      For the Kadee adapters, etc., I share my 3D prints that I make on Tinkercad from time to time or I just email the .stl files. Hit me up on email if you need some..

    one of your videos delt with a steam engine where the center wheels (the ones without flanges) where too low and binding on the curves. Please tell me how you remedied that.

    • @normstrains
      @normstrains  6 месяцев назад

      That was the 5022 and I had to harden up the blind drivers along with the rear set. I took out the springs and put plugs in their place. Took a bit of tweaking to get the heights right. It was in one of those vids.

    • @DeadrailTrains
      @DeadrailTrains 6 месяцев назад

      Thanks and happy new year. I have an MTH G-5 where the center set of wheels is grabbing switch rails. First I am going to try replacing the tires with Lionel ones to raise the wheel set. They tend to be thicker.@@normstrains

    I do understand why you are putting HO scale cuplers on 0 scale rolling stock and the locomotives, I know that MTH has the real looking air hoses on the clupers.
    I am not being mean at all, I am trying to understand why.
