The realism of your models, your layout and your videos is just beyond belief!! You sir are a master!!!
You’re NOT boring, your videos aren’t boring !! Your vids are fantastic. To those of us that don’t model O gauge or Lionel, it’s fascinating how they’re put together and how you service them. I totally enjoy your building and interior videos 👍🏽
Good stuff - Keep it coming !!
You are NOT boring, Norm! It's so fascinating to follow your narration and experience the verbalized thought processes of a certifiable mechanical genius at work. It's all pure freaking magic to me, but it's a little like listening to a symphonic conductor dissect the score of a Beethoven or Mozart concerto! Keep going Norm, it's the music of the spheres!
Norm, you are NOT boring. I thank you so much for evry episode you put out. I know the YT analytics will show gaps in people watching but that is okay because for me, if I cannot sit down to watch in one session I am going to finish and want to ingest every moment. Re-watch them all again. You are truly an inspiraiton, even more so in preserving and keeping life to models that most of our "modern" modelers just want the newest, best, flashy features. I love the realism, the details, the thought going into every model. Those 2000-2010 models are spot on. Thank you again for all you do!
Far from boring, always a wealth of knowledge and interesting.👍🏻
Brilliant. I always learn something by watching your videos. Thank You.
Young man, I've been reading about - and watching clips of - your work for years, and it never gets boring and never disappoints. This clip was fascinating as well as educational. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and beautiful artwork with us.
Love the revamp and story on the EM1 Norm!!! Always love seeing what you have in store and how you may attack a project. Those shots at the end are fantastic. Feels like you are there in person next to the track.
No worries about the length of the vid - - excellent, never lost a second of interest. btw, some of the best "R/R" photography I've ever seen - very much enjoyed your EM-1's performance. 👍
Every time you post one of these projects, I always finish one of my own because I am inspired.
You and norm are finishing projects and somehow I cant find some time to share some videos of my new trainboard. Gary
I really like how cut and dry and “real” your videos are. I can’t stand those who try to put on a show with every upload. Makes it hard to watch. And of course your modeling is excellent and serves as an inspiration for many including me!
Hey thanks man! Not too long ago I scored a vintage Ambroid NKP caboose kit just in case I get an NKP Berk.
We realized today that your one of the best story tellers we have as train guys. Much appreciated. If I live another 30 years, will probably never hear a guy discuss shoulder bolts and hold our attention so well. Gary
Norm Your videos are not too long but much appreciated . Good humor too !! You are valuable to the train members !! I like the smoke information as I am having a problem.
Norm, I can't tell you how much I enjoy watching and following your modification technics as well as your creative eye in building model layouts. You are making me think about purchasing a proper 3D printer since so many manufacturers do not support their product after so many years.. Watching your presentation on these cams was just so interesting since for what ever reason Lionel gave us 2 chuffs on so many models. Of course DCS gave you the option to choose how many chuffs per revolution you want but not good ole' Lionel. Thank you again Norm for your videos, so many of us out here really appreciate and enjoy them!!!
Norm, your layout is Fantastic. From track work, buildings, scenery, weathering. Its all TOP NOTCH. Thank you again.
Mmm yes I love smoke units and oily engines
Norm, i love your layout and your videos, especially this one where you explained the boards and what they do.
Great detail, appreciate for a new person to this engine.
Keep up the good work Norm of all the RUclips railroaders I watch you are my favorite and I always look forward to your next video and your layout is beyond belief
Fantastic! I enjoyed every minute of it as I do all your content! Thanks for sharing Norm.
Ridiculous skills/layout/trains. So rad love the long format 🚂🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥✊
NOT BORING at ALL. Great vid… nothing like seeing how something is done. Thankyou Norm
Incredible Norm! You work very hard on these!
Norm you are a damn GENIUS!!!!!!! BRAVO SIR. I happen to have many, if not ALL of the engines you have, you inspired me PRR!!!!!! RULES.
THANKS BOSS KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK. FASCINATING NOT BORING AT ALL. RR COLLEGE!!!
You are NOT boring in the least! Very interesting in how you got this beast all fixed up! Need to mix it up with the J1a on head end or helper! 😁
Fascinating Norm! You teach us so much.. Thank you... 🙏🙂
As all the above comment, enjoy and lots of knowledge gained,
Thank you,
Les
Norm, thank you so much. I’m not sure I’ve ever enjoyed an O Gauge video more than this one. Yeah, of course I’m biased in favor of the B&O subject matter, but that’s beside the point. There are a variety of people out there with a variety of interests. Among them are some with a thirst to understand how O gauge engines work, how to diagnose problems and how to make repairs and upgrades. You understand all that and share your knowledge with your viewers - for free. We are lucky to have you spending your personal time taking us on a detailed tour of disassembling an engine, describing electronics, functions, interfaces and how they work. There is no amount of detail you could go into that I would find tedious or boring. The further you go into making tutorials the more time I want to spend watching them.
I always enjoy your videos, long or shorter. They are interesting. And your layout is second to none, I think. Thanks Norm!
Master O gauge locomotive mechanic, master benchwork bilder, master scenery maker.Simply amazing. A better model railroader you couldn't ask for.
You're not boring! This is so valuable for beginners like me!! Keep posting!
Fantastic video and informative. I’m an Ho guy but enjoy your attention to detail and the content. Your layout is top notch in my opinion and my hopes is to one day to have mine as good as yours. Well done !!!!
The robustness of that model is impressive. It is very heavily built.
Great stuff. All the technology and thought that goes into modern ‘toys’. Thanks!
Great video Norm, I find your videos very informative with everything that you know about these models and I’m learning from these videos. Great action on your layout! Thank you for another great video
This is a great video, thank you Norm for your work in making these videos very educational for us. I wish I understood John Will's Super Chuffer add-on electronics to TMCC better. I also think you're making of a '4-chuff' cam to replace Lionel's dumb ole '2-chuff' cam is awesome. To me, its more reliable than the reed switch process. I have this same locomotive, bought it in 2000, but I had it upgraded to full Legacy with a prototypical whistle. This whistle however, though not prototypical, is one of the finest whistles from Lionel 2000-2005 era I've ever heard. It's very haunting.
I feel like I’m looking over your shoulder!
Hey Norm, I’m mainly an HO B&O guy. Seeing the title O scale EM1 caught my attention. I was absolutely enthralled with your disassembly and explanation of the workings of this model. I was also fascinated with your version of the 3d printed chuff actuator.
I feel the same way you do about the smoke. As cool as it looks, there’s a price to pay for it. Faulty elements and oily surfaces creeping all over.
If you ever did a private tour, I’d be very interested. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with everyone. I learned a lot.
Great video as always! I have the Legacy version from a few years ago. It's a fantastic model.
Wow, the trains look really awesome. Great work Norm! 😀
Smoke at Norm’s??? Friggn awesome!
I was repairing a Williams O scale Hudson and was also mystified how they put the driver/gearbox together. The unit had a lot of slop and play but I could not figure out how to take it apart. Like you concluded. The factory must have used specialized jigs for assembly
Superb!
like learning thank you very much good day!
Man those sounds are insane! ❤😮
Norm, thanks for showing us a smoking steamer!! (as well as filming the entire train) Also, could you tell me more about that "Air Reduction" boxcar? I've never seen one like that before.
What a beast! Impressive!
Thanks for sharing.
I love Lionel EMs but have never bought one because they're so expensive. I do have an MTH Y6B and C&O Allegheny, so there's big steam on my layout. Never any problems with either of them, PS1s.
Cool!!
Excellent information. I enjoy watching your content
I do have a question…where could I possibly pick up those marker lights? I need some for a tender for a 2-8-0 WM. The led is a constant red. I want to have a marker light over the led.
Thanks aground for the inspiration and information.
I genuinely wonder if the older AC-9 2-8-8-4s lionel put out have the same issues. It'd be really interesting to see.
What heat tape do you use for your smoke units? I would love to not cook my board while getting smoke fluid all over my engines. 🤣 Great videos by the way, you're a great teacher whether you mean to be or not!
It's basically old school metal duct tape. I hope I was clear about making sure it doesn't short the element. Good luck!
Great episode. Any plans to expand the layout?
Not anytime soon but I have plenty of projects to keep it interesting in the near future!
Hey Norm, have you used the chuff generator from Gunrunner John as well? I see you use the super chuffer but with cam or the reed switch with the ERR stuff. I just ordered one of the generators along with the super chuffer to go in a consolidation I have. (early TMCC)
I still have one in my old Y3. I could never really get a consistent chuff rate. I prefer a driver based chuff so I can get the phasing right on the dead centers. I still think it’s a cool product.
Like 350👍👍👍👍👍👍
Wait so norm, what are your thoughts on old postwar smoke units where it's just a cast metal tub with a sheet metal cap and a heating element over some packing?
Great video! I have a Legacy J1a and can not figure out what is wrong with my smoke unit. It has cylinder smoke and stack smoke. I recently replaced the resistors from Lionel and now smoke leaks out everywhere. It leaks out of the sides and also from the main smoke side through the cylinder smoke side and out the air intake of the cylinder smoke side. I replaced the gasket and still get leaks. I’m really about to throw in the towel on smoke for the reasons you mentioned, but it’s a cool gimmick to show off. Any suggestions? Go figure Lionel does not make the board or parts anymore. Thanks for your help!
Aw man I wouldn’t know much about that one. That was the first J1a w/Legacy right? Almost sounds like your stack is misaligned.
@@normstrains I think it’s the one from around 2017. I tried it with the shell off and it leaks pretty good. Some of the tapped screw holes in the smoke unit bowl are slightly stripped. I may try to get a new one and see if the smoke unit board can get a better seal by tightening the screws more. I just wonder if the board is warped.
How much does a union pacific model like this cost in dollars? And how much have you invested in the layout till now.
Norm is there a site you go to to buy your electronic circuit boards for you engines. I have an MTH diesel that stop working
I buy my ERR boards from royztrains.com or 3rd Rail.
@@normstrains Thank you
my railroad does not have these funds
Btw, don’t be camera shy. We’d like to SEE who we’re listening to 😊😊😊
I’m too goofy looking 😂
@@normstrains hahahaha. Hardly sir 😃
Why don’t you like your trains to have smoke ?
Did you see the end of the vid?
Run more smoke, no smoke is boring!. Smoke doesn't hurt my weathering one bit.
