Yes, this! I just moved from an old Jet to a Fizzi model over the summer, and the different machines definitely make different noises that take some getting used to to get the fizz right. My only recommendation not mentioned in this video is that a lot of times, quick disconnect couplings can leak, so it's safest to keep the valve on the CO2 tank closed when you're not using the Sodastream, as otherwise you might have a bad day finding out your big tank is prematurely empty.
@@Rain.TideSurf My Jet broke after about 5 years, and that model is apparently is out of production now, so I was just going for a current model that still uses the same tank thread for my CO2 hookup, that's all
Santa brought me a Soda Stream Jet for Christmas. This really helped. Are you able to fix your link for the Soda Stream Hose? I’m looking to get the extras mentioned in your description but I can wait until the hose link is fixed. Thanks 🙏.
I thought about a DrinkMate when I had to replace my old Jet that broke after 5 years, but then ended up going with a Sodastream Fizzi. While I love the idea of being able to carbonate just about anything in the DrinkMate, I found the whole process of putting a special carbonator cap on the bottle and then sliding that onto the machine to be extra mechanical work that's fiddly, and a likely cause of failure after moderate to heavy use. Additionally, I've noticed that a Drinkmate machine requires DrinkMate bottles, so I would have needed to replace all my existing Sodastream bottles, and the Drinkmate ones are harder to find as well as more expensive. But, DrinkMate machines do use the same CO2 tank fitting, so any of the discussion about modding a Sodastream machine would apply the same way to a DrinkMate. I can't offer any firsthand review of the DrinkMate, but I can definitely say that the Fizzi does a much better job carbonating than the Jet on the Sodastream side of things.
My comment was removed by YT for pointing out where the two units are made. Maybe they thought it was racist, but people have the right to know where the products they are purchasing are made.
I don't think the plastic ring/holder for the original CO2 sylinger is functioning as a lock to avoid bigger CO2 sylinders. I think it's there to function as a stabilizer for the cylinder to avoid stress on the gas leading mecanism if the machine is tilted in some way. In Norway we can choose to use either 60 or 130 ltr. gas cylinders. They are original Soda Stream CO2 cylinders. I have the "Jet" model from 2008 and it is still in excelent shape 👍
Agreed, Flightsimmer74. I (still) have an older Jet, and it came with -- and still uses -- a 130L cylinder/carbonator. Same height, just wider. Sodastream discontinued them (at least here in the U.S.A.). My guess is so that they could make even more money out of the price per ounce of the smaller 60L size tank.
Way cool Alex! I think some homemade root beer would be great and then carbonated like that. Also I am going to try seltzer water and see what the fuss is about!

I saw on another video someone suggested to give your closed bottle a gentle shake and open the lid to let the bubbles out, you can repeat the process until your drink is at the desired carbonation that you like
The only problem with connecting the 5lb tank is that the pressure is way higher and eventually might break your machine. That’s why I fill my small tanks from the big one. It’s more work but it will save your machine in the long run.

It depends how much you use it. If you’re making bottles every day, you’ll prob run out of gas on the standard tank in a few weeks. The mod let’s you use a bigger tank=less refills=saving money

Set it on the counter. Drill a hole for the hose to pass through to the bottom cabinet and put the tank I. The cabinet.
Thank you I just learned that you could use a co2 tank. Fabulous info
Did you think about trying other machines like the DrinkMate before buying another Soda Stream Jet

Wow! Great video, dude! Thank you for the cool review!
Could you add an updated link to the hose with the quick adapter please
any comment on the bad review of the sodastream hose? any alternative hoses?
Great unboxing and demonstration. Thanks man.
Very awesome info Alex! Does the Terra Do your tank hook-up set-up as well as the Jet? I am new to SS and just now doing some research on units.
Thank you for your videos. Do you know if these connections would work for A Sodastream Terra (their latest version I think?)?
Alex can you put the quick release on the 5lb CO2 tank and screw the hose into the Sodastream jet instead???
That would be entirely dependent on how the adapter hose you purchase is constructed. Most of them put the quick release at the SodaStream end.
Do you close the Co2 Cylinder off after each use?

I see you did not use a cO2 regulator. Can you tell me why?

Is there a way to bypass the Sodastream all together?
I think the modification is to just help secure the bottle. The piece is easily removed as you showed.

Why don’t you just put a gauge on the tank at that point? Then you know your output and can control it?
