    He's right--this works. I've had my Soda Stream hooked up to a 20 lb. (9kg) tank for ages. A tank refill costs about 25 bucks and lasts about a year, sometimes longer. And I drink a lot of seltzer water. Using their small tanks was costing me at least 30 bucks a month or more.

    i've loved sparkling water Aka:- soda water since i was a kid, i used to make it in the old wire encased soda bottles my dad had for his bar. it was bloody expensive back then and i only ever had it as a treat, then came sodastream in my late teens around the late 70s and it was like i had died and gone to heaven, i have been drinking gobs of soda water ever since, at least a litre a day on average, a lot more in summer ive always filled the bottles of water and prechilled them to almost 0° to absorb as much gas as possible and to turbocharge them when i get the gas up to blowoff i take the whole setup and shake the shit out of it while charging more gas into it to keep it at maximum pressure, shaking it helps to dissolve more gas into the water quickly. i love it at night time or first thing in the morning when ones mouth feels like the bottom of a cockys cage, a good swig of that cleans your mouth out like a scouring pad and it feels like you've just brushed your teeth. ive often thought about putting a large commercial keg bottle hooked up but never bothered because of it being too cumbersome. i never knew these small ones were available but now that you have a workable bottle with the adapter im in.

    I went to an air-gas supplier here in Seattle and it was easy as pie... They sold me a 25# bottle with siphon tube (because you need the liquid at the bottom, not the gas at the top) (though you can also just turn the bottle upside down so liquid is coming out the valve)... Fittings were standard... I chose to recharge the little bottle that comes with the Drinkmate and NOT direct supply from the bigger bottle... If you choose to supply from the bigger bottle, you want the gas, not the liquid CO2... Just tell the gas supplier what you're doing and they'll set you up...
    Direct from big bottle... Gas
    Charging little bottle... Liquid
    Turned out to be an easy job... And one more thing... I found that if you charge the water bottle once, take it off and shake it a few seconds, you can charge more CO2 into it... Hope this all helps.

      Good question but unfortunately no answer.

    • @Psi-Storm
      @Psi-Storm 4 года назад +1

      NO! You only want it inverted or with a riser tube, to get liquid CO2 out of the bottle, to fill smaller pressure bottles. For drinks, you want the gas CO2 from the top of the bottle. Filling liquid co2 into those drinking bottles will burst them from over pressure and it's definitely not healthy to try to drink that.

    • @KegLand
      @KegLand  3 года назад +10

      When refilling a soda stream bottle, you need to turn the larger host bottle up side down (if your cylinder does not have a dip tube) to allow the liquid transfer of CO2. When using the freedom one hose, you want just high pressure gas going up to the Soda stream machine and hence why you do not need to turn it upside down.

What one needs to be aware of, the gas is under pressure, going into fittings on the Soda Stream are plastic, and only hand tight. Once the sodastream unit has its small bottle removed, it weighs almost nothing and wants to follow wherever the stiff adapter hose sends it, which is annoying. I routed the hose in a gap between the countertop and a free standing stove, and lived with the unit sitting on an angle rather than take to my top with a hole saw. Eventually I reverted to filling the small cylinders as I'm not willing to butcher my counter top.

What is important is 1st. their equipment needs to be very clean 2nd. your equipment also need to be very clean. (dont use tanks that contain lead in them, usually paintball tanks do have lead) If all equipment is very clean, the CO2 safe to consume. If not, the CO2 is contaminated. Ralph, I came here with the same situation. I just bought a Drinkmate to hook up to my 5 lb CO2 tank. If you look at the Drinkmate directions you can see that it takes standardized 60L and 10L CO2 cylinders, so I am assuming the fitting is also standardized. But my understanding is that SodaStream is not customized cylinders because people buying refills is how they make their money. So I am wondering if the two fittings are the same. Also, I want to find out if the fitting this company uses is different because they are in Australia. I will be happy to update you on info I find, if you still need it, and would appreciate you doing the same, if you don't mind. Thanks.

    Hello, does anyone know what my machine is leaking gas from the top that inserts into the water bottle? I've ordered 2 of these things already.. they both worked for 2 days then they leak from the very tip. It seams as if the part that connects to the soda machine has a spring type of valve pin and that pin keeps getting stuck and doesn't retract.. any recommendation would be appreciated, thank you!

    • @KegLand
      @KegLand  2 года назад

      If this is happening on a regular basis then you might want to look at the source of gas. If you have rust in the gas cylinder or other contamiination this is the most likely cause as this type of contamination gets stuck into the pin. You can take apare the valve and clean this out fairly easily but if you cylinder is dirty inside the issue will keep happening.
