  • In this Amazfit Powerbuds Pro review, I'll have a closer look at these workout/running headphones that chock full of interesting tech; in fact, they are kind of like a true wireless headphones-fitness tracker hybrid.
The buds are not cheap but they sound good and have some features no other buds have, including Cervical Protection that monitors head position and reminds you to straighten your neck every now and then.
    \\details
    Price - $150/£125 (currently)
    Availability - Available now
    Weight - 6.7 g (w/ large ear tip)
    \\features
Exercise Heart Rate Monitoring - PPG optical heart rate sensor (right ear only), Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Pressure sensor
Cervical Spine Posture Reminders - the coolest thing: the Powerbuds Pro checks your head’s angle and can even prompt you to relax your neck when it detects the head to be in a too-steep angle.
Smart Hearing Protection - more on this in the video
Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) up to 40dB - it sounds a lot but it’s actually not that much (a computer humming is 40 dB)
    3-mic Call Noise-reduction - 6 mics altogether
Ambient Sound mode - lets sound through the buds
IP55 dust and water rated - protected against dust and water, you can’t swim in them, though
    \\fit
The Powerbuds Pro comes with 4 sets of ear tips (S-XL). The main unit of the buds is slightly bulky and due to the arm, it’s harder to find the ‘proper’ running headphones fit. The buds will always travel out of the ears a bit but not to a level where they actually fall out. They are generally comfortable to wear but fit differently than truly wireless in-ear headphones such as the Jabra Elite 7 or the Jaybird Vista 2.
    \\sound quality
The independent acoustic module, LCP liquid crystal diaphragm and dome pattern design of the Amazfit PowerBuds Pro provide deeper bass, calmer midrange and clearer treble for superior sound quality.
Buds sound great - music is clear and not muffled at any volume setting. Volume is balanced and the buds’ sound output is also amazing. I found the ‘flat’ EQ setting to be the best - it balances all sound ranges the most optimally.
Hearing health mode - the buds monitor in-ear volume and adjust recommended time to wear them (per week). The louder you listen to music, the less you can wear it. Obvs, it’s all estimates, really.
Motion beat mode - the buds can automatically detect when you run and boost bass! So cool.
    \\ANC
hybrid digital adaptive noise-reduction and passive sound insulation technology - in reality, the buds need to be in place for ANC to work properly. Due to the large form factor, the buds tend to travel out of the ear slightly, reducing passive noise cancellation and also ANC. Different ANC modes didn’t make any difference to me in heavy traffic. The buds and ANC worked well indoors and for non-vigorous activity.
    \\controls
Controls are on the arms and it works okay; ear-proximity sensor is a great addition. Long press cycles ANC/ambient mode. Left and right buds do different things - it takes a while to master.
    \\battery life
9h Earbuds playback time (ANC off)
5h 45m Earbuds playback time (ANC on)
3h 30m Earbuds continuous call time (ANC on)
30h Earbuds + Charging case battery life (ANC off)
19h Earbuds + Charging case battery life (ANC on)
