Quick question, what brand of dust mask were you using?
R-Z Mask amzn.to/2MXaWw3
Add an air intake pipe next time you build your firepit / fireplace
DIY Creators such a diy is worth fit
Next time place concrete, water the concrete and then put painters plastic or better (mil thickness) over it. This keeps the moisture from escaping, way less chance of any cracks due to cure. I just poured 20 yards in my backyard, watered it daily with plastic over it for 3 days, came out perfect.
Looks like a firepit that would be at a million dollar house. Nice.
IGOTAJOP America you’ll be amazed on what millionaires have in there house
Blankets start at $500 just for the bed sheets I work on multimillion houses
Closing on a home amd my wife was bummed that there was no fire pit. This will be perfect! Thank you for what you do sir!
Best project yet!! You killed it on this one glen!
It's crazy how creative you are, whether it be your creations alone or your ideas on how to fix a problem you encounter during your build. Love this channel 😄👍
My dad also found a washing machine drum on the street, so he just made a base for it and we've been using it as a camping fire put for years. The drilled holes on the side really let off a good amount of heat. Your concrete donut looks like it meshes well, cool project.
Shot!! Ms Wilson was right about math after all!!!
Thank you, sir!
I really appreciate your creativity and clarity of explanation of the projects.
Sometimes you can tell a hard working man, just by his craft, this is one of them
Looks great I am from the United Kingdom and watching this has set me a task Thanks.
Keyboard Warrior
Me too!
I really appreciate how you go through the process of your builds and tell us about the problems you find or what you would do different the next time. Many videos skip those parts and I find that they are the details that make or break a project. You use very smart techniques and it helps to see the details of the steps. Awesome work and great videos!
the more I watch your content the more things I wanna do just like you. It makes me more and more confident to do stuff like you. The hat is off sir
Glen, that was super creative and probably equally as heavy 😂😂😂. Great project, brother!
Thanks man, it's around 450lb.
It is he said it was in the neighborhood of 400 to 450 pounds that's pretty heavy
Good shit buddy, like your vids...keep 'em comin'
Burn calory of couse
The aesthetic of the fire pit is just right! 🔥🔥 Still waiting for the One Million Glenn!!
Thanks, It will come in time :)
Glen! You are KILLING it dude! You keep busting out such creative projects. You've got such a creative mind.
Keep doing your thing man I'm in Nigeria my father was killed here and he use to do what you do and see you doing some many creative things man your inspiring me to do his work and do more tnx man love your work like really creative
my man out here mixin concrete in Steve Maddens
@Breeze
He (the content producer), is not the one who had on the Madden's.
If I'm wrong...it's cool. It happens.😊
You are the best DIY artist on RUclips
Just love when I come across something worth watching. Phenomenal work my friend!
Really beautiful. Always concerned about the heat danger of standalone washer drum fire pits. You have solved my concern with this design. Thank you.
Yesterday I was buying a washing machine drum to use as a garden incinerator bin and now I've seen your build haha. Great job my friend
Dang, good idea with the router and whiteboard for a form, I always run into a bunch of problems whenever I try something like this, you have patience plus you knew what you were doing which is the main thing. Very nice job 👍
We have several fire pits for guests, and this looked lovely, but I saw straight away when he had it burning that the fire pit wasn't getting enough air, and as a result the flames were sooty. Probably easily solved by having a tunnel under the concrete ring. Well impressed with the ring itself, and how it looked after so little time setting..
Some washer drums have a balancing medium in the rim. If you don't cut/drill into that part of the drum it can build up pressure and eventually vent violently. Definitely worth checking into. We used washing machine drums in Scouts for burn barrels and learned our lesson after the first one burst.
I bet you can revamp into a water fountain during the summer!!!! Just add 3m and pump with lights!!! Dude I LOVE thiS Idea!! Going to look for a old washer drum myself! Plus you could have mad a mold for future possible give always… I am super down with your idea! Nice brainstorming to get the look you wanted for less!!! You ROCK❤
Beautiful.....useful for sping/summer/fall......fails in winter by leaving feet cold....
Отличная идея! Профессиональное исполнение. Спасибо за видео.
You, sir, inspire me very much!
Another outstanding, genius, amazing work!
The Lord has blessed you immensely with uncanny skills to build random stuff.
I'm a fan and, of course, a subscriber and can't wait to make my own fire pit.
Cheers!
Great idea with the router jig, smart dude. This is a great project it looks really good, it shows an imaginative approach to design .
Thanks, Raynola!
i mean, not exactly a new idea....
For all you DYI players out there, if you're going to dig more than 10 to 12 inches anywhere in your yard by your home or neighbors home... It's a good idea to call 811 before you do. Besides this being the smart thing to do, it's the LAW in most if not all states. Our friend here has a 23 to 24-inch drum and sunk it a bit more than half its depth into the ground. So, he should have and should have thrown this information in his video. Good luck!
Man, you so sharp! I even watched the adverts out of respect! Great project.
You sir are incredible! I'm addicted to your videos lol
Looks real cool however maybe if you casted the concrete mould with some holes made from pvc pipe maybe then the heat buildup would be greatly reduced in the concete mould & hence minimize cracking.
Parabéns pela criatividade. A maneira que você fez a forma para a concretagem. Essa churrasqueira além de bonita. Pode ser reposicionada para outros locais.
Any DIY video that includes PI has my full support :)
Nice job! Construction was done properly, the finish, safe. Amazing!
My partner's recommendation: Install an air intake from the bottom to control the flame.
Fire pits made out of a washer machine drum have been part of my life for decades now. No need for any change in them, just drop them on three bricks. They last 10-15 years each if you enjoy a fire in it every summer nights like we do.
liked this project a lot. If I were to try this I might use foamcrete as it is lighter. But the other thing I definitely would do would be to add a hole for a pole that would allow for a BBQ grill.
This is actually gorgeous. Love everything about it
Congrats on such channel growth Glen. Look forward to the 1M celebration.
Love it! Great moldwork. Mine is always not that great but it gets the job done. Yours is perfect!
You are a genius. Love the work you do and the creative way you think through a project. Thanks for sharing this tip.
8:27 as Jim carrey would say " Like a glove" so satisfying man good job
Great idea!!
We made ours out of an old tractor rim and left over veneer stone from a prior concrete project!
Two things I'd do to get that pit humming. Dig a couple of small channels under the pit on each side so air can be sucked in underneath. I'd use a couple of old barbeque grills to cover the holes so you don't trip into them. That air from underneath will stop it smoking so much out of the top and getting in your face. Also if you want to start it easily and burn it longer, fill the tub with big chunks of firewood, and start a small kindling fire on the top. Put the biggest bits on the bottom. The fire will start quickly and easily on top and will burn down into the pile taking a couple of hours to burn. Any smoke that forms will pass through the hot fire and get burnt rather than coming out the top. As kindling burns down, it will ignite the bottom bigger logs. Once it's roaring, you'll be able to simply drop big logs in from the top into the ember bed.
You’re a genius!!!!!! I binge watch your videos at least once every three months. Lol!!
Getting inside the melamine to screw the big circle together blew my mind- wish I'd have seen this years ago!
It's a few years late, but the reason that wood isn't lighting well, is the lack of air holes.
Solution 1: place pipes periodically throughout the concrete.
Solution 2: rather than concrete throughout, use engineering bricks cut in half, with the pocket side facing in, then concrete around them. Then you create vertical air channels.
Solution 3: Mix of S1 and S2, with large pipes around the base, but then you can have the flush concrete finish on top. Air gets in to the bottom (really important) and can access the sides.
That's some seriously wet concrete
The powder he added is what is known as a "water reducer" it allows you to pour a very wet concrete mix without diminishing it's strength. However, it also cures the concrete very, very fast.
It did look a little watery
we can see concrete segregation
Yes it is. That flow control was not necessary with the amount of water they used. You can clearly see the segregation when he pours the first bucket and that highly affects the concrete strength.
My brain got confused by all the water and segregation :s
- Former concrete worker 😂
Despite of the weight, concrete is good subject for fire stuff. Its good you made it round.
👍👍👍
I’m not gonna lie I spend my day watching ur video I’m addicted 😩😩😩😩
One of the most creative guys on the Internet
That gig idea was absolute genius! Never seen that before on any other diy you tubers
Genius! Thank you - I'd searched everywhere to figure out how to pour a simple concrete ring.
Nice quick tip with the holesaw and the router. And the finished fire pit looks amazing!
Nice Job, very creative. We love working with Rapid Set products. We use all of them for various things in our work.
OMG. I am 60 years old and this is the first time I've ever seen anyone use Pi.
Great ingenuity. Very nice end result. Good job!
Thank you, I appreciate it!
This is awesome - while not a fan of the design - one man's trash another man's firepit! Good job there man, and don't listen to them. You did a good thing sticking that mesh in the concrete
Adding the drum was so satisfying 8:22
Try soaking your corn in water for 30 minutes before throwing them on the grill, this'll help keep the husks from burning off.
Looks beautiful, very modern and contemporary
from concrete to video games this was a very cool twist be honest I didn't expect it !!!!! 😯
I also used a washer drum to make a fire pit just not so elaborate great Idea mine is just the drum buried with a gravel surround and a trench underneath for drainage and air
I have something basically like this only it sits on 4 legs making it portable. You could make a surround to drop it into if you'd like and then remove it or just let it be portable. The bottom is an old steel washer drum and the center spindle is cut out leaving a hole in the very center about as large as a 20oz bottle. The airflow thru this hole and the side and surround holes allows it to breathe very well. The hole in the center and being raised on the legs allows for ashes to fall out. We just place concrete blocks around it and they hold any ashes. When you want it some place else you pick it up (when it's cooled of course) and just move it where you want and place the 8 inch concrete blocks around it again and you have a new spot. PLUS being built this way allows the metal to capture and radiate heat so this makes it an actual body core heat source in the cool/cold weather. Plus it's an enclosed fire with a screen on top. I have 2 of these..one at home and one I take camping. And it makes a GOOD bit of heat.
This is one we burned all the way up over the years...lol. Still I have the newer ones designed the same way. This old one is about 25 years old at least at the time this picture was taken.

Even if you didn’t get the effect you wanted it looks really interesting! It’s very clean and modern.
Really cool and creative. Like the contrast of the black next to the white.
I've watched several videos on your channel and you are without a doubt one of the best at explaining to beginners like me not to mention the great ideas you come up with. Great channel and I intend to make a few of the projects you've shown us including this one. I do have one question, about how heavy is this fire pit when completed? I'd like to add this to my deck and wanted to make sure it's not too heavy. I appreciate your channel a ton! Thanks! Edit: nevermind... I see you give the weight later in the video. I got ahead of myself.
That’s an awesome looking firepit! Wow
Thanks Tamar!
I'm curious to know why you need the washing machine inner, when you've gone to such lengths to build that beautiful concrete circle. I'm an aussie and out here we just fly with the machine inner by itself, breaths really good and whacks out the heat! 😉
Merto The 1st.
Concrete does not mix well when combined with repeated exposure to high heats. This can lead to cracks and explosion of the concrete. Usually metal or firebrick are laid between the flame and the concrete itself.
That fire pit is nuts! Very cool, man!
Well done Glenn, I had my doubts but I am happy these were mislaid. I can't wait to try this one myself.
We took a washing machine drum fire pit to the beach while group camping. Ours had a upside down looking funnel style chimney. Once the fire started it would howl from the air being drawn through the holes. It would glow red and acted like a furnace. Once started any drift wood or wet wood would burn without problem. Good times and melted shoes if you were not careful.😁
Nice project man! Concrete projects are always fun to watch, especially when there's a fire involved!
Very cool, nice job. You would never know it was a washing machine drum. Love it!!
Great now you are gonna have me scrapping alleys for a drum 😂
WOW....could never make this.....don;t have the tools.....but CLEVER!!!!!
Hey don't ever stop making these great videos
Your videos are amazing. Well explained, not overly complicated and great diy projects in the end!!
BY THE POWER OF LEVERAGE!!! Great end result bud.
You lost me at pie... 🤤🥟
That looked great on its side too ..ornamental feature, one large offset with one smaller or even made into a water feature. Super project.
It's a great idea but you need feed air. That will also keep the concrete cooler.
A word of warning some wash tubs have a ring of lead in the very top inside . this can liquefy and pressurize and shoot out molten lead . just drill some holes in the top rim to check and keep the pressure from building if there is . love the fire pit btw
Going to make this project over a refractory cement base on a deck and add electrical conduit around the near-bottom of the mold to increase airflow. Thank you.
I love Rapid Set products, especially 'cement all'. Higher cost compared to regular old concrete, but WELL worth it for a superior product in every way.
Once I started using it for our ornamental concrete production? I never went back.
That was a really clever use for that drum, Glen. Well done
Holy smoke! What an amazing project. Incredible!
I been using one of these about 10yrs the best fires in the world
Smart way to make molds. If you use epic cement or aircrete it would be a lot lighter.
You have to put tiny stones below the firepit for drainage, otherwise the concrete will get cracks sooner rather than later. Besides that small detail your firepit came out awesome. good job
im trying to build my own pond and you have given me the best solution ever :0 using these thin white boards for a cylindrical mold. problem solved! :D amazing, thanks!
If you fill the barrel with sand first that should prevent the cracking or just remove the barrel all together because the metal radiates more heat. They have concrete fire pits at the beach and they have sand all you do is scoop out the burnt stuff. With Sand only and no barrel there won't be heat emitting into the cooncrete
You would have an easier time lighting your fire in a concrete form if you put some breather holes in the form towards the bottom. You can use your mesh to ensure no large coals can escape the form, but this would allow air to flow through to the wood down in the main cavity.
Officially one of my favorite channels now. Enjoying the creativity !
I love the look of your fire pit...... had no idea it was a washing machine drum.... form the picture.
I've had a fire pit for a few years now, and had a multifuel stove in my last house and found the quickest way of lighting wood is to chop a log into kindling, or chop up some off cuts into strips of similar size to the kindling. You'll find any type of pine / spruce perfect for starting your fire pit.... but add hard woods like Oak, Ash Elm etc that burn a lot slower to keep the first going! and any coal as the main bulk of the fire (thats if your pit can handle it) - good luck!
You should make a vent going underground to the pit and out somwhere close to make it easier to light!
Great minds think alike! The tub is perforated, it just needs a ring void going around it with a couple air vents thru the concrete form. Maybe make some plugs to control how many of the vents are open at a time, idk.
I love your videos. When I saw that in dis DIY you made it with RapidSet I was so happy! My cousin works for that company. They are awesome! Great video as always!
I have a washer drum pit also, however I left the uncovered spewing the fire to create its own vortex of pulling cool air in to feed the fire and keep it HOT. Overall this was a great video and sleek design
Nice job. Glad the video was still available
One thing the drum does is it should make the fire pit much more smokeless, would love to see a side by side. But if there is enough space between wall and drum it should be great.
