  • Today replaced the wheels on a mower I inherited from my neighbor. This is a Honda GCV160 and it looks looks like he did burn-outs in his driveway. I was able to order 4 new wheels for about $60. The process was pretty simple, you just need to make sure you order the right size and be prepared to do some clean-up.

    Actual wheel changing starts around 6:10 or so for those who maybe in a rush or something. Great video mate, appreciate the knowledge.

    I’ve had the same mower for 3 years...and the wheels are damn near smooth from only running them on 99 percent grass, and a little bit of concrete (sidewalks and the garage floor). This video will be helpful. Thanks, sir.

    Great video! Problem I have after changing out the wheels a couple of times, this time having trouble with one wheel. The bolt is on so well I cannot get it lose. I have tried WD40. Any suggestions will be helpful. Do not want to strip this bolt. The rear tires for us have worn as bad as in the video.

      @TheLawnShark  16 дней назад

      The only suggest I have is to heat the bolt, but with plastic wheels that may be a bad idea.

      @@TheLawnShark I think that might be something to try. I had thought about it but not tried. The plastic wheel are worn to almost nothing similar to what you had in the video.

    The wheels end up looking like that after a couple years because when you use the clutch on the lawn mower it scrapes the tire on the concrete and overtime it just goes away

    I have the very same mower and worn wheels just like that. Mine wore out just cutting grass. Lousy wheel material!! ... Good vid! I've ordered replacements too - thanks much for showing the part numbers so clearly on the new wheel wrappings. Sure doesn't look like the new wheels have much tread either...

    • @TheLawnShark
      @TheLawnShark  4 года назад

      I was surprised by how bad the material was. I have two Honda mowers that are slightly different models and the wheels are completely different sizes. I was glad I didn't order the same wheels for both.

      Dang! That is harsh, but that's how it was when we lived in Denver. It would snow in the morning and 70 in the afternoon. Crazy stuff.

    So how are the replacement wheels doing now? The original wheel design is notorious for wearing quickly, especially the drive wheels in the rear. There are many retread videos to alleviate the quick wearing of the hard rubber/plastic wheels. Looks like the replacement wheels you used are for later HRR216 models (2018 and later), hence the color and tread difference.

      I actually sold this mower a year later, but they looked really good while I still owned it.

    Front wheel's bolt (wheel 9:47) fallen out after a few feet of cutting. If you tighten the bolt too much the wheel won't turn.
    Applied high strength Loctite on thread. Still the bolt walks out. Threads are not stripped on both sides. What is the fix?
    HRR2166VKA's front wheel has no bearing. Just a washer & bolt holding wheel. Threads are good.
    Too tight on the bolt, wheel won't turn.
    Loose, wheel wobble & then later fall out.
    Bolt length thread can not be lengthen or able to buy

    • @TheLawnShark
      @TheLawnShark  Год назад

      The bolt should tighten down all the way and the wheel should roll freely. Are you missing a washer? Is it the right wheel? Lot's of variables without actually looking at it. Sorry.

    • @angelisone
      @angelisone Год назад

      @@TheLawnShark Again & has stated there are bolts & washers on both front wheels.
      Tighten down WILL NOT turn the wheel if loose wheel (bolt) will fall out (one or both wheels).
      Opposite of on problem of rear wheel locked up when pulling it backward.

    GCV 160 is the engine model, not the mower model. That’s most likely a HRR216

      @TheLawnShark  Год назад

      Thanks for the correction. Thankfully I was able to order the correct wheels off of the engine and it still worked. So, I guess you can order parts from either number.
