Great reaction. Nice to hear someone with musical knowledge analyze one of Nightwish's songs. You mentioned that you were into Pink Floyd. If so, you might want to take a look at Nightwish's tribute to Pink Floyd's "High Hopes" live from the End of an Era DVD. One great band paying tribute to another. It features Marko on lead vocals, which should also interest you, and magnificent guitar work from Emppu.
I concur. 🤘🤘🎸🎸
I Concur
I've been told that is a good one to check out and will likely do it in the next few weeks
@@oldmanmetaldude I haven’t seen some of your other videos. I will definitely check them out. I know you like Marcos Warwick have you seen his double neck guitar I think you will really enjoy that one.
@@oldmanmetaldude Eagerly awaiting ❤
R.I.P Ann Waychoff mother of the Nightwish Army.
June 28th, 2020 .
Ann was a big Nightwish Fan.
And every new person who listened to NW, she went through a little chat.
And gave them some info about NW.
This was her favorite song.
And this song belongs to her.
I like very much that Gabriel have continue Ann s work.... so her heritage is still here.
To Ann ❤🕯
This band are not from this world ,Best LIVE band i have hearth.🤘🤘🤘
Favorite song of the late Ann Waychoff. Mother of the Nightwish Army. 🕯
Inspired by the 19th century 52 chapter poem of the same name by Walt Whitman, one of Tuomas' favorite poets. The studio version, from the Anette era, has a spoken poem section at the end, written by Tuomas in an ode to the original, and was voiced by friends and family of the band. The poem is not played live, but it's words are what you see on the big screen behind the band.
Song #14 in a 15 song set here, right after Ghost Love Score. Yeah, that last delayed hit at the end catches a lot of people off guard on first listen. lol Yes, Troy has played a 2nd guitar at times, with and without EBOW, he also plays pipes, whistles, and bouzouki. He was offstage during this song.
R.I.P Ann❤❤
TO Ann 🕯❤
Yes, Emppu can really play, no doubt about it! If you check High Hopes, you’ll see. 😄 And Marko is a great singer as well.
Oh yes please, react to Nightwishs High Hopes 🔥🤘🫶
Pausing is good and expected, as long as one has something say about the music, and you clearly do. I love time signature changes, and this song is for me heaven. Carry on and if you feel like it, explore more Nightwish, especially the more modern concerts.
That’s why everybody affectionally calls Thomas the metal Mozart. He’s not a composer. He is Mozart.
And he himself said [in one of the earliest documents] he doesn't think himself as a composer but just a songmaker 😁❤️
Tuomas (Too-AH-mas)
First of all you ain't old I grew up with Zeppelin Sabbath Stones Beatles etc been to hundreds of concerts this band is on a different level
Completely agree on Nightwish. I'm 77 and have seen...a lot.
Troy is the band’s multi-instrumentalist, specialising mostly in pipes (especially Uilleann Pipes, a type of bagpipe) but he can play pretty much anything so occasionally will pull guitar duties either alongside Emppu or on his own (including sometimes just him and Floor going acoustic). He doesn’t play on this song though. Marko stepped down for mental-health reasons, has made some great progress since and is back on the road, most recently with former Nightwish lead singer Tarja Turunen. His successor is Jukka “Jukkis” Koskinen who is a great bassist but doesn’t do any vocal work for the band.
FLOORGASM ....
❤❤❤
RIP Ann Waychoff. Never forgotten.
Great reaction, new sub here. The fan created video of the full version with the spoken word section is beautifully done and well worth a watch too.
To Ann 🕯❤
I saw thousands of reactions. I do not understand the complaining about pausing. If i do not like it - i take the original. Pausing is something very personal taste😊. Sorry guys.
I much prefer pausing to talk instead of talking over the video.
Great reaction. Marko’s replacement is also a ban member of winter Sun. He’s an excellent guitarist but unfortunately he doesn’t sing. The multi-instrumentalist Troy does the male singing parts but Troy is no Marko. His voice is softer which suits some of their music but it will mean that a lot of the older numbers won’t be on their playlist anymore. For the moment they arn’t doing any life shows so it’s no problem.
Love your reactions 🤘
Keep on going with NW. You have a lot of concerts to go through, from Wacken 2013 to Hellfest 2022.
RIP Ann.
And there forever remains that change from G to Em
Sometimes e͟v͟e͟r͟y͟t͟h͟i͟n͟g͟ is piano black.
Great reaction!!
Great song!!
Great lyrics!!
🤘🤘🤘
Nice Job buddy!
Just want to point out Floor a bit more.
Whatever guard you have up, when Floor's voice comes in she cut's thru it like a fresh sharpened butcher knife and get's you right into your soul and while your bleeding out you feel satisfied.
Greetings from Germany
She is amazingly talented, no one can deny that
@@oldmanmetaldude I saw her live 1st of june with her solo stuff. Thats not Metal though, but amazing like hell.
Oh! I know exactly what you mean. I feel this same every single time when she sings!
The Nightwish 2013 Wacken concert footage was recorded, produced, and released on DVD/bluray by Nightwish. They hold the copyrights, so may not be blocked by the Wacken concert folks. The full credits are shown after the final song, The Last Ride of the Day, if you are interested. Details should also be available on the web.
No 2 in my favourites list.
Marco is superb - I love his second entry (the rising gliss) so much I extracted it and have it as my ringtone.
Favourite parts:
Piano Black , and particularly the best description of depression I've heard - "sometimes the within is piano black". Piano black - that deep glossy black that almost evades the eye.
Emppu holding that long note one-handed as he drinks a Corona.
The unexpected pauses (rests) towards the end, particularly, in this performance, when Floor turns her hands upwards and the flames seem to come from her palms.
Great chuggy rhythms in the breakdown.
Little pizzicato string sections in the run-up to that ending.
At the end the lead vocals use the same lyrics as the choir are singing in the earlier parts -
"All that great heart lying still and slowly dying
All that great heart lying still on an angelwing". That lyric is perfect for the staccato rhythm.
...and lots more
A few more comments:
You should watch the following for Marco vocals...
1. High Hopes from Hartwall Arena 2005, the ultimate Marco. You'll love Emppu's guitar in that too
2. While Your Lips are Still Red, Wembley 2015
3. The Islander Tampere 2015
Then for great Floor / Marco combinations...
1. Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean from Buenos Aires 2018, great Marco vocals, phenomenal drums from Kaitsu Hahto who replaced Jukka Nevakainen in 2014
2. Slaying the Dreamer from Buenos Aires 2018
3. Ghost River from this Wacken show
Then there are many others too.
Yes, Nightwish use a click.
Interestingly, though it is rarely commented, Marco also does post-production sound mixing.
My no 1 is The Poet and the Pendulum from Wembley 2015 but you need to wait until you have heard much more Nightwish.
No 3 for me is one of Floor's favourites, 7 Days to the Wolves also from Wembley 2015
I have been taken to task by some in the past for saying Tuomas is a composer not a songwriter😂
Surprised you get blocked and have to stop so much, many reactors play complete songs right through without issues. Maybe you'll get different results with the best two Nightwish concerts, Buenos Aires 2018 and Wembley 2015?
Nightwish Army UK Eastern Division signing out for now...
To Ann ❤🕯
R.I.P Ann we missed you, Mother of the Nightwish family❤
As a drummer myself, l really admire Jukka's work with his china there. ⛄👍
Marko plays double necked warwick as well. That might weight a couple of tons 🙂
Warwicks are notoriously heavy, so I don't doubt that at all
Just subscribed. I’m a 1970 Oklahoma dude. I was a trombone player and I doubt you can name a metal band I don’t know. #1 Led. #2 Megadeth. I’m absolutely obsessed with Nightwish. The compositions of Thuomas is genius. Empu’s tone is perfect for every song. Again, subscription is based on your knowledge of music. Thanks for the reaction.
hi, if you like Marco sing, High Hopes is recommended. it's a tribute to Pink Floyd.
Thanks for this great reaction. I have been loving all of your Nightwish reactions, including the pauses for your explanations and reactions to the various parts of the live performances. Keep them coming. By the way, I recommend that you react to Nightwish's tribute to Pink Floyd's "High Hopes" with Marko on lead vocals while then female lead, Tarja Turunen, was doing a mid-concert costume change. This really shows off Marko's vocals and Empuu's guitar work on this interpretation.
Troy was a visiting member of the band at this concert; later, he became a full member
To put Floor's performance in the right perspective.
Did you know Floor was a stand in at this tour?
Half way this tour The original singer Annette could not continu so they called Floor if she could help them out.
She said yes and only had 48 hours to get there and learn the whole setlist!!!
🤘
Great song from that set of many Great songs. 😁 IF you want more of Marko singing. I recomend the tribute to PF s High Hopes. Greetings from nwAse Sweden
G'day. Like your work mate, but just fyi you really won't have trouble with blocks from Nightwish live. A couple of pauses for copyright is enough. This is one of my favourite of their songs.
I've had issues in the past with any live footage from Wacken over a minute long. They are pretty heavy handed at times with their copyright restrictions
@@oldmanmetaldude I've literally watched thousands of Nightwish reactions, and MANY from this specific Wacken 2013 show. Trust me, you can un-clench, relax a little and you'll be fine. 👍
I think they may have become more strict lately. I saw another poster mention it. You can probably get away with fewer pauses than this, though (not a criticism. Reactors should do as much as they like, as we still have the original). Oddly, it seems to differ from reactor to reactor as I've seen plenty that don't pause at all. I guess there are other factors involved.
@@oldmanmetaldude You can use Nightwish videos but won't let you monetise.
@oldmanmetaldude A Nightwish company holds the copyrights for this Wacken 2013 concert, not the Wacken promoters. So they may be more tolerant.
I am not a guitarist (even though I own a PRS 6 string baritone), so take what I'm about to say in that context. Regarding Empuu and his guitar playing: I have noticed a lot of other metal bands have several guitarists in addition to the bass. I like a lot of them. But I have also noticed that all those guitars can get a bit, how do you say, "noisy?", like they are stepping on each other or are not completely in sync, or something. Also, it seems like sometimes the other guitars don't "make room" for each other when needed. Nightwish has only one "metal" guitarist. I think that fact contributes a lot to their sound. The guitars are always in sync because there is only one, and Empuu automatically makes room for whatever he is playing in the moment because he must. I don't think he gets enough credit for accomplishing all by himself what some other bands need 2 (sometimes 3) guitarists to do.
Troy does sometimes contribute on guitar, but I don't he does at all for the entire Wacken 2013 show. He is only on stage for a few songs. He contributes more on subsequent albums and tours, but most always in a rhythm capacity pretty far back in the mix, just adding that little extra bit of ambience. A lot of times those contributions are a more folky instrument called a Bouzouki. A couple of notable exceptions are at the Wembley 2015 show. On two songs, "While Your Lips are Still Red" and "The Greatest Show on Earth" he plays a PRS 6 string with an eBow. Absolutely fantastic. I didn't know what it was he was doing at first. I loved the sound it made. I had to research it. It was those performances that made me purchase my own eBow. Good thing it wasn't too expensive. It was immediately apparent that it would take _a lot_ of practice for me to make anything close to music with it. So, as usual, Troy takes something that is hard to play and even harder to master and makes it look easy.

This is your song.
If you ever have to explain the Groove in Metal to someone - play this tune.
Until the Breakdown hits you with a 10 ton hammer it is all fun and games.
But then the slow chugging monster with the machine gun riffing takes over.
And for every Metal Head this lights up the day.
Awesome….Imho one of the best songs ever.
Sometimes the sky is piano black….
Floor Jansen, First of Her Name, Queen of the Valkyries and Stonehenge, Lady of Nightwish and Protector of our Metal Realm. Long may she reign. Bow, mortal !
Yes it was! To Ann 🕯❤
❤❤❤
Pause as much as you need to/want to. We all know where the full version is.
❤❤❤🇫🇮👏
👍👍🇳🇱🤘🤘🎶🎤🎸💕👏👏
This is a good GuitarMania interview with Tuomas about his songwriting process and background in music :) He actually has less formal training than you think, he went to basic music school until he was 16. Tuomas writes all of the music, but the final bit of orchestration arrangement is done by Pip Williams. ruclips.net/video/49L6WqxBE98/видео.html
No worries. Most reactors miss Floor's growls in that song. She is mixed as a support to Marko's lead during the chorus. Great commentary OMMD. No worries about the pauses. Troy, the Brit in the band was a guest on this Wacken show. He only played on a couple songs. Now he is a permanent member in Nightwish. Most Nightwish live songs are done with a click. This is the only way yo sync with the orchestral and choir backing tracks. I think you would love this one from a couple years back. New bassist. Troy is also in this one.

there are more power women like floor in the Netherlands [ EPICA] WITHIN TEMPTATION ] AYREON ]. ENZO
I could see you really wanted to pause again , yes a little to much .
I've had issues in the past with any live footage from Wacken over a minute long. They are pretty heavy handed at times with their copyright restrictions
@@oldmanmetaldude Well then say that before you start the video , so your audience can understand why your pausing so much .
Dude, to much talk!
Great song way too many pauses though
Why does he pause so much?! And for long periods
If you would like to see how good Marko's vocals are, check out Nightwish's tribute to Pink Floyd covering their song High Hopes. AMAZING you won't be disappointed.
I just recorded it and it is on my patreon now. will be on YT sometime in the future
