- This video talks about proper posture in the upper body. Rounded shoulders lead to an inefficient arm swing that can impair breathing and put extra strain on joints. There are some telltale signs that indicate rounded shoulders.
1. Your head is tipped down and your view is mostly of the ground in front of you;
2. The knuckles of your hands are facing up instead of to the side; and
3. Your arms swing side-to-side instead of front to back.
I offer several videos to strengthen your shoulders to avoid this problem, but one easy way to make sure you are consistently walking with your thumbs up and not your knuckles is to carry empty paper rolls in your hands. By clasping this lightweight item, you should automatically turn your hands in the correct direction in order to avoid rounded shoulders.
