I remember reading an interview with Bill Russell; he talked about his love and respect for Jerry West. After the Celtics beat the Lakers in the finals one year, maybe it was Russell's last year as a player, Russell consoled West after the game.

Jerry West was an underrated athlete. Mr clutch could easily touch the top the square above the hoop when he played, he was quick as a cat, the Logo was fast, and jerry had a high Bball IQ that allowed him to play a couple moves ahead of other players. Combine his athletic ability with is true height of over 6'4' barefoot and you had a player that was good inside like he was outside, was a good rebounder for a guard, and Jerry West was ademon in the passing lanes on defense and always was threat to steal the ball.

Dan has always been incredible and one of my favorite sports personal. One of my favorite things he does when he interviews, he listens to his guest. He asked questions based on what the guest talks about it. It’s truly incredible. For example, when he talks about what Bill wrote Jerry about being happy. Not many people when catch that and talk more about it. Most interviewers have a set of questions to talk about it kind of boring. Dan is one of a kind.

Love Jerry West. Even though he was far before my time, even as a kid I was able to learn about his impact in the game and of course being a fan of the Lakers going back to the Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant days, I realized how important he was to the decision making within the organization that propelled them to compete for and win championships. Much respect always to the great Mr. Jerry West.

I am a diehard LA Lakers fan going back to the 1960s. The year 1969 when the Celtics beat the Lakers in the finals was particularly painful and frustrating for me. In the end Bill Russell always ended up winning. It makes me wonder if Bill Russell decided to play 14 or more years that he would have won more championships. Bill Russell deserves credit for all his accomplishments.

"Mr Outside" was Jerry West and "Mr Inside" was Elgin Baylor on those outstanding Lakers teams that lost 6 times to the Celtics in the '60s. To be honest, those Celtics teams had a number of HOF players including the most important player in Bill Russell but they were a loaded team with a lot more than Russell including Bob Cousy, Tom Heinson, Satch Sanders, Sam Jones, John Havlicek, etc... The Lakers had nowhere near the talent the Celtics did. Russell was the center piece and without Russell the Celtics might not have won any chips.
