    Having spent more time with the Steam Deck I will say that it's nice being able to take advantage of the PC settings available in the few Sony first party games I've played on it versus the usually relatively generic settings on the console versions. Being able to widen the FOV in Days Gone for example was a pretty big help when playing it on the Deck's smaller screen. It's early days and I'm not saying I'll abandon my PS5 completely but I haven't fired it up once since getting my Deck two weeks ago. I doubt it will end up collecting as much dust as my Switch does, but the Deck is quickly climbing my list of personal favorite gaming hardware. Cheers

      That's another good point! I love my ultrawide monitor but it'd be nice if I could get at least some PS5 games to take advantage of a resolution like that. But yeah, I'm not abandoning my PS5 either, particularly for REALLY long games where I want the most comfortable experience or those Dualsense features ya know? Certainly edging closer to my favorite portable!

    I own a Steam Deck and it has gotten me back in gaming. While I don't think the first generation will take people away from the PS5 or X1, I do think the next generation or possibly the third gen will be make people consider it as an alternative platform. At that point Zen4 and RDNA3 will be available to market. If Steam Deck can get most modern titles at the 1080p/60 frames performance at 15w then that's when you will the deck take off.

    • @YourPlayer2
      @YourPlayer2  2 года назад +1

      I'm glad to hear it! Personally I just love that in addition to a lot of modern titles I can emulate just about every console from my youth comfortably up until around the PS3 era. I can't wait to see what its successor will look like!

    • @chrits3396
      @chrits3396 Год назад

      @@BenDover-td9hv that's a good question. I own the 256 gb model and already need to reallocate space to my SD card. The storage speed for SD is really slow. It's actually faster if I were save the games on a shared network drive. Of course I won't be able to play those games outside my main network so I keep those games on my SD card. I could upgrade my SSD which isn't a problem for me since I've repair computers in past.
      So to answer your question, I personally would have still made the same decision of getting the 256 gb model. However for someone who own a bunch of games on Steam and is kind of weary of repair damage, I would probably recommend getting the 512 gb. If you are confident in opening up your Deck and don't care about the etched glass, then you might want to get 64gb model and purchase a 512 gb or even higher capacity SSD.

    one major thing i think you left out was the switch to desktop mode. by holding the power button and "switching to desktop mode" you can turn the steamdeck into a fully working linux computer. I've barely touched my PS5 since launch for various reasons but the deck has got me gaming again. I have used it daily since the beginning of March. It's also stopped me from using either of me gaming PCs, which have only been switched on to keep them updated from time to time since receiving the deck.
    One thing you did miss is that you can suspend/resume in much the same way as PS5 on Steam Deck too and while there were audio bugs on some games at launch, they seem to have been sorted in my experience.

    • @YourPlayer2
      @YourPlayer2  2 года назад

      Same here save for exclusives or the games I really want to collect physically. Glad to hear you're having a good experience with the Deck and if you have any recommendations please let me know! As for the suspend/resume I really should've expanded on that more or maybe axed it entirely even because it DOES seem to be better for the most part. Although I will say last night I had a weird issue where after I woke it up with no game selected it just started rapid-scrolling through my library for some reason? That was new.

  • @danbooke2001
    @danbooke2001 2 года назад +7

    My big issue with the SD is I can’t just jump into any game. 90% of my library is unplayable. Like right now, Valve says Batman Arkham Asylum is playable, but I can’t get it to boot at all. I’ve tried Proton Experimental and about 5 different versions of Proton GE and it just won’t boot. Even if I could get it to boot, controller functionality is an entirely other issue. A good example here is Assassin’s Creed 1. I finally got it to boot and can get to the options screen, but there is no “Xbox controller” option despite everywhere I am reading on the internet telling me exactly where it is in the options. IT ISN’T THERE, THE OPTION DOESN’T EXIST. Yet everyone says it’s there… At the end of the day, I was so excited to get this thing, but even on verified games I have to spend time remapping or rebinding controller layouts, fiddling with the best settings to prolong battery life (which is absolutely awful by the way), or dealing with random issues like it shutting off for no reason. It’s no wonder I never got into PC gaming, I want to game, not figure out how to get my game to run.

And yeah I have tried reinstalling them, resetting my deck to factory settings, and even re-imaging it per supports instructions. Out of the additional 223 games that I have that say 'playable' or 'unsupported', again, about 90% of them won't load or get past a launcher screen after clicking play, next, okay, or whatever game specific prompt I get to continue. I've tried internal memory installation and SD card installations and nada. Steam support has been helping the last week and a half, but at this point I just want it exchanged at very least already.

    I think Steam Deck is better because it is portable unlike Sony who refuses to service the handheld market who wants a new PlayStation Portable all because they fucked up with the Vita. Instead of learning a lesson and making a better handheld, they blamed the market and quit the handheld business. Remote play will never replace playing the game on the go natively as it doesn't rely on internet connections which are very unstable in a lot of countries. I was a PlayStation fan but under Jim Ryan, they have been making really stupid business decisions which really turned me away from PlayStation nowadays.

      I only use open platforms anymore for this reason, because I don't get rid of my old games, I replay them frequently. Been playing old favorites of mine like Re-Volt and Freedom Force on the Steam Deck, I can also emulate all my old console games on it as well. I play my old NDS and Java phone games on my Android phone. This has too much value for me to give it up for any closed platform, there is no guarantee that PS5 games will work on PS6 nor that there will ever be a good emulator for it. For example, I was very disappointed Wii U purchases wouldn't be playable on the Switch. I say no to the walled garden/closed platform life :)
      Before the Deck I was playing PC games portably on my GPD Win and now I can play the same library on the Deck even though it's two different companies who made two very different devices. Until one has played on a console where your games are locked you may not even realize how good this is

    I prefer the comfort of the Steam Deck controls over the PS5 dual sense. But that's just me personally. For some reason, after an hour or two of playing with the dual sense, my hands start to fall asleep, and have that painful tingling sensation. I never get that with the Steam Deck. I don't get that either with the Xbox controller. Something about the Dual sense curvature just triggers it for me over time.

    In my opinion, another big thing in favor of the steam deck is the price. Currently, there are 3 variations with the bottom tier at $400 (which I wouldn't recommend getting) and the mid-tier at $550. Even though it is 50 bucks more games not only go on crazy sales (like 85% off of AAA games) but you don't have to pay those stupid online fees, which is a God send. On the other hand, Ps5 games cost 70$ and rarely go on sale and you have to pay 10$ a month just to play with your friends. Which I personally find soooooo annoying. Another thing that I really enjoy about the SD is the fact that you play Xbox, PC, and PlayStation games all in one place. While not all of them are there or even work, most do. If you don't mind the kind of significant performance hit and really aren't just chasing after those Sony exclusives the SD is really a great choice and is one of the best values in gaming hands down. For the record, I own all three, so I am on no one's side here. Thanks for reading this all the way through and have a great day!

    I created the best of both world. Due to the limited battery life on the Steam deck I mostly use it with a dock and hub connected to my monitor. I buy my PlayStation exclusives on the Steam deck for PC, and I use the Duel Sense 5 controller as the only controller on steam deck. Not only for the haptic feedback but also because the Touch Pad on the PS5 controller controls the mouse courser like the touch pad on the steam deck so, The Duel Sense is the best controller to give you all of the Steam control options even in Desk top mode the touch pad controls the mouse it's so cool.

    I don't really agree on the first point, the pick up and play factor. The disadvantages you named for the steam deck really only come into play when you consciously start digging into what it can do outside of the default steam environment. By default, you just end up on a list of games, you pick one and it starts, same as PS5. Actually I often just set the steam deck to standby with a game running, and it would have me back in the game within seconds. Combine this with the fact that when you grab the steam deck that's really all you need and you can play wherever you want, I would actually give the nod to the deck here, although the difference is small. For the PS5 it's not much different, but the TV and receiver (in my case) need to turn on, they need to not be in use, you're tied to the same spot in the house to use them... As I said, small difference, but the deck won out for me.
    Although I also have to say... I actually ended up selling my Steam Deck. I loved the device, but... I found out after a few months it was mostly sitting in the cupboard and I found myself having to take care that I didn't put it away on standby and have the battery run out. In the end, since right now it's still easy to sell them for new price, I decided to do that. I have too many systems and not enough scenarios where I really needed a portable system. Besides, maybe my Switch will get some love again (it was completely unused since the Steam Deck arrived).

That's why I didn't really do some technical deep dive on graphical prowess or anything, but rather covered practical differences between the two of them that lead me to prefer one to another at any given moment- PARTICULARLY for multiplatform releases where I want to get the best experience based on the game.

    Just to be clear (English is not my first language) the only reason I’m watching this is because I don’t feel like playing in my ps5 all the time. Having another kind of responsibilities had me grabbing my switch lite and play before going to sleep.
    I’ve been trying to know more about steam deck and it’s getting more and more interesting every single day.
    I’ll say that if you’re someone that can’t play that much but enjoys playing an hour or two before going to bed, steam deck would be a better choice.
    But for those that like to play or they do playing for a living ps5 is way much better for them.

    One of the things I’m looking forward too when I snag the Deck later this month, is the better graphics, prices, DLC options, and availability of games.
    Case in point, BSG Deadlock. Nintendo has the vanilla game and that’s it… no updates, no modern Battlestar DLC. Nothing. All the others have it.
    What I’m apprehensive about is the lifecycle. I know towards the end of the XBX/PS5 lifecycle, they’ll still be able to run new games relatively well while still looking g good. However, I also know from my PC gaming days , that in about 4-6 years, the hardware will not support the newest games that well, with it being completely unable to support the more power hungry games, (Elden Rings, GRAs, etc) at all.

      Not familiar with BSG Deadlock so I'll have to look it up but that's a bummer for Nintendo fans.

      By default, the Steam Deck converts all your controllers to Xinput. Dualsense-specific features only work if the game recognizes that you're using a Dualsense controller, but it thinks you're using an Xbox controller
      On Windows, you have to disable Steam Input in your controller options so that Steam doesn't tell games that you're using an Xbox controller instead of a Dualsense. From what I can tell this is not (yet) possible in Game Mode on the Steam Deck OS, so you would need to play your games in desktop mode

      RIGHT? I know it's not native or anything but using Remote Play to get it on the Deck is SOMETHING at least. Still holding out hope that they'll announce a remake/remaster of the original or a sequel but I'm not holding my breath either 🤡

      Most definitely! Usually I drop videos on Tuesdays and Thursdays and have them scheduled out a few weeks in advance but since I got the virus last month I was out of commission for a few weeks unfortunately.

    Both different systems dude

    • @YourPlayer2
      @YourPlayer2  2 года назад

      Most certainly! That's why I wanted to look at those differences because I tend to think through a lot of different factors when I'm looking to buy a new game that releases on multiple platforms. Sometimes the PS5 wins out because I LOVE the Dualsense controller, but then sometimes a crazy good sale on PC or a genre well lent to the portable format like a visual novel might have me look more at the Steam Deck ya know?

    For $650 you get.... UNLIMITED POWAH!
    for the price of the ps5... You get.......
    Some games....? I guess...? Lol
    (I say that Cuz most games that get released are like one level you get to play and for 60 more you get to BUY the rest of it.
    So... There is that..... I guess.

    You compare steam deck to switch then there’s no way to compare it with next gen hardware like ps5.

    • @YourPlayer2
      @YourPlayer2  9 месяцев назад

      Well you CAN compare them, just more so on the basis of use case/form factors than graphical prowess as the PS5 should pretty handily win that battle every time :p
