This is why E-mails and videos, especially cell phone videos, are so helpful in court cases. Not only do they help those involved "remember," but they have to "remember" exactly the way it happened. I admit I haven't been following the trial, and it is important to be there to see and hear all the evidence from start to finish. However, just based on the above, I would have advised becoming a government witness, taking the best plea deal I could get, and throwing myself at the mercy of the court. However, attorneys are all about making their money first.
5 years and fired
One question I haven't heard the answer to: Was the victimized cop undercover to catch other cops with wrongdoing or was he there to catch protesters breaking laws? If the original decision to plant him was the latter, then the undercover taking an unexpected beating from fellow officers resulting in their arrests, trial, loss of job, and possible prison sentences has to be considered some pretty serious "unintended consequences". It also backs up what BLM has been saying all along - the only people breaking laws at their protests was law enforcement or others that weren't part of their movement.
According to the Saint Luis Dispatch "Hall had been live-streaming the protest with his cellphone, to help other officers identify vandals and pull them out of the crowd, and to let commanders know where he was." So yes it was the latter, the undercover was there to catch protesters breaking laws.

And so it's okay for cops to beat a cop who hasn't done anything wrong and not resisting arrest, but if a cop storms someone's house in the middle of the night not identifying themselves it's attempted murder when the owner shoots him in the leg.
