- Due to popular demand/mass confusion on how elevators can actually work in Vault 88 - I've put together this short-ish video on how to set them up.

If you want to get rid if the blood stains, take a folder and place it next to the blood and select and deselect it in building mode, works better than abraxo ;)
With the "cage-looking" floor as the top of the elevator, and your added height with ceiling cap, that would be a great place to "seal in" Marcy Long and Jun! :) Just put them in there and leave them, "Cask of Amontillado" style!

probably because the elevators in the vaults such as vault 81 are used to load into the actual vault area

+KIAN the very least they could've done was take the elevators from the Contraptions DLC and made them out of vault pieces rather than scaffolding
Jacob Katz i suppose but idk bethesda are lazy, other wise there wouldnt be so many bugs along with so much lost potential even in the base game.

I'm hoping for a a tour of you final vault soon. You seem to have some pretty nice ideas for this kind of building. I haven't played F4 in a while yet your videos always make me want to create in the Wasteland and try news ideas for settlements.

please do a long descriptive tour of your vault as well as a video on how you built your vault (could be in the same video as the tour) it wold really help me as i agree with your whole theme and i'm taking a lot of inspiration for my builds from you.

Leaving the doorways out is pretty much essential -- you CAN snap them on, but if you do they will block the elevator call button. Also, be aware you should be able to snap an atrium floor piece to the bottom of the elevator, giving the shaft a somewhat neater appearance. :)
Idea- have the elevator lead down into the caves, like use it so your settlers go down it and poof they're in that corridor looking at the vault door. Just a suggestion

hey Mr. Davey, there are corner caps for the vault walls that can be used to make an enclosed shaft if you like
any words, mods, news, etc. on actual settlers using the elevators? That'd be awesome if they did.
You can use atrium walls with inner corners to attach the wall together
i was able to sink the elevator into a floor piece so that there wasnt wire mesh exposing the underneath, build a floor peice on the second floor to clip the elevator to, and the bottom level should sink into to already placed vault floor, takes a bit of fiddling cos it will keep wanting to clip the bottom level of elevator to your floating floor instead of sinking/merging(whateva its called?) into the ground peice, this works with other floors too
+norespawns if you try to place doors directly on the elevators, the doors clip through the elevator call buttons making them impossible to summon.
Yeah you have to do them one tile out

I learned real quick to use jet pack power armor while building. makes it easier to jump around the building and no fall damage.
I ended up ripping out my vault elevator after it kept having the floating buttons glitch.

I have the elevator going down to my generators, makes the industrial style fit better
There's an easier and optional way, I put my elevator to the side of my atrium itself and built the walkways next to the elevator. Then proceded to put backwards facing atrium walls round it, to the inhabitants it just looks like a wall from the other side. One minor issue is with there being no elevator door, the switch is so far to the right you can't put a door column there without hiding away the switch. minor problem.
Power comes from the vault, have some conduits connect to it and your good to go. FYI you can use the "Barn" or Institute pieces to cap the top off, so you have a nice sealed vault.
what institute pieces? do you get build pieces if you side with them?

nah because those would be boring videos. "how to build this room with different wallpaper than last time" - there's only so many videos you can make on Vaults. Plus I want to start other settlements soon.

That's the main problem with a 4 storey elevator. The buttons don't dissapear, they fly upwards. Try and avoid using the 4 storey ones until they get patched

what i did was on the bottom floor with the power part i put a window over it and attach power that way.
theres a mod by the maker of soe that ads a institute and vault tec elevator or you could get uso and use a door the they have that i belive thats in slideing and its called vault elevator door or you can have the regular elevator doors
Is it possible to have the elevator on the "inside" or will it just not work at all?
I have elevators all over the inside of my vault. The nature of the vault snapping and power distribution of those pieces makes every elevator technically "outside" the vault. Mine occasionally lose power and have to be selected/deselected to get power going; also happens with my lights some times...and the main elevator from my overseers quarters to my hidden overseers machine shop actually had the floor selection bottoms jump to the top of the elevator so I have to reconstruct the whole thing...
Lights have been glitchy for ages (if not from the start), you'd think they'd stick a team on just figuring out the debug for that issue but apparently it's not a priority for Bethesda :-/
Glitches have never been an issue for Bethesda
Even better add an end cap to the core door, and it will snap, and then you can add a door making it look like a "real elevator" or as close to one as possible

Does anyone else have a problem with elevators???? Every time I put one in a settlement the buttons for the elevator just randomly go up into the sky??? making them useless.

The ones like the Arena and the giant Sanctuary? they get really laggy. The settlement size glitch only works so much without completley screwing with your game. But hopefully there is something to do there!

Davey do you ever run into performance issues from using the weapons storing glitch to increase your build space? I'm on ps4 as well and I upped my building cap a few times to finish constructing my vault (it's the first settlement I've really built all the way up) and it feels like I've been having some even worse stuttering and fps drops than usual. I expected to see some drops in the settlement itself because of the high polygon count it has to render but I wasn't sure if it would affect the rest of the game. I was just playing through the mechanists lair and the game really seemed to be struggling to keep up but then again I'm hypersensitive to these things and keep an eye out for them while I'm playing so it may just be the typical performance issues on ps4...the hitches have just seemed a little more frequent since I finished constructing my vault.

You do get that a lot. When building up large settlements the gun glitch is a curse and a saviour. Using it 1-3 times is usually fine, but anymore than that is kinda pushing it. I say this as I did it 7 times in Vault 88, and it is crazy laggy all the damn time.
+Bill Smith do you only experience the lag in your settlements or do you get it throughout the other areas in the game as well? Just don't want to go too crazy with my builds if it's going to cause a lot of issues haha
If your on PC use the glitch as much as you can, if it lags to much just turn your graphics settings down. Unfortunately you can't adjust graphics settings on console therefore the settlement build limit is put in place so that the gaming experience will still be smooth and enjoyable...
+Patty G yeah I'm on console unfortunately I get why the settlement cap is there it's still just a pain in the ass esp in an area like vault 88
+Logan DeFelice Maybe if you space the vault out over a larger area it might be less taxing for hardware, it would mean less to render in one area?

Stockton lives on for me! Spent about an hour and a half following that bastard home after the railroad quest just so he wouldn't get capped by super mutants...

Hey Davey I've been building my vault and ran out of rubber instantly. Where'd you find yours? Was a lot of it shipments or just scraping everything in the vault? Thanks!
Doctors sell shipments of rubber. Try the Doctor in Diamond City and the traveling one.
As of the recent update 1.7 several vendors now sell rubber shipments (100 in a shipment).
Those vendors also sell shipments of steel and wood (250), copper (50), and ceramic (50).
Basically any of the vendors who gained concrete with Wasteland Workshop now have those shipments of rubber, steel, wood, copper, and ceramic as well.
I haven't received 1.7 on either my Xbox or PS4 games!! Shouldn't it be automatic?

I was just going to use the door as a gate into the mayor's house, and have the whole society based around vault tec but without vaults, like they want to be a vault but can't, a knock off, and have vault tec be like God's to them
+Erich Salvesen I guess your thinking of the smaller vault doors? It's a good idea but unfortunately you couldn't do that to the main entryway and the big vault door :( The main entrance is a fixed Bethesda structure...
No. You are thinking of the entrance to vault 88. You don't need it as you can either far travel directly in our use any of the other easier to access entrances.
Go to the concrete tab and fill it with concrete. Problem solved.

There is a mod for vault elevators but they can glitch.

still havent dropped on console??? man they dropped in like a week ago on Pc and we dont even need them we have better ones added with mods..

The stores are cool as fuck, they also snap together perfectly for a long line of different shops!

I don't like that my vault looks so clean, and the elevator is old looking. In your vault it looks fine, cause your settlers just found it and added wasteland stuff in it.
It is a vault being built with construction elevators. It makes sense.

I'm honestly a little bit annoyed that Bethesda didn't make the elevators work more naturally with the vault pieces. Not surprised, but still annoyed. lol

It really bothers me that Bethesda was lazy with designing this DLC. Don't get me wrong, I still love the game, but there's stuff about this DLC that just bothers me even though I try not to let it. There's the obvious things like things in this DLC don't snap correctly, but I've noticed, that there really is no way to build you vault so it's straight. If you really look, the building space makes your vault croaked, and bothers me more than I would like it to b/c I have OCD.
