There is no one singer today able to produce so many colors, so many shades in every single word. Maybe because there is no one singer today able to feel so profoundly these words and love so profoundly this music. Those great verismo singers were able to sing a single "Ah!" in three thousand different ways. And each one had his own very individual personality and unique vocal identity. Scuderi is such a great example.
The greatest rendition of this aria I have ever heard. I hear her for first time. She has erased all other including Milanov and Tebaldi version. Scuderi has singing that is unaffected and goes to the heart. She pierced mine. Brava!
Scuderi's recordings not only show a fine technique, intelligent grasp of the required style, but honesty in her presentation of the situation of each character she portrays. Thank you, Edmund.
@jmccracken1963 Why, thank you! Believe me, it's a pleasure. Since I retired and started this channel, I've had about as much fun posting these old records as anything I've done for a while. Makes a great hobby, doesn't it?
I love her. I had the great fortune to visit with her at the Casa Verdi in 1986. An unforgettable moment, very inspiring, and of course loaded with diva-ness. This excerpt is simply marvelous, so imbued with the style of a bygone era, that we miss.
This is an OUTSTANDING performance of this excerpt!!!! Very well-sung by Sara Scuderi, who had a highly appropriate vocal weight for Maddalena di Coigny, and who sings musically, in tune, with great tone and great feeling for the words. Thank you VERY, VERY much for sharing this gem (and so many other vocal gems, too) with us!!!!!
A beautiful voice whose drama is with dynamics, tonal coloration and word play not hysteria, What an amazing recording - the tears flow as I listen. Thanks again-John
A very fine soprano who was known mainly to record collectors around the world. Her records were also on the cheaper labels which today would appear to be insulting.
THERE ARE NO SOPRANOS TODAY WHO CAN UP TO THIS LEVEL OF SINGING BECAUSE THEY COVER THEIR TONES TO PLEASE THE TEACHERS WHO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE 'ART' OF SINGING WHILE THE AUDIENCE IS PHILISTINE IN THEIR TASTES..
This is most wonderful singing!! :) However the interpretation is soooo strikingly similar to the one of Lina Bruna Rasa (1928) it just can't be a coincidence... Scuderi must have listened to Bruna Rasa a lot and she was smart to do it, since it is definitely the best way one can sing (this aria or anything for that matter).

Listen to Claudia Muzio. She too is great.

Spectacular.
My pleasure, my friend. She was wonderful!

Thank you, my friend. That is a beautifully written comment.
Lovely singer, pity there were so few recordings.
My favourite interpretation of this romanza. Thank you.
Thank you so much for posting this wonderful and rare singer.
Très beau document ...
Merci Edmund ...
This performance may be what gave Tebaldi the courage to sing the ending in chest.
Beautifully-sung!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Thank you 😊
Thank you very much for beatyful posting!Bravo!
A most interesting comment! Thank you for sharing that experience with us!
Magnificent!

I wanted to comment in some same way, and then read your colours, haha, and you took the words right out of my mouth in three thousand ways; Ah!...
Divina.
Una grandissima dimenticata... fu anche una formidabile Tosca

@twlldinbachdel Thank you! Yes, I agree. She was great and deserved more.

Another lovely singer whose career was, I suppose, limited mostly to Italy due to WW II. So little known in North America! Sad!!
!
Why she did retire so early?
Meravigliosa,ma in questa romanza la Callas è insuperabile.
Another Callas widow speaks.
Lei invece è vedovo del suo cervello.@@paragod333
Brava e moderna...un po' corta in alto magari..quanti colori e che pronuncia perfetta..messe di voce...
The coloring of word and phrases was what got to me. Brava Diva!

A beautiful rendition. So, atmospheric, gentle, youthful and full of heart!
Very vivid singing. She colors every word. A true verista.
