When I saw the title of this reaction I said, "Yes. I hope it's the video version." You should really watch that. I think Lionel is one of the best singer/ songwriters of my time, but he didn't write this one. He recreates a song and dance by Fred Astaire in an old movie. In it he literally dances on the ceiling. Both the old version and Lionel's version are a joy to watch.
This is one of the videos that spawned a “making of the video” video, it was that popular and unique.
He did write this one in 1986.
The Fred Astaire movie was “Royal Wedding”! 😊
My mistake. Lionel remade the ceiling dance, but with his own song.
Yep official videos are the best maybe with some kind of watermark to stop it getting pulled for copyright.
Asia & BJ, you’ll love his "Truly", "Say You Say Me" and "Endless Love" (duet with Diana Ross)!!!!
I was so excited to see the title of this - but so sad to see that you only did the lyric version. The video is one of the coolest of the 80's. Lionel and his band literally dance on the ceiling. Would love to see a re-reaction with the actual video. But still love you guys :)
Watching BJ getting into the groove is always hilarious & of course, Asia’s “chair boogie” will always bring a smile to my dial… MUCH LOVE FAMILY 💖🫶🏻💖
Asia, back in the 80's it seemed like every other song on the radio was written by Lionel, whether he was singing or someone else was singing his song. Even when you switch over to a country music channel, there would be Kenny Rogers singing Lionel's music. On the soul channel would be the Commodores singing Lionel's music. And Lionel himself damned near took over the pop stations. Between Lionel, Michael, Prince and George Michael we nearly danced ourselves to death in the 80's. So, as BJ said, Lionel's catalog of music was humongous. He was a major star, not MJ big, but definitely one of the best.🎉🎉🎉❤
Lionel Richey did Funk, blues, rock, blues, Disco. Remember Kool and the Gang?? Oh Ya
Lionel has been a Singing/Songwriting POWERHOUSE, from when he was a Commodore, to a Solo Artist (you react to more of his Music), To helping Co-write the LEGENDARY "We are the World" and he helped Kenny Rogers restart his Career with the song "Lady" (Lionel co-wrote a separate Commodores song by the same name).
Why you can't see the video ? EIGHTIES ARE THE BEST SO MANY HITS it never ends❤. More 80's please. Lionel Richie is a LEGEND and GREAT MAN❤❤❤
Yes Lionel Ritchie's musical catalog is extensive with his time with the Commodores as well as his solo career
You can never help but Love a Great Singer.
Great reaction guys and may I say Asia is looking extra nice with the orange and black on. Those colors look really good on you. One of my favorite Lionel songs is "Penny Lover".
I enjoyed how much you enjoyed this. Lionel Richie is a treasure.
This song and All night long were guaranteed to fill the floor in the clubs in the 80’s …you two are the best looking review couple on YT great appreciation for fantastic music x
My favorite song by him. Just so upbeat and happy. I’ll always associate this song with the ‘86 Mets, as this tune was out during their playoff run.
One of the very best concerts I’ve ever seen was Lionel Ritchie. He was fantastic and had 5,000 people on their feet and dancing. We had front row seats. Before the concert started my sister said she thought we paid too much for the tickets. About half way through, she said we didn’t pay enough!!! LOL. Lionel has a huge catalog of hits, both as a single and as lead singer when he was with the Commodores. Thanks for this reaction. 👏👏❤️🇨🇦
Lionel Ritchie is an American Icon! Amazing performer! I saw him in concert in 1983 - fantastic!! And his opening act was the greatest ever- Ms Tina Turner!❤ ❤
Absolutely & most DEFINITELY one of Lionel Richie’s greatest hits 👍😁. This song was a monster hit worldwide & was massive in the nightclubs when I first began going to them & “getting down” on the dance floor with my friends at the time 🕺🪩💃🏻
So good!
@@AsiaandBJ … This was a true blast from the past & it was always a song that would draw me out to the dance floor like a magnet 🧲 ⚡️🕺
He was also a member of the commodores back in the day! ❤❤
Oh, He'll yes....
More Lionel please
I must say BJ, you have a pretty awesome T Shirt there. It seemed like there was a time when you watched the Grammys and it was : "Lionel Richie, Lionel Richie, Lionel Richie".
I feel like Lionel is truly a good person. He's such a treasure.
All Night Long, Sail On, 2 of my favorites from Lionel Ritchie.
Great song and reaction guys :D One of Lionel's greatest hits.
Classic 80s jam!
This has nods to his earlier hit All Night Long. Both have great videos you have to see and listen to
the video is amazing. early MTV days. one of the first that had the behind the scenes covered. def need to watch it.
You guys made me smile today. Awesome people. Down to earth. I will keep watching.
love your movess BJ!!....great tune from a truly great artist/performer...Lionel Ritchie...feel good factor for sure
You two don't know the word dissapoit whether a week day or weekend you always seem to make my day you guys are incredible 👍
Asia's smile is like unreal gorgeous...
This is one of those fun songs where if your driving or cleaning your house your just belting it out having fun
I recently got reacquainted with epicness of this fabulous jam:)
This was mainstream in Australia at the time, still enjoy hearing it.
80’s for sure and dance was everything… every genre new and old were putting music with a beat .. remixes for dance started in the 80’s … Footloose was a great 80’s movie about the desire to dance
Lionel Richie had so many great hits !
He has sooo many great songs, I think my favorite is "Penny Lover" I sang his song " Say you Say Me" when I was in the 5th grade chorus at a huge event 😊
Love BJ's dancing .. you guys make it so fun to watch :)
And I’m instantly transported to the 80’s 😂❤
When I hear this song, I think “this was his last hit song”
And it makes me sad that we were all denied his genius for the remainder of the 20th Century
The guitarist is Steve Lukather from Toto. Great song!
Go Bj,Go Bj,GoBj!!!!
Much love to ya both. Hope all is well. Glad to see yall ripin it up. Did ya both ever see yourselves making millions of people happy? Love ya both Asia and BJ.
Such a fun 80s song from a legend.
Can't beat a bit of lionel..would love you guys to check out James... "laid" or "say something" brilliant band from early 90s.
I have I’m sorry I had my entire work every black and white dude listening to the song for months about six months ago lol
Lionel Richie, one is the absolute greatest legends of all time
BJ you mentioned funk. Try SOS Band - Just Be Good to Me. Hella funk and that was closer to the era you were thinking around 1981, This one you just reacted to was released in 1986 and the official music video is pretty lit too.
Aw bummer, you guys need to watch the actual video, it really is a fun video to watch, glad you guys loved the song.
Sail on. Another great one I grew up on Lionel Richey. I had hi 78 , I didn't have the 45 , 78 always sounded better for sure
You to watch the actual music video, where they show him dancing on the ceiling, cool video!
❤❤❤❤ooh what a feeling. Yeah.
"Stuck on You" please!!!
Yeah, I have his greatest hits and if you go down the list, you won’t believe how many hits he had. One after another after another after another. Just an amazing artist and writer!
Thanks!
Its feels so good!
Lionel Ritchie is far from underrated. He is one of the biggest selling artists of the 80's and of all time!! He was also Billboard's top selling male artist of 1984. This song was released in the summer of 1986 and reached #2 on the Billboard pop charts. This is not a 70's song.
Wheeee! Flashback Fun! We went out dancing three or four times a week. It was a six or seven hour marathon of constant movement, laughter and fun. I would love to do it all over again. Thanks for this one. I haven’t heard it in a while. 🤟🏼
The MTV video is Awesome watch
Will you please react to Lionel Richie's song "The Only One". This song is so beautiful and Lionel is the best at love songs!
Nice work guys 👍
NEED the Video!! ❤
Asia and BJ, I really enjoy seeing ya'll's reactions! They never fail to bring a smile to my face.😊 And BJ, you're absolutely right, Lionel has a deep catalog of music. Would love to see more reactions to The Commodores and also Lionel's solo career. Love you guys!
😊 thank you
@@AsiaandBJ You're welcome!😊 Also, I attended Tuskegee when The Commodores were there. It's was nothing to see them on the yard or at the Elks Club on fish fry Friday's. They were the house band and Lionel didn't sing then. My wife is from Tuskegee and grew up with Lionel and Ronald LaPread the bass player. Got a chance to hang out with some of them while living in Tuskegee after college. It was really a great time back then. Like one of their songs... " Was Easy As Sunday Morning"🤗
Finally a good one!!! Too bad you didn't use the official video...its fun
Yeahhhhh
You guys are SO cute!!! ☺☺♥
If y'all get a chance I would appreciate seeing a reaction to Sophie B Hawkins -- Damn I Wish I Were Your Lover. Love y'alls reactions to music I grew up with
Nice :)
Thanks for the visit
You won't get it unless you watch the video.
This is an audio reaction. Disappointing, but I understand copyright laws.
🤪
I am so disappointed in this. The song is about the MUSIC VIDEO. It was literally inspired by an old movie. (Which then inspired Breakin' II)
Y'all need to do this again but react to the music video.
I love Lionel (Commodores and solo) but this song is just really bad.
