It's been absolutely fantastic.
I just bought a windy field in Ireland, so it's interesting to see what you are doing with a windy site. I'm putting in willow and I might try a few of the rowan hybrids like Sorbaronia Burka as they produce edible berries and are supposed to be tasty. Do you have any experience with the rowan hybrids?
I've not used them myself, I've plenty of plain old rowan in the shelterbelts though, and one wild service tree that's growing really well.
It's really coming on well. We have found the red stemmed willow to be really slow growing though.
Much slower than other willows I agree. We finally get to cut a decent amount this year though!
Another advantage of using cuttings that size must be that they are less susceptible to vole damage? Just discovered a number of what I believed were established hedge plants, protected by tubes, have been completely chiselled through at or below the surface. Frustrating!
I'm hoping so. We've lose a few trees every winter, but nothing important this last winter, luckily.
