Again, Overkill Unearthed - to me - just may be my favorite thing in metal commentary right now. Banger is the best thing when it comes to record reviews, but the masterpieces that they revisit in their Overkill Rewind videos were giving us their views on our favorites! Now: we get to dissect masterpieces one by one and I couldn’t be clicking on a Banger video faster than I am with Overkill Unearthed. Thank you, Banger, for leading the way in metal reviews!
Martin Popoff I don’t know, you could argue that he had it easier, since Alice in Chains’ legacy created from “Dirt” is legendary, haha. And, I don’t know... your books and various publications that have made the name Martin Popoff one of the metal community’s go-to experts may just speak for itself with any review you do. Looking forward to the next one!
The ONLY bad albums are the ones we don't have anymore! I love that this guy is keeping Type O Negative in our memories as i will always, but i don't like the continued which is better when they all mean something to a lot of us from beginning to end, in my opinion this guy is only wanting recognition from the BEST Band to ever exist! I'm sure Peter would appreciate it and Hate this guy.
One of the most underrated metal albums of all time! The main riff in White Slavery is possibly the darkest, dirgiest, sludgiest riff I've ever heard. It's like they poured 2 parts Black Sabbath, 1 part Candlemass and 1 part Crowbar into a cauldron and stirred for 666 seconds. A little surprised that Martin didn't mention that for a long time Peter didn't speak very highly of the album, maybe in part because he was going through an extremely difficult time in his life when it was being made. Nonetheless, the album is a masterpiece. R.I.P. Green Man
World Coming Down is my favourite album of all time so you can only imagine how happy I was to see this video. Its beautiful and heartbreaking and the riffs are so heavy they're agonizing to listen to in some passages. Peter Steele was truly a one of a kind who sang from the heart, on this record more than any other.
"White Slavery" alone is worth the price of all the records in the world. WCD is a wonderful record, very dark and painful to listen for me. Anyway, I'll leave you with this guy's opinion, which I happen to agree with: "I love WCD because it's so depressive, everytime I listen to it it makes me wanna suicide." by Josh Silver.
Yes! I was looking for just such a comment. For my money, Creepy Green Light is distilled Type O Negative. And distilled things are meant to be savoured & enjoyed, after all
I had the opposite experience with this album that I had with “October Rust”. Every song on October Rust hit me like a ton of bricks the first time I heard it and it instantly became my favorite album. “World Coming Down” seemed a bit too dark and depressing for me at first, but I committed to listen to it over and over again and it quickly became my second favorite album of theirs. Listening to “October Rust” and “World Coming Down” back to back gives you the best of both worlds when it comes to Type O Negative, in my opinion.
So I guess we're just gonna pretend Slow, Deep and Hard doesn't exist? I know it's kinda part Carnivore in sound, but it's very much Type O as well, and a killer debut.
People also tend to forget the least worst of even though it's mostly a compilation album it feature two of my favorite type o songs it's never enough and the masterpiece stay out of my dreams
Thanks, Martin and Banger. It was fascinating to hear excerpts from your conversations with Pete. Would love to see more content that explores the story behind these classic albums. “Everything Dies” always hits me really hard emotionally, and especially now. Take care, y’all.
Love Type O. This is their darkest release for sure both lyrically and musically. To me their best release was October Rust. But this one is a classic for sure. I’d love to see you guys cover albums from Trouble and Ministry.
Josh has mentioned that he thought it was their weakest record but there are some good songs on it. Anesthesia is the fan favorite, of course. I really like Todd's Ship Gods.
Type O Negative has been my favorite band since seeing them open for Motley on the BK tour. I’ve always admired the tongue in cheek aspect of the music, that sly sardonic Peter Steele humor. One of the most endearing traits of theirs is the band’s ability to play covers and make them sound like TON. Case in point: their cover of Paranoid! Also, I have to add that I really dig their Beatles covers - especially when they would do Dear Prudence live!
Thanks for keeping Type O in the conversation. This is not my favorite record in their collection but I still think it's very a good one. White Slavery is particularly powerful and heavy. The record also seems oddly relevant during a pandemic
World Coming Down is probably my favorite Type O album. Bleak, dark, depressing and heavy as can be in many spots. The very end instrumental section of Everything Dies is one of the heaviest weight experiences in music. You can feel the death and mourning and then followed by Lung and the death experience. Powerful!
Incredible album. I remember seeing them in Toronto at The Guvernment on this tour. Still have the shirt. Thanks to Martin for mentioning the opening track. Much like with the "Bad Ground" situation on the absolute fucking masterpiece that was "October Rust", the first track "Skip It" gave me a terrified feeling as I tried the disc out in my 1999 Sony Discman and thought my copy was bad. Still one of my favourite bands, and I can't wait to keep the tradition of listening to "All Hallow's Eve" this October. Check out Kenny and Johnny's band "Silvertomb".
Ive just suscribed for this video, ten years have past since Peter died and you are reviewing this album, gorgeous!!! Not my fav album from one of my favs bands, but cant disagree with your statements, everything dies is raw TON. Great work on this review!
The reason they lost sales was they were forced to focus only on Peter for vocals on releases. All the hits from Bloody Kisses had the dual vocals of Peter and Kenny, and it lost chemistry until they moved to Steamhammer when the Roadrunner contract was up. It's a great album in any case, one of my favorites.
Death and now Type O Negative? You guys are the best and I love this unearthed series you guys should check out DOWN's debut since it's 25th anniversary this year
"pretty similar to each other" - sounds like someone dropped off after World Coming Down! It should be added that Pete Steele said in interview that Michael Jackson's legal representation made sure to take almost all revenue from this release because of the Daytripper medley copyright infraction.
Although I think the host took the subject very lightly, I agree with "The most TON album" part. The most powerful and true of their albums, the most mature I think - far from the hardcore-chaotic debut, enough of dark jokes and sexy winks. This is Type O that i will keep with me forever. And about the Beatles... Peter was educated right when it comes to music - They always said The Beatles and Black Sabbath were the fundamental influence, but there's a lot of Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Sisters of Mercy and many many more. TON feels different because many bands feel like "Hey, let's play metal", while the Type O is a vast pool of inspirations put together, and the gothic gloom and doom is just the outer shell, the cauldron which keeps all those influences well mixed. Shame that many people scoff at the surface and miss the insides, even I had a rough start with them. But once you go black (and rotten green), you never go back.
Type O' Negative is one of my all-time favorite bands! Cool to point out this album! Really underrated in my opinion and actually my favorite! (Bloody Kisses and Life is Killing Me are pretty near by). Thank you Banger!
So happy to see this! My all time favorite band. The sound, the aesthetic, the mood, they're truly in a category all their own. Thank you for doing this. I absolutely ❤ Type O.
I really like the songs on Dead Again but I was kinda disappointed in the drum sound on the record. Johnny's first Type O album playing acoustic drums and he got ripped off.
Excellent video! Discography section: Wish that you would have mentioned Slow, Deep And Hard. That's where it started for me. My buddy bought the CD right after it was released. It's still one of my Top 10 LPs!! Absolutely perfect band. Hail Vinnlandia, RIP Petrus!!!
What do I think of Type O's records? One word: AMAZING. Type O Negative was one of the greatest bands of all time and this album is perfect in my opinion.
I absolutely love this album, I remember going to visit my uncle in NYC and I had one of those portable cd players with a headset and I was listening to this album in the subways and man that was one of the most surreal experience I have ever had. I love this band, I love this album and they were a huge part of my teenage youth. RIP Pete.
Thank you for reviewing this underrated album. I love this album, its depressing and raw. The album didn't get the attention it deserved due to the times, numetal was exploding and Type O was def not that. Great review 🤘😎🤘
I really miss Type O Negative, they had such a unique and different sound than most metal bands I listened in the 90’s and even today. Maybe it was the darkness that attracted me to them that I liked, maybe it was Pete Steele’s vocals that I liked, maybe a little bit of both. I love Blood Kisses, October Rust and World Coming Down. Their last few records weren’t as polished as these three but they’re were such a tight band and I thought they’d always be around and I was saddened of Pete’s passing in 2010. R.I.P. Peter...😔🤟🏻🎸
Great album. I still love TYPE O NEGATIVE since 1995!!!. I Love their guitar/bass tone and atmospheres on every record. Josh Silver keyboards were 50% the soul of the band, the other 50% were Peter, Kenny, Sal and Johnny.
I was late to this album, but really love it and it's possibly my favorite TON album. The slow plodding nature of the album speaks to me. I lost my wife to cancer on 1/1/19 and this was on loop for a long time afterwards. Therapy by association.
World Coming Down was an amazing record when I first heard it. This was definitely they're most depressive album considering all the turmoil that Peter Steele went through, but the music was incredibly dark and atmospheric. I always have a hard time calling a Type O record a bad album, and this is no exception. This further cements Type O Negative as the definitive Gothic metal band having to expand their range in terms of tone and emotion with every passing album.
My favorite Type-O album. I just moved to Gravesend Brooklyn when the album broke, and I found out from it’s liner notes that I was getting my dinners from the same Chinese food place on Ave. X as some of the guys in the band. I loved the records before this one ever since hearing Bloody Kisses and was aware of the earlier albums and Carnivore (but I was not a big fan). This album was played religiously and ever now and then I’d see Pete at L’Amores wondering around.
Difficult to pick a favourite Type O record, i love them all so damn much, for different reasons, but this one is kinda peculiar, and indeed stands out. After a couple of goth albums, they drop a doom monster. No sexual fantasies, no romance this time, it's a deep, dark, sorrowful album. The main riff of the title track always gives me goosebumps. R.I.P. Peter, i've never known you, but damn i miss ya.
This guy made some interesting points. "They were kinda going down the tubes" stands out. October Rust is their best album- one million times played at least & my CD player died. World Coming Down is arranged like classic 70's era PF album. "White Slavery" is one of the greatest songs ever written. Peter was always brilliant lyrically & creatively. Probably his best tongue in cheek lyrical moment that makes a serious statement about addiction.
I was just listening to this record last weekend. Was kind of feeling a weird kinship between World Coming Down and the current pandemic going on. Definitely their most cathartic and personal disc, the one you should take to a desert island or if you're serious about your quarantine LOL.
This is my personal favorite Type O Negative album because of the darkness. To me, it feels like the most personal album they did and it's the one I go back to the most.
Can you review Sepultura or Pantera, I think those two bands made a huge leap in metal history, from playing to half a million people to putting Brazil on the metal map
my favorite album. maybe it was the time it came out and I was going through as a young adult, addiction, depression, anxiety , you name it. It got me . Love it, Much respect to TON and hope Pete can get this message wherever he is, Bravo...
My #1 favorite Type O album. I have such an emotional connection to this band that I can’t even listen to them anymore since Pete died. The bits of the album played here are the first Type O I’ve heard in years and just brings back a flood of feels that I’m still not able to deal with yet, even 10 years later.
One of my favorites by them. Nice to see it get some respect. Though I would disagree that their last two albums are similar. Life Is Killing Me is more akin to World Coming Down while Dead Again is a strange punky beast hybrid.
Dam-Ian P exactly, the last two albums are my favourite ones but they are indeed very different from each other. Life is killing me is very direct while Dead Again is a totally different animal, long intros and in a way it is kind of progressive in many songs, meaning that it has totally different parts in one same song. Best guitar riifs of their discography as well. My all time favourite, ALL SONGS ARE AMAZING and uniquely well written. Too bad it was is their last, I think Peter was inspired as never before he passed.
WCD is a goddamn masterpiece. Popoff said it all perfectly, while this isn't my favorite Type O album it probably really is the most "Type O" Type O Negative album. And no love for Slow, Deep and Hard and Origin?!? Origin is in my top 3 for sure, just a really great interpretation of those songs and a very cool idea for a "live" album. 💚
This album is a masterpiece! Over time it has become my favorite I think. Given all the things going on in their lives at this point, it's so inspired...Pete's bass work is probably the best stuff he ever did.
October rust is my go to album by Type O. I still play it regularly. I cant get through the fall without playing that album every day. But with that said. This album is their best and 100% IS their sound
Johnny and Kenny from Type O did a live stream last Saturday and were asked about the Wagner book. Johnny said a lot of the book's content was 100% not true, though he never gave any specific details. Look up Johnny Kelly on Facebook and you can find the stream.
Past few months I've dived deep into Type O, amazing band I can't believe I slept on. I love how unashamedly themselves they were. Now one of my faves for sure.
Type O is in my top 5 of all time! This album is hit and miss for me, when put along with the rest of thier stuff. I need to be in a certain place when I hear this, because it brings a lot of memories up. I typically grab October Rust or Life Is Killing Me. Great review, and it's good to see some TON love! 🤘
Brilliant Album! 20 years later, still bring it out for a spin every now and then. As a whole, probably my second favorite album of theirs. I miss Peter so much! A musical genius he was.
I ordered world coming down from a CD club in 2000 (if anyone remembers those) on a whim. The album art and the little description appealed to then 17 year old me. I remember putting it in my CD player and getting confused, alarmed and upset by Skip it thinking that the disc was damaged. Then I heard White Slavery, part of it as this was before my attention span had evolved to understand what Type O was doing. Anyway, the sonic immensity and sludgy pace was overwhelming and amazing at the same time. I had never heard anything like it. I quickly browsed through the album and heard the beginnings of all the songs and then listened to the album front to back and that was it. I was a fan for life and proceeded to buy everything they'd ever recorded. Later after a hand injury I switched to playing bass from guitar after being informed that that "type o guitar sound" I was describing was actually the bass. type 1 negative was a huge influence on me, I am very thankful for them and for this album in particular because it served as a springboard for my musical and intellectual development.
Loved this album to death, @bangertv guys could you also do a review of either katatonia's brave murder day, opeth's Morningrise or edge of sanity's Crimson. Would love to see your on take on those records.
my second favorite of theirs, after bloody kisses. world coming down is a much more cohesive work than bloody kisses though, the songs sit together better and it feels more mature and thought out. also, i love the beatles meddley, especially she's so heavy.
Thanks to the Much Music "Loud" show (before it was a channel) I saw the TON Everything Dies video. I was instantly a fan and got their whole catalogue.
i think you guys should revisit some awesome Canadian bands, especially from the Montreal scene of the late 90's early 00's. Albums like: Anonymus - Stress Quo Vadis - Day Into Night Martyr - Warp Zone B.A.R.F. - Catharsis (this one is more niche because it has some songs in French, but it is so brutal and dark!)
This is the first Type O record I ever heard, blasting through my wall one morning when I was coming down (so my housemate did have a sense of humour). I thought it was a torturous dirge at the time; it's probably gone on to be my favourite Type O album (just bumping October Rust off its perch). The title track is phenomenal and the whole album sounds huge. It's extremely bleak, but still catchy in its way. It sounds amazing cranked up, but the songs still come through down low on a shitty stereo and that's the mark of great music.
This was the first album I heard from them, and I became an instant fan, and it still is my favourite Type O album. Just because it is grittier and heavier than the other ones. Perfect example is White Slavery, which still is my favourite Type O song, that intro riff just rips into my eardrums every time.
I don't agree there's no Beatles in this record. Pyretta Blaze certainly has some Beatles-like sound to it, I even think Everything Dies has a similar sound to it.
I initially didn't like it that much, but it grew on me. World Coming Down is one of my go to tracks when I'm going through a tough time, and All Hallows Eve is in my top 5 tracks for the band.
I didn't give World Coming Down a chance when it first came out. I had bought October Rust when it first came out because I loved Bloody Kisses (and, after discovering that one, going back and loving their previous two albums)...but I got sick of October Rust pretty quickly. And for whatever reason, I hated the two songs I heard on the radio from World Coming Down. I ended up getting an mp3 rip of the album a few months later and it somehow grew on me quickly, then I bought the CD. It's one of those releases that works better as a whole album; I even liked "Everyone I Love Is Dead" and "Everything Dies" within that context. Definitely among my favorite albums by the band now!
The last two albums are my favourite ones but they are indeed very different from each other. Life is killing me is very direct while Dead Again is a totally different animal, long intros and in a way it is kind of progressive in many songs, meaning that it has totally different parts in one same song. Best guitar riifs of their discography as well. My all time favourite, ALL SONGS IN DEAD AGAIN ARE AMAZING and uniquely well written, from first to last. Too bad it was is their last, I think Peter was inspired as never before he passed.
While I was purchasing The Fragile by Nine Inch Nails the same day it was released, the cashier had mentioned that Type O Negative came out with World Coming Down that day as well. I dismissed her album suggestion because I was only looking forward to purchasing my favorite bands new album. I saved my lunch money for weeks to purchase The Fragile so I could not afford to check out or take a chance on a new band. After hearing Everything Dies on the radio a few months later, I was an instant fan. I remember revisiting The Mortal Kombat soundtrack and listening to Blood & Fire (Out of the Ashes mix) on repeat. Eventually my father purchased World Coming Down for me for Christmas. It’s one of my favorite albums of all time. In retrospect, two of my favorite artists and albums were released the same day over 20 years ago.
We appreciate the kind words. Share it with the world! Thanks!!!
Martin Popoff I don’t know, you could argue that he had it easier, since Alice in Chains’ legacy created from “Dirt” is legendary, haha. There’s no such thing as a “bad” Type O Negative album.
True
Exactly not having anything from Type O is bad!
I'm sure the drab 4 would disagree with this statement! 😉
David Dally well said 🤘🏻
The ONLY bad albums are the ones we don't have anymore!
I love that this guy is keeping Type O Negative in our memories as i will always, but i don't like the continued which is better when they all mean something to a lot of us from beginning to end, in my opinion this guy is only wanting recognition from the BEST Band to ever exist!

Great summation.
"All Hallows Eve" is a gem
"All Hallows Eve" is one of my favorite metal songs, period.
I've NEVER clicked so fast on a video in my LIFE
me either!
Same lol
We're here for you Joey...
"White Slavery" alone is worth the price of all the records in the world.

The title song also nails it. Great songs, great album
Easily one of my favourite Type O songs too.
Nailed it.
21 years later still playing it.. never gets old. we miss you Pete! 🤘
Absolutely loved World Coming Down...The Creepy Green Light is one of my all time favorite songs, ever....
Uriah Faust that’s one of my faves too!
Great song.Dig that cool bass with delay, that puts the "creepy", in Creepy Green Light.
Yes! I was looking for just such a comment. For my money, Creepy Green Light is distilled Type O Negative. And distilled things are meant to be savoured & enjoyed, after all

Slow Deep and Hard IS the greatest metal album ever written......there's nothing more real than that fuckin thing
Indeed. It was so avantgarde at the time. But sure one of their best albums! They were all good. But SD&H is Type O fundamental.
Suuuuuuuuuuuch an underrated album. Second best TypO album imo.
I think life is killing me is one of their best if not best albums critically looked over
I guess? Even Josh bagged that album. Feels like their weakest to me. Been fan since 94. I'm glad they ended with Dead Again.
Strong beatles vibes on less than zero and we were electrocute... Love that album!
Josh has mentioned that he thought it was their weakest record but there are some good songs on it. Anesthesia is the fan favorite, of course. I really like Todd's Ship Gods.

I love this record
Everything Dies is played randomly and with regularity in our home
The absolute power of the title track's chorus bouncing between Pete and Kenny. Sacred.
Thanks for keeping Type O in the conversation. This is not my favorite record in their collection but I still think it's very a good one. White Slavery is particularly powerful and heavy. The record also seems oddly relevant during a pandemic

Please do the following album, life is killing me.
Do them all
I strongly second that. I 💚 Life is Killing Me.
NETTIE...
What for? Why listen to a guy talking about albums made long time ago? Just listen to them .
I've always thought LIKM never got enough appreciation, classic Type O Negative.

thanks! With this series we're unearthing the lesser loved albums but they'll be some obvious classics thrown in the mix too.
World Coming Down is a stellar record and I love the title track. The Gregorian chant underlines the deep hopelessness and despair of the track.
Yesss!! 💚💚 type o knows how to take it all the way down to the pit of despair!
Love this record. Love type o. I think I have played October rust from beginning to end a million times
World Coming Down is such an influential album to my playing. Always liked their stuff but WCD always stuck out the most. Love it to pieces.
So happy to see this! My all time favorite band. The sound, the aesthetic, the mood, they're truly in a category all their own. Thank you for doing this. I absolutely ❤ Type O.
Dead Again is their most underrated album and I love that album. The production might be a bit too clean, but the music is great
I really like the songs on Dead Again but I was kinda disappointed in the drum sound on the record. Johnny's first Type O album playing acoustic drums and he got ripped off.

One of the most depressing albums of all time, but one of my favourites 💚
My favorite music channel reviewing my favorite album from one of my favorite bands of all time? Keep doing Overkill Unearthed! Love it.
Cd has fantastic audio quality/fidelity. Mastering by George Marino. Wish more metal albums could sound this good!!
Awesome video. Love this series. One of my favorite Type O Negative albums ever. RIP Peter Steele - one of a kind human and unbelievable performer.
Loved the Beatles medley at the end the version of the shes so heavy riff was amazing
I love how everytime they repeat the riff,it gets slower and slower.Genius.
My favorite Type O album. This band does not get enough discussions these days. Thanks for making this video.
Can you review Sepultura or Pantera, I think those two bands made a huge leap in metal history, from playing to half a million people to putting Brazil on the metal map
a type o review omg! thank you so much for this dose of happiness (and melancholy lol) in this stressful time
my favorite album. maybe it was the time it came out and I was going through as a young adult, addiction, depression, anxiety , you name it.
No mention of my 2 favorite albums, Slow Deep And Hard and Origin Of The Feces.
Johnny and Kenny from Type O did a live stream last Saturday and were asked about the Wagner book. Johnny said a lot of the book's content was 100% not true, though he never gave any specific details. Look up Johnny Kelly on Facebook and you can find the stream.
bought the cd at a multimedia store in my town of Fargo,ND and I love all the tracks including the Beatles Medley
This was great review! Thank you very much!
I love Type O Negative had the chance to see them four or five times Great Band was really bummed out when Peter Steele died
I really like this unearthed series! LOVE Type-O and this is a great album. Cheers!
I think “World Coming Down” is Type O’s best album.
It's good, but I gotta say bloody kisses,
I whole-heartedly agree. World Coming Down is #1
Five outta five skulls💀💀💀💀💀
It’s great but October Rust will always be my favorite.
This album is the one my adopted-dad used to introduce me to metal, during my teen years-and I thank him for it everyday! I LOVE Type O!
Peter Steele's Apex album is Carnivore " Retaliation"... Type O is great, but the two Carnivore albums are 🌋⚡🌠🔥💥...
Thanks to the Much Music "Loud" show (before it was a channel) I saw the TON Everything Dies video. I was instantly a fan and got their whole catalogue.
i think you guys should revisit some awesome Canadian bands, especially from the Montreal scene of the late 90's early 00's.
Albums like:
Anonymus - Stress
Quo Vadis - Day Into Night
Martyr - Warp Zone
All Hallows’ eve was the first Type O song I ever heard
Totally agree with you man. It's beautiful. It's cold. But most importantly, its fucking honest. One of my favorite records by my favorite band.
I don't agree there's no Beatles in this record. Pyretta Blaze certainly has some Beatles-like sound to it, I even think Everything Dies has a similar sound to it.
Thank you for doing this
And while Soul on Fire was not authorized by the band it still is a phenomenal book and a must read for any Type O Negative/Pete Steele fan.
This one was a grower for me. Like all their albums. Another band that I will miss waiting for the next release. Everything dies I suppose.
Way to go Martin!
great entertaining review.very informative.
My favorite Type O album, always was. Hidden gems for me are the title track, Pyretta Blaze and the Day Tripper medley.
I initially didn't like it that much, but it grew on me. World Coming Down is one of my go to tracks when I'm going through a tough time, and All Hallows Eve is in my top 5 tracks for the band.
Love the production on this album, love the Day Tripper medley 💚
Love this album!! Favourite type o negative and I love all there album's. We need more type o negative!!
How about reviewing another one of Brooklyn’s finest the debut of life of agony
River Runs Red!
Amen brother. River Runs Red is one of my all time favorite albums. Fits in well with World Coming Down, extremely dark!
Saw life of agony recently with overkill it was awesome
Do more of these this was great
I didn't give World Coming Down a chance when it first came out. Definitely among my favorite albums by the band now!
great choice...I fully agree with your synopsis...the band seems to be getting renewed interest in it...well deserved...
Broken Hate Machine the fragile is maybe my all time fav NIN album..
