I always took the beginning bit - that gets repeated later in the song - to represent being able to briefly escape thinking about his grief while he's on stage performing, and then when the applause ends, he's alone with his thoughts.

This album is the most "real" that they put out. Took quite some time to grow on me, but now it's like a warm blanket, there's just something really comfortable about it. But it had to click for me at the right time.

Try "Nettie" about Peter's mom, or "Todd's Ship God's" about his father. And of course, Red Water (Christmas Mourning) the best Christmas song ever.

Peter took a lot of vitamins around this time. That's it. He was into health, while also having an alcohol and cocaine problem. The tracks, Liver, Sinus, and Lung, aren't songs, but short tracks of the sounds of the fears the band members had about how they would die. Adds an extra very dark feel to a mostly depressing album.

I dare to give you an advice, L: remember Type O Negative have always been facing their "concept" (=lyrics) not 100% "seriously".
I mean, in composing their music and other choices here and there, u can feel as they hit you in the face with catchy/dark/smooth/acid (sometimes) music, heavy doom grey lyrics and images.. and right after, they "have fun" to lighten up, and later let's go back down deep. (or think about the "vampire shadow" around the character "Peete" and his fake accent, while singing about HEAVY topics..).
Unlike Katatonia, who usually get u there and stay there till the end.
I love T0N for this. And Katatonia for that. It's like your case, MyTwin + July, variety is important to keep on staying THERE :)

Funny thing about “Everyone I Love is Dead” is that while Pete said in an interview that both that sing and this one were very personal for him, everyone I love is dead is a rocked out banger that doesn’t sound like it’s taking itself seriously at all, while this one absolutely is. Everyone I’ll e is dead would actually be a great pick to do next coz it’s a complete change of pace, I think you’ll like it more than this one in pretty much every way.

  • @kevinhampton6986

So the weird chant part at the start of the song and near the end apparently is "I like vitamins...Pete likes vitamins." I always thought it was "I just want to live...he just wants to live," which would make more sense in context with the song, but they at least said in an interview that it was vitamins (of course, they could have been joking).

Well, it sounds like it was bad timing for this song. Also, while I understand what you're saying in regards to changing the variety of the lyrics, I think the intention was to be tragic and address the loss of life that we all experience. That does make it a heavy song, but for some reason, I can put this on, sing along, and feel better about the whole mess. Great video Lauren!

Hello Lauren, new sub here. I was watching a video a few days ago from another RUclipsr and they recently visited Peter Steele's grave. So I decided to give some Type O Negative tunes a listen since I pretty much ignored them (big mistake) growing up because I was more a fan of thrash metal and death metal. As I started my Type O journey, your channel was the first I stumbled across. So for the past few days I've been stuck on your channel watching and re watching your Type O reactions. So far I'm really enjoying your content and your style of reacting. The random pauses and researching info doesn't bother me one bit like it does with other reaction channels. So I'm here for the long haul and look forward to more of your videos. And yes, Anesthesia is the best Type O song. Those lyrics hit me and speak to me probably the same way they do for you. Cheers from Florida!

Peter wrote the song the song in regards to his family members and how he felt at that time. The death of his father was especially hard on him so in making this album Pete was going through a lot of stuff in his personal life.

The album was written when Peter was in the depths of cocain and depression. He rarely performed any of the songs from this album.

  • @dansantosn
    @dansantosn Год назад

Type O Negative was an act. A satire of "sad bands". Like "ok, many bands sing about sad and depressive stuff already... what if we took it to the very extreme?" and the concept was born. Then Peter created this obscure character for himself, even faking an accent to look and sound as dark as possible. That combined with talented musicians and good composers = the ultimate masterpiece of depression haha. They joked about it a lot, even inside the songs occasionally.

Definitely a bit on the nose, for sure. But, I agree, you don't have to like everything someone you like does. I'm a ridiculous Tool/NIN/Type O/you name it fan - but there are multiple songs by each of them that I just don't listen to much. Music depends on it's listener, and each listener is different, has different tastes, is going through different things, etc. On the Type O front, maybe check out IYDKMIGTHTKY, really good deep Peter in there.

Yeah, this whole album was probably the lowest the band got with being depressing. A lot of folks consider it their best album, but it's also the one that Pete was at an all time low emotionally, mentally and physically. His health and mental state were not in optimal places here and a lot of family and friends passed away before and during the recording of this album.

Type O has been my absolute favorite since late 90s High School years.
World Coming Down was my least favorite album after they changed their sound from the early Carnivore material.
Definitely hafta be in a certain kind of mood to listen to the majority of the tracks on this one. Like you and most others stated, Pete's music reflected where he was in a certain period, and this one was a very dark place...sans a lot of the tongue in cheek sarcasm that comes along with other album lyrics that kind of offsets the depression and makes it charming.
I will disagree with some folks asking you to react to their early material (pre Bloody Kisses) because in my opinion, totally different band even though most the members were the same. Early stuff was more thrash/punk sound and the content was made to provoke and offend. Musically, in that infancy, I personally feel they didn't have maturity in the actual music and it just didn't do it for me like their later material.
