I really enjoyed Axel F. Usually with these modern day sequels they go too on the nose with modern jokes but it felt like it could of been made in the 90s. Exactly what I wanted. Also Kevin Bacon, what more could you want

people are saying they’re either the terrifics (because they’re all dressed like mr terrific) or the justice league because the lord tech logo is a JL. i think they’re going to be the Justice Lords and at the end of the movie, guy and hawkgirl will spin off into justice league international and terrific and metamorpho will spin off into the terrifics. there’s going to be a justice league international and a terrifics announcement soon. justice lords is a reference to the anti-hero/anti-villain version of the justice league from the DCAU. they have lord in the name like lord tech. lords in the name also lends to a more arrogant attitude that we expect from all superheroes in this movie except for superman.

YES! I’m loving this Podcast. Becoming an advid Listener. I’m very glad I didn’t see “A Quiet Place Day One”. It’s probably good, but look at what’s happening to the movie. It’s like I knew. Still a Shame though, the trailer looked good.

I was seriously so embarrassed by Bron's dissection of Shrek. That is the most pseudointellectual, faux-academic analysis I've ever heard haha honestly hilariously obtuse. Liked her commentary on Inside Out 2, but that Shrek diatribe was just picture-perfect idiocy
To be honest though, I do remember even back in 2001 thinking it was a pretty weird message to essentially be saying: "There's someone out there for everyone, as long as you look the same" .

@medalion1390 But... that's the entire point of the movie. All her life, Fiona was only valued for her looks, so she thinks that without them, no one will love her. When Shrek loves her no matter what, she can let go of her need to be beautiful and embrace who she is inside.

I didn't like today's guest, specially her sexist comment of how it was sad that mom's emotions where driven by sadness (which is true, it is sad), but when it comes to the father's mental health its "lol typical men driven by anger lol" as if men mental health is less important. I can finally see where the comments that call james a soy boy come from, james preaches men's mental health but he bended backwards over so quickly it was impressive to see someone throw away their beliefs for an insensitive, sexist and quite frankly bad joke.

i don't know about the shrek stuff. fiona changes for shrek, but it's a joke/subversion on fairy tale princesses, a genre where princesses are already highly objectified, literally the prize for the prince/adventurer. Donkey escapes being a possession at the beginning and shrek treats him with annoyance but as an equal, not property. the dragon falls in love with donkey, which i never saw as promiscuous, unless you want to connect love at first sight to promiscuity but gosh that has a lot of implications. The peasants are stupid and I guess in later movies with fiona's family etc royalty are put in a better light, but people with power are also the villains. Shrek is a self-sufficient fully organic filthy working class misfit, and learns to get along and ally himself with fellow misfits.
I don't think shrek is a perfect moral lesson, i can agree it reproduces a black sidekick trope and stuff, but it feels a bit like honing in on a random movie. Then again most media _is_ somewhat sexist, classist, racist etc that you could produce legitimate critiques of, so idk

Fiona doesn't charge herself to fit into Shrek's world. The story is the opposite of that. Fiona realizes that she can be her true self around him. She doesn't have to pretend to be a prim and proper princess. He loves that she openly burps and loves gross food and that she can fight. They fall in love long before he knows she's part ogre.
The movie's about accepting yourself for who you are despite society's pressures to make one hate themselves for their non-conformity. Fiona and Shrek show each other that it's okay to be yourself, even if others don't like you for it. She was masking as a human, not vice versa.

In the real Fallout games civilization has basically been restored, it's really a post-post-apocalyptic universe.
