My BIGGEST Brown Trout Caught Bottom Bouncing - Lake Ontario 2018

  • It's been awhile since we fished St. Catharines but good thing we made the trip today.
    Daniel caught 1 steelhead, 1 brown and lost a few. I managed to catch my biggest brown to date and lost 3.
    I think the reason I was losing my fish was due to the drag being to tight when fighting the fish. I think my issue was getting constant snags on the bottom, I would tighten my drag to get my sinker loose and forget to loosen it up after. I should've been more aware.
    The setup we used for today was a bottom bouncing rig with a 3 way swivel, 3/4oz sinker and a roe bag with floaters. We would cast it into the current and let it bounce along the bottom and wait for a bite. It's a technique I'm still figuring out.
    Question for you guys... would you have kept that hen for all its eggs? I'd like to know what you guys would've done if you caught a hen of that size loaded with eggs.
    I would've kept the smaller ones but that's just me.

    To answer your question. All the people that keep that hens that big for eggs are crazy. Those fish are tanks and will only get bigger and possibly give someone else enjoyment in catching it. Those fish should never be kept.

      Taking that fish decrease the population. Should never keep fish like that. A smaller hen is way better to keep.

      isco Disco Thanks 👍, this was from our first outing and it seems like everyone was catching that day. We’ve gone back 3 times and it was very slow. 2 of those outings the dams were shut off 👎. Our last outing the dams were flowing but we only saw 2 fish caught 🤷‍♂️

    I wouldn't keep any browns at all. I'd rather keep a steelhead because there are more of them and they taste better. In my opinion someone shouldn't even keeps the eggs of a fish unless they plan to use the meat as well. Also top tip I have for not losing browns. Keep your drag super light. Browns have a very soft mouth compared to steelhead and salmon so if you have your drag cranked down and try to horse them you just pull the hooks out. Good luck out there hope to see you on the water.

    • @PUMPKNOWSFISHING
      @PUMPKNOWSFISHING  5 лет назад

      I wouldn’t mind keeping a few smaller ones from this area. They do have a lot of stocked browns, also the smaller ones would have less contaminants in them compared to the bigger ones.
      I wasn’t use to all the snags, I would tighten my drag every time I snag up and sometimes forget to loosen it right after. At least I’ll remember to do it next time

  • @HeartOfMetalx11
    @HeartOfMetalx11 5 лет назад +1

    Nice I've been avoiding port because when the current is on that side flowing at the pier there's so many snags and you have to work the bounce and force it more. Where as when its on the other side it's a steady bounce way less snags. Nice fish though man

    • @PUMPKNOWSFISHING
      @PUMPKNOWSFISHING  5 лет назад

      Shayne Hurd yup, I learned the hard way. I don’t getting snagged up and losing sinkers but give me some fish in the mix. It sucks getting skunked and loosing rigs all day

    Never fished where u are. I normally fish down the light house. But haven't for past few yrs due to blocking it off......

      zoomzoomgt I think it’ll be awhile before they open that part up again. I think they just announced they’ll start repairing it soon

      @@PUMPKNOWSFISHING so i heard, but that was 3 yrs ago..... Still nothing. At the rocks at the light house can catch monster catfish m smb n pike on the boat side.
      So the shwa is closed. Only south of the rail roads. Where u fished in this video, is it open? Or is it just closure for streams only?
