Great vid Matt & Heidi. Looks like a great domestic mower for the average punter. Love the ease of changing cylinders. Now on my bucket list! Further the capacity to to remove the reel for professional sharpening during winter is appealing.
My neighbor has a kensington and I have/ had a Buffalo 27 and they are all super quiet compared to other engines. I sold my Buffalo do to an unrelated injury and now am buying a slightly used stirling, I’m a bit nervous but I think the kensington is a fantastic mower and looking forward to seeing how stirling does, I’m concerned about grass catcher falling apart and have heard about hard lining issues. Will see
Loving it so far, ordering the aerator tomorrow in the USA, concerned about it being non powered and if Stirling has the weight to do anything. Love your site and want to order some merchandise swag, I need that hat haha
Craig Monty 1 second ago I'm so keen for an electric cylinder but i do worry about how it will age long term. Petrol mowers can always have engines repaired or even replaced pretty easily but what's the options like when the battery systems start to age? What happens for example if EGO stop making this battery in this form factor or stop making it all together? I suppose the money you save in maintenance for a petrol will offset the cost of buying a new electric mower in 10 years... Just more e-waste i guess.
Hard to say what the long term deal will be like. Don't have that crystal ball but Ego is one of the bigger battery systems so to speak. If they all fell over I'm guessing someone would uptake the battery form to offer replacements.?
Great video, thanks for sharing. With a Max 50mm HOC for the Allett Stirling for my Palmetto, which cartridge would best suit the Palmetto spring Reno? Aerator, verticut, scarifier, or de-thatcher?
My goodness that is a nice next gen reel mower. Allett has to be making the best homeowner reels on the market especially with the cartridge system, such a simple and useful idea. Thank goodness there are tons and tons of Greensmasters around for those of us of more modest means!
They have but the Allett ‘Atco’ models have been around a while longer with the same functionality and in a few areas those older alletts are better than the Swardman imo. This Stirling really ups the game. I love that you can use the battery on the Ego tools. I only wish there was a true grooming cartridge like the Swardman one that has recently been released.
I think so. Better frame most importantly. More power for cultivations. Better handle. Ultra Change. I haven’t used a Liberty but have the Kensington. On a rushed day the time and effort to change a cartridge has sometimes detected me from doing a light verticut for example.
I have the Swardman, kind of wish this mower came out a year earlier and I may have bought this instead. The price tag is a bit steep, about $1000 more than the Swardman and need to buy the battery system separate, which is about another $1000. It's hard to say if this mower is $2000 better than the Swardman, and I'm someone that has been slightly disappointed with the Swardman, but $2000 is a lot of money for comparable products.
I had the Swordsman as. well and that was good for a while. I speak to the designer quite regular. I feel the Allett is leaps ahead at the moment. this is a great product.
When the Swardman debuted I had immediate concerns about its battery due to its internal mounting and the difficulty entailed if it needs to be changed out. It also eliminates the possibility of swapping out a second battery if you’re cutting a large property or were working on a big project and run out of battery charge. The Allett Liberty uses a universal design in its battery by Greenworks and the Sterling model uses the EGO system so extra batteries are relatively affordable and can be charged while running with the other. When the Swardman needs to be charged I believe that it has to be parked in place until it’s charged.
I only had it a little while so can’t comment long term but during testing this had no problems. Note that this machine had many hours on it as a tester before I got it.
Hi Matt, I've pre ordered the Stirling with AdeTurf & was considering also getting the dethatcher cartridge albeit I'd dethatching Sir Walter Buffalo with it. Noting you used the dethatcher on your Tif Tuf do you think it'll also go ok on Sir Walter ? Cheers Jase Sunny Coast, QLD
Hey Jase, cheers for this message. I think the dethatcher cartridge would be great for buffalo because there’s enough gap between the cutting lines to leave some plant matter and green leaf. A second pass at 90 degree would be just spot on too and lead to a very consistent start to a post Reno lawn for growing season.
Was there a rough price point for this here in Australia. After seeing the Allett produced review and with the exchange rate, it seemed as if it would be around $6000. plus attachments.
It’s nice to have such dreams. Think of it nicely and positively. Don’t let the dream get you down because you don’t have it now. I remember a time when my family didn’t even have a home and things seemed hopeless. I remember very well when we got a place. It became a home and I felt very lucky.
It's great stuff. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the top products including lawn porn. Just get the dosage right, sprayer and technique dialled in and be consistent.
A battery operated cylinder mower. Struth! what's next. Battery powered airliners! How long does the charge last for? Also do you need to adjust the mower height setting for each side? I've used battery powered rotary mowers before. I've found that the mower settings are not low enough to cut my couch lawn.
Charge lasts decent. I’d guess a 10Ah would be quite a few mows of a 200m2 yard. I didn’t have the time to do a proper test but that 3 outta 5 shot was done after 7 odd mows of my front (to get footage etc) the small bit of cultivating I did in the back and a mow of my rear plus mowing at both my mates which I drove it all the way to the property with the self propel
Runtime is approx 40 minutes (850sqm) with the 6 blade cartridge and 5Ah battery. Whilst there are numerous variables including the HOC and which cartridge is in use that can affect it. However you can use the 10Ah Battery if you’re wanting a longer runtime. Whilst the HOC is 5-50mm, however you can do 4-15mm with the 10 Bladed Cutting Cylinder, the HOC adjuster is on one side 👍
Hi Matt I’ve been wanting one of these since they came and waited for the prices to go up lol. How would you compare this mower over the gas Kensington. I have a year Kensington but hopefully sell itself
Good review Matt very nice looking cylinder mower easy to change cartridges out battery powered mowers have come a long way even zero turn mowers are coming out with lithium power 👍
They’ve all gone up so much in price in recent years. Unfortunately I cannot give out any discount codes etc because of my primary employment. It’s a bit difficult to explain. Sorry I can’t help you in this regard.
Allett should be grateful for this video because their cartridge demonstration videos don't clearly show the True Capabilities of their cartridges. Thank U Lawn Porn.....
Almost 5k here in the states without no battery, and basic reel, absolutely rip off, i bought my JD greens mowers 11 blades with grooved roller for $1300.

@@adeturfequipmentptyltd5402 From the US market, the Swardman goes for 3799, the Allett is 4469. The Battery on Allett's site is 999, plus the charger, 399. That makes the Allet 5867, compared to the 3799. Obviously Allett has some brand name power that has to count for some dollars, and Swardman is still an up and coming name, so they have to try to be cheaper to get market penetration, maybe $2000 is a fair difference in the industry, I don't know.
@@lawnporn What's not jiving with me is that they priced it even more expensive than Swardman Electra and on top Stirling doesn't even come with battery. Uk pricing is substantially cheaper. Let's see how this Stirling is going to perform long term in our US southern Texas weather with thick bermuda grass where we have bigger lawns before pulling the trigger.
This is a very exspensive Ego mower !! No way is this worth $4700-5000 it’s made 60% from a $750 made in China Ego mower . 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️. Allett is insane for their price points sorry!! Ego battery’s get ate up fast when using the self propelled and w this u have no choice it must be used I see a $1500-1800 mower at best!!
I get what you are saying and understand your point of view. If you can go a cheaper route to get the same thing then go for it but there are risks... I have mates that tried getting cheaper mowers from Alibaba and the like and never receive them. I found the battery did quite well for the self propelled and mind you my batteries are now a couple of years old, stored in a shed when during the summer it gets to 50 degrees Celsius sometimes... not ideal for batteries.

Yes, you can backlap the Cutting Cylinders by using a Drill 👌
Yep you can backlap. Sorry I didn’t mention.

I think getting the soil good, management of thatch levels, deep infrequent watering and spoon feeding nutrients and the cut of cylinder mowers.
