Thanks for a great review! I own both mowers. The Liberty is a very good machine but the Sterling is a much high level machine. Clint nailed with this comparison. The Sterling beats the Liberty in every category. I have the Sterling 51. For me it was worth the extra cost. I already had the ego batteries that came with the blower , trimmer and edger. The thing I like about Allett is they listen to their customers. They made all the changes to make the Sterling a fantastic mower.
I'm just about sold on this. I'm in my second season with my ryobi mower and hand tools. This is a great collaboration between Eco and allett. I'm getting one with 2 batteries.
Mention Clint and my channel when you speak to Roland or whoever through allett. They should give you a discount. If not message me here or on Instagram and i can help you out.
Great review. I put my order in last week. Can’t wait for it to arrive. My neighbors have already been asking to purchase my JD and Swardman. That helped my justify the cost.
Great review Clint. The Stirling 51 is definitely a better mower. I have already invested so much money on equipment and new landscaping that I am going to stick with what I have. My small channel doesn't generate any money and I will make it work lol. 😂 Striperman finds a way to still have a nice lawn. 😁
Honestly Keith, the liberty is an amazing machine and is perfect for my lawn. But I was able to sell a few things and save up to get this. There is no reason my tiny lawn needs this powerful of a machine!
The price alone is a big difference. The catch basket on the 51 is so more like we are used to seeing in North America. The 43 basket I have as an owner told Allett that they should offer a catch basket similar to the 51 as an accessory as this model has not changed in 6 years of production and it is outdated for our market since you know we have had these mesh catch baskets for years on gas mowers. They said it would take away from 51 sales which is silly.
Ya I hear ya. But the cost of everything is up and also the competition is up there in that price range too. Swardmans, toros, etc that give a really nice cut and have cartridge features. If it was a McClain or Tru cut it would be cheaper but doesn't have the features. Plus those are not cheap either. Reel mowing just isn't cheap in general!
I ordered one yesterday and all the reasons you outlined were a factor in making my purchase. I’m coming from a Kensington 20H but battery power is def the way of the future. That and the asymmetric layout of the Honda engine causing uneven cuts and the better build quality of the Stirling make me pull the plug.
J-man, it really is a nice machine. Every thing about it. It is pricey but all of these types of machines, especially battery powered are in a higher bracket. It is what it is unfortunately
The quick change cartridge on the Stirling is a game changer. The liberty or petrol Kingston quick change is a pain removing that side panel, yeah I know first world problems, but being able to change the blade to scarifier in a second with no tools, it's perfect 👌 Oh and the metric system is all over the world but you Americans with your inches blows my mind, did you know only 3 countries use it officially, United States, Liberia, and Myanmar, it's kinda funny lol I think its so much harder to understand although im hopeless with fractions, but I love it when Americans talk in 5ths and 8ths like it's nothing. Blows my mind .... Its funny how your taught as child impacts your way of thinking, don't you think... Regards Marty...
Your comment is priceless my friends. These Americans and their fractions! I hear ya on the side panel. It's a pain but not really. But man are these things expensive. I feel though if you are going to get into this game of Reel mowing at this level you have to be willing to spend a little money.
@@TheNeighborDominator That's what I was thinking. I have a rye/KBG blend and was wondering if a reel mower was worth the price. By the looks of your lawn I might take the plunge.
Sterling is the way to go. Allett has taken lawn cutting to a new level. With the other machines out there they are the real deal, especially with the interchangeable cartridges.
They are definitely badass. It is pricey but you can eliminate a lot of Machines out of the garage. The cut is really nice too. I want to get a swardman though to use and compare the two. I have had the gm1000 but as far as a middle of the road battery reel I am curious🤔
I currently has the 43. I have an issue also with the grove it leaves in the grass and have to double cut to make even. Any suggestions on fixing that?? I don’t remember this happening when I fist bought? Thanks new to the channel
Mine didn't seem to do it when i first got it either. To help fix it i created a weight to put on top the machine opposite side of where the gears and battery are. I put it in a box that had magnets and stuck it on there when i mowed. The 43 is not balanced properly. I thought it was thatch build up, taking to much off at once. It was not the case. I wonder if you got a grooved roller if it would help. I will try to find a video from a popular channel across the pond called perfect green. He fixed it!
ruclips.net/video/feMEfs4q3ps/видео.html Look at his allett. He has a weight on the opposite side. He also ended up getting a grooved roller. I think grooved rollers are a necessity when reel mowing. He ended up putting a circular weight with a ball bearing inside the drum. He tricked his 43 out. Thanks for your subscription by the way👊🏾🙏🙏
Use TND99 or mention my Channel and it will get you 100$ off! Not much but it's something 🤷♀️ I have a little shop that back lapps for me and I have my local golf course sharpen my blades
I don't see why not. You would have to contact Allett from their website. Before they had dealers in the states they sent me a Liberty-43 from across the pond. Hit them up!
I cannot be certain. I know there were dealers in N.C. not sure if there was a show room. Rumor has it they are opening a facility in texas. But that is all rumored. I wish I was a bigger help🥺
Is the drive either all on or can you feather the speed, the Swardman being belt driven I could slowly engage the drive when starting and slowing down. Great Video I assume you sold the Toro Greensmaster 😁
No, you can adjust the speed and kind of feather it with the speed adjuster knob. You can't ease off the button that makes it go but it is very easy to go slow and speed up around objects (my telephone pole and flower bed). And yes, I unfortunately had to part with my gm1000. She was a beauty!
Great review and demo video. I have an old McLane mower and looking to upgrade to an electric style reel mower. At least once a year I come across a rock while mowing my lawn and it really ruins my day. I then have to take the mower to the shop to have the bed knife and reel sharpened. How do you go about sharpening the Stirling? Does it get sharpened like any other reel mower blade?
I have had my Liberty back lapped and a couple times. I also had ot professionally sharpened by a golf course. Allett said that most places that service John deer reels service alletts
I had my local golf course do it for me. They did my Liberty but otherwise I have a guy that back laps the reel on the regular at this small lawnmower shop.
I want this so bad (especially since I currently use Ego).. but between the price and $400 for shipping I'm not sure if it will ever happen :( I figured they would have at least included shipping in that price tag :/
That is a big reason why I wanted it because I do have ego products. Only if it ran on toro batteries it would have been better!🤣 it is an expensive piece of machinery but man is it smooth.
@@TheNeighborDominator More than likely I'll get it.. going to try out my manual Fiskars first to see how I like reel mowing. I recently did a lawn reno and it is no where near perfect, but at what mowing height do you need to start worrying about how leveled your lawn is? I plan to keep my kbg around 1.5 or 2".. so not too short.
That's great and all - but I feel like you didn't mention the biggest difference - Liberty costs half as much. $5000 for a residential reel mower is kinda insane. For all their slight upgrades I feel like their pricing is just trying to get the consumer to pay for their R&D on an already niche product. They should have put more effort into keeping costs to a level with an average consumer could even consider buying one. I have the Liberty and was only able to afford one due to extra cash from ebay flipping. And I'm upper middle class. Yes there are some things on the Stirling I would like but are they worth double? And also buying a new machine when I already have one? I feel like you probably got a good deal on the Allett due to your channel and otherwise probably wouldn't have purchased one right after the 43...
Brian my man! Hope all is well. I will agree that it is definitely more pricey than the allett 43. But they are totally different machines. I feel they are more solid, faster, and an overall better machine. Is it worth the price...I could of definitely continued on happy with my Liberty and saved the money. I had reasons why I wanted this machine. 1. It cuts my mowing time down significantly. 2. I like the cartridge system better (which is expensive for both machines). 3. I had many offers on my machine so it cut the cost down significantly because of the price increase of the Liberty-43. With my videos on my tiny channel I was able to get a "discount" because people used my affiliate code to buy their Liberty-43 over the past 2 seasons. My channel is the skid mark of grass youtube! Also, what is a decked out swardman? I feel these are priced comparable to what is out there for residential mowing. Reel mowing machines are not cheap. There are cheaper brands but I feel going battery, this size, the options, it's comparable to an Electra for sure
