If I'm not mistaken I think that's a Coelecanth. The one that was thought to be extinct, and was found in a net in 1949. That's an awesome find. It's not very often you find fossils of a species that's still alive on the planet!

I love the enthusiasm you have finding these fossils. I know I'll be watching for some time . It reminds me of finding a rich deposit of fossils in Algeria back in 1978 and looking up on this cliffs that had stuff protruding out everywhere. Being able to travel easily, Ill be heading out your way soon. Ill have to research the area.

Brilliant memories - need to go back up there. The ammonite in the nodule at 5.30mins odd was similar to one I found as a 7 year old back in the 70's in the cliff wall - I just thought i'd found some Roman pottery 😣 when I got home with my parents in our old yellow transit camper van it dropped from the back to reveal a full ammonite - my interest in collecting (all sorts) started. Wish I still had it though no idea where it went ☹

Years ago when I was a kid in the South Wales valleys we had a large open cast coal mine close to where I lived and I spent many hours collecting fantastic fossils there. Some of the fossils were massive and very detailed. Ferns tree trunks and all sorts of leaves and branches. The largest fossils would have required lifting gear to move, so remained where I found them.
Anyway one of my school teachers asked me to bring my fossil collection in to be put on display at the school as part of an exhibition. All my best fossils were sorted boxed and put on display. When the exhibition ended I went to get my fossils. Yep! You've guessed it no-one knew where they were and I never saw them again. One young lad learnt a very valuable lesson that day. Never trust those in authority!

When I was in the UK in 2019 I went fossil hunting at Charmouth Beach, Dorset. I found some beautiful ammonites without having to smash rocks. Everyone else was smashing everything in sight but I calmly walked along the beach and rocks and found a crystallised ammonite fossil. I took it to the Mary Anning Museum and the lady was very surprised at my finds.
I also found a lovely partial trilobite fossil at Seaton, East Devon.
Thankfully I was able to bring my fossils home to Australia.
Your fish fossil is incredible and I love the colour and shine.

As a fellow Yorkshireman i enjoy to see your vids in our County .
As a child we had a holiday with the school back in the 70s at Filey. I still remember finding a Devils Toe nail ! Most of us found one, and a few lucky kids found An Ammonite. Not had any luck since 40 years later. My eyes were closer to the ground then, that i thinks helps :)
Cant beat the Yorkshire coast come rain or shin, mostly rain lol

Trilobites being quite abundant. It is quite a hike to get down to the waterway to find these fossils but it is worth it not only for the fossils but for the scenery. I would love love love to find what you are finding in your area.

That fish fossil is really cool.
In 77 when I was 14 we lived south of Miami, FL. on the edge of the Everglades.
The ground was coral rock, with sharp edges. A hole was dug and I was on the pile tossing rocks.
One rock was smooth, so I looked at it. It was a fossilized fish head. One side was perfect, eyes, mouth and teeth marks of what bit off the body. The other side was not as sharp and the eye was missing.
The fish head looked like a modern mullet.
Because I found it fast and easy, I thought it must be common and tossed it.
A few days later I found out it was rare, but could not find it again.

Very well constructed video. I remember going down to that area years ago while at University with a field trip to collect, we saw an ammonite and thought 'Wow' and then another and another our bags and pockets were filled immediately and the we had to start thinking, as you do, and be properly selective of our specimens. Nice work!

The UK always looks so mystical compared to the U.S.
Even the Thames seems magically enriched with all of the historical treasures within it.
    Absolutely beautiful!
Ooooo, That one which you left in the beginning that you said would dry out and crack- still would’ve been great to spray a sealant on and frame.
    I thought it was super!
There are so many! All so amazing.☺️
Thank you for showing and sharing with us all of them!!
Love and hugs from the U.S.❤️🙏✝️✌️

This reminds me of my ex gf, she knocked her stepdads expensive fossil on to the floor, it split into 2 I glued it back together and he didn’t notice for years, I haven’t been with her for 5 years so I don’t know if he has found it yet 😂
