One thing i’ll add if I may, but a lesson I take from having chickens is the breeding feed has the calcium they need so just put oyster shell with the grit, it’s packed with calcium for egg shell formation and strength. The birds know when they need it so don’t force extra calcium, too much calcium and the shells can be too hard and the baby’s can have trouble hatching.
Also if you use pellet feed its formulated to have everything they need so you have to be careful of what vitamins or supplements you give cause too much can runny droppings and have negative effects.

One of the most genuine people I’ve met in my short 4 months into this hobby! As always great content 🙏 really appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experience about the hobby. The info is out there but you sir you bring it to us and that take alot of time and effort. What I’ve learn so far in this hobby is that there’s always something to learn and today I learned how important it is to make sure that if your using a pumper they need to lay eggs the same time of within 3 days apart. If I didn’t watch this video I would have wasted some good eggs because I have some birds I really like but my pumper layed eggs almost 7 days apart and I was thinking of switching eggs tomorrow good thing I saw this first 😅. Anyway really ton of great information even with trimming the plumage to help with fertility and making sure pairs paired up and mate first to avoid infertility due to “cock block”. I am very thankful and will always be grateful for your help my brother 🙏💯

I'm new and still learning everyday. Can you give us a quick session about what happens during what time of the year and why?
Example: December mating is for OLR.
Feb-April: mating for yb race
April-June: old bird racing
May-aug: late hatch. why? and how to use?
sept-nov: yb

Those that have been paired up before are easy unless the hen paired to a hen in the off season, in which case they can be a pain 😅. Enjoyed the video. Very educational and easy to follow. This is my favorite time of year aside from young bird race season. Look forward to following along with your season.

I have witnessed also some excellent flyers have the birds mix in a breeding loft without separating or keeping them locked up with a great success.
Also in breeding season I mix my feed with purina layers omega pellets with a good success .

I suppose if you have a good family of birds one wants to breed from and do well they can keep all together. But with different bloodlines and different breeding strategies it wouldn't work for me. I can accept letting the birds choose their mate in a controlled pool of birds, but then I would still ensure the mating is 100%, otherwise a pedigree will be questionable.
When you feed the pellets do you mix them with feed or you give just the pellets?
@@MaydisLoft I mix it all together I use 25% pellets I use to give calcium but with the chicken pellets no more , eggs are very nice no indication of calcium deficiency.
I know some combine winners do very minimal birds separation year after year and they keep winning .
But I ask them what they are they have no idea lol but they keep kicking my ars .
I’m trying a natural method this year no lights for my old bird’s racers but I can tell you some of the birds are not as interested to breed without lights specially the yearlings.
But I’m not breeding many this year like i told you just waiting to see what is going to happen with the old birds season if they don’t race I’m overloaded.
I like May hatching birds any day for the young birds season so we see i still got time .

hi great video couple things I'm new to the sports I started my breeding the 1st month of 2024 my question is I vaccinate with PMV & Salmonnella and I give them canker pills, how long do I have to wait before I paired them or can I paired them right away? thank you
I'd wait at least a week, they won't feel their best right after the vaccines. And it's a lot going on in the 1st week of pairing. I didn't mention on the video but also treat for worms. These are just preventive measures to ensure parents are 100% ready for breeding.

@@jovaniemoralde9624hey Silvio taught me everything I know about vaccinating and medication lmao you can do it all at once, this year I chose to (personal decision) to spread it out over 3 weeks. I wormed one week, treated for Cocci canker and respiratory the next week and the 3rd I vaccinated. I just didn’t want to bombard the birds with too much at once and add to the stress, then I waited to 2 weeks from vaccinating and paired up.
@@jovaniemoralde9624 Yes, I haven't had a reason to vaccinate and medicate separately, I think it's fine.
When you are not breeding the birds, do you keep the males and females separate to prevent unwanted breeding?
Yes, preferably you're able to keep them separated, less of a toll on the hens. Some people only have one loft but they manage, likely with fake eggs replacing the real ones.
