The 237 and 300 maxidynes pull down to a lower rpm and that’s why they usually only have 5,6 or 7 speed transmissions. The Econodyne series 300+ and 350’s have a slightly narrower torque curve and usually came with 9,10 or 12 speed Mack transmissions. Today almost any Mack you find can have any combo including Eaton. So you never know how they were when new!
I agree 100%. I might try and run the vin at Mack and see what this truck started as and that may give me some insight engine wise

In australia we call the 4x2 mack a single drive single axle tipper, what you call a tri axle three axle truck is a six wheeler as we only refer to the hubs and not how many tyres it has

Mr. Mac I would have to say he started off as a city or county truck because snow plow dump truck is either normally a city or county and they didn't have a lot of Thrills and frills on the city trucks or County trucks but they are Workhorse

Have you ever had the motor run backwards. Had a friend with a r model that had it happen a couple times it was interesting lol
I have witnessed it, guy tried to back a loaded truck up in high range off she went. Luckily the fuel stop shut it off but I had to run over and pull it out for em, he didn't even know what was happening 😂
