Nice to see an action protagonist who actually makes mistakes, takes damage, and isn't omniscient.
That's what made die hard work so well when it dropped.
I honestly enjoyed this movie so much for reasons like that
Watch Korean movies.
cars don't stop bullets...just engine blocks. you'd be gone.
@Ban this youtube sounds like fun
Holy hell, trailers really don't do this movie justice.
Agreed
I was thinking the same thing! Dude has killed it consistently.
@@ghastedx4039 made me not want to watch it because of the ad. but I watched the first 5 min pirated and knew I had to see the movie. Super good
Hell is not "Holly".
Yes.
It is a lot fecking dumber than the trailer suggests.
I love how the lyrics “You’re the right kind of sinner to release my inner fantasies” perfectly describes the relationship between Hutch and Yulian
That's exactly what I thought too when I got to this part of the movie, perfect song choice.
Song name?
@@teachhimselfHeartbreaker by Pat Benatar
That little smile... "So you've chosen death? Excellent."
He did say "That piece just woke up, and wants to see how this plays out."
Oh, was that piece was so happy to be shot at.
Lel.
@Ban this youtube He can't stand it?
I really love this film, Hutch is an interesting character, hes not really out for revenge, like john wick, its more a story about self discovery, or re-discovery, that being mass murder and violence. It fixes his marriage, makes him happier, and through the film you have a hard time telling if hes loving it, or dreading it.
Hutch seems like a person who loves violence, but hates the idea of him being a violent person. I love his character.
He was crossing his fingers hoping for the fight lmao!
Your description is really spot on. Not a mass murderer but I am very good at violence but hate the thought of my friends viewing me as a violent person. It's like nah, im just good at throwing a switch on and off. I can't box or spar anymore because of current head trauma and it's been 7 years and fr fr it eats me up inside.
@@anthonyzullo That scene is perfect. I cant tell if he was hoping for the fight, or hoping things would cool down. He had the music tape ready, so I think it was the prior.
@@breadman2983 it's only the facts. He waited for the bus to pass to have them chase him still.
I relate to hutch in that regard
The way he smiles when Yulian fires a shot 0:33 and hits the windshield. He’s so in control of himself. He’s actually getting a kick out of it.
I watched it ...twice !!!!! That was a lot of adrenaline.
You can tell he's actually missed being in action, which is basically the whole point of the movie
I always thought he wanted to fight... and that him crossing his fingers was him praying that they WOULD come after him so he had a reason to kill them.
0:44 One of the smoothest car chase scene I've ever seen. No shaky camera, no multiple cuts. Just long shots combined with rock music. The clarity is what make this scene so good.
Right?! I was blown away at how...clean...this whole sequence was. There wasn't a flash of millisecond frames or jerky movements. It was filmed with steady angles and you were given enough time to process what was actually happening. Why did this film get so little attention?! i think it is one of the best action movies to come out in the last ten years!
He WANTS the chase to, that's what I think makes this scene so epic. He WANTS it, not running for his life. He's ASKING for it! It's like watching a junkie get their first fix after 2 decades of living clean.
and a howling V8 pass by
NO SHAKE IS great
love the music
What I really like about this scene was how in the beginning Hutch was crossing his fingers. You might think he was doing that because he hoped they wouldn't come after him, but I think it's the opposite. You can tell he missed this life so my take is that he hoped they would come after him so he could in turn destroy all of them.
My thoughts exactly, its the same thing as the drunks on the bus, he was smiling when he saw them, he was ecstatic inside that he had a good excuse to just go wild and put them all in the hospital. Protecting the girl was just an excuse, he wanted that violence and its the same here (plus did you see that happy little grin after the boss shot at him? 0:34).
Glad someone else caught this and felt the same. There is a moral ambiguity to that moment which adds such a wonderful depth to Hutch's character.
Yeah no that’s why he smiled when yulian shot out his window
he definitely wanted it
dah..
''Hutch.''
"John."

Both: *"You uh... working again?"*
The same director so a good chance they aren't too far apart.
@@carloz1536 or at the end of jw4 he needs some help so he goes to a place and finds a box with the cards symbol in hutch's hand , he opens it and picks up an old phone with dial pad...then says... its time
@@carloz1536 Same writer, yes. Different directors though. But yeah, a lot of the people behind John Wick also produced this.
We really need a crossover
@@carloz1536 yeah, since a bunch of movie production companies are doing cenimatic universe as a meta, john x hutch team up is totally possible.
I absolutely love when movies, such as this scene and in most of Baby Driver, make the background music actually part of the scene as well. I think it really lends itself to a feeling of immersion to feel like you're jamming out with the protagonist as he does badass things.

A perfect song would have been _"Dr. Feelgood"_ (Mötley Crue).
@@capitanfuturo594 Why that song, over Heartbreaker?
What about Elephant by Tame Impala?
Bob Odenkirk made this movie for me. When I heard that he was gonna be the lead character of an action movie I was questionable, as I couldn’t picture the beloved Saul Goodman being the star of an action film. Yet he total killed this role, I believed every second of it. What an amazing talent he is.
Ilya Naishur the director deserves most of the credit, and I'm sure much more of the crew. The guy is incredible and creating high intensity thriller art be it in music or film
From Better call Saul to Better call an ambulance... but not for me!
@@lordfriedrick7911 OOH! GOOD ONE!
He was brilliant. That calked carizma
That smile after the gunshot goes through the window is so satisfying. It's the inverse of John Wick's anger when he says he's back: Hutch is back, and goddamn does he love every minute of it.
I’ve watched this movie 3 times and I just noticed that haha.
Exactly...
John Wick: Quits and tries to make family... His wife dies
Hutch Mansell: Quits and makes family successfully... he also gets tired of it and wants to get back

The fact he crossed his fingers like, “Please Come Out, I know you know that I know you want to.” But still this movie was good and this is definitely a good successor to John Wick
I dunno. Ive seen the movie so many times as it’s so good. But I always thought - considering the conversation before - he was crossing his fingers hoping that Yulian WOULDNT come out. But would agree he’s torn
Playing Heartbreaker is perfect for this scene. The director and writers are brilliant.
This song is something else jesus
@@angelencarnacioncastillo5876 "Heartbreaker" by Pat Benatar 1979. Always one of my favorites also!
And Saul congrats to him too
I love the fact that they actually use the car a fair bit in this scene. In most shows and movies like this they just sort of drive and shoot.
Stuff like the way he uses the extra seatbelt to brace himself, leaning the seat back for cover, breaking off the mirror to look back. This whole movie was amazing at incorporating the environment into the fights.
I absolutely agree. I hope a sequel gets made one day
@@dallascimini3619 Being written as we speak.
@@hsehovic63 I hope so because this movie was great imo. A 10/10 for me.
I understand the bad guys forget to take out the release cord in the trunk, but I don’t know anyone who keeps a fire extinguisher in their car
I didn’t think he broke the mirror off, just adjusted the angle. The fire extinguisher was likely a by product of the car being used to drag race at the track, which required one in the safety rules.
The fact that the music starts and stops straight from the casette player is absolutely perfect.
It's as good as the Jack Reacher Chevelle chase was, no music and just pure Chevelle SS engine sounds
If you listen to the engine sounds for the Challenger, they're taken from the Chevelle SS from Jack Reacher.
@@Roadkill-Films Normally I’d decry that as a lack of attention to detail, but I think it’s acceptable in this instance because the Chevelle SS and the Challenger have basically the same engine.
@@zatchbell622 a 454 and a 440? other than being big blocks...eh, no. Distributors are at different ends of the engine, the 440 has small port heads for torque, the 454 gets the "rock crusher" muncie transmission....

@@Hjerte_Verke U ok bro?
An action movie where everything escalates not because the steaks keep getting raised or the bad guys crossing a line. It just keeps escalating because the protagonist wants it to. Really Hutch just wants to take on the bad guys because he's good at it and because fighting makes him happy.
This might be my favorite car chase seen ever. The music, the build up, and the way it's shot are golden.

I feel like him and Bob made this movie what it is, your protagonist can only be as great as your antagonist and Alexey played his role beautifully
Between letting him walk all the wwy back to his car, and the resigned way he climbed into the SUV, you know he seriously considered his offer to end the conflict peacefully. Such solid acting, especially given this type of popcorn flick.

Sountrack is from Pat Banetar (1979). One of my favorite Rock Stars.
this song with this scene "chef's kiss"
1:22 he was soo disappointed the bus stopped midway + they didn't break through that bus.
nobody called saul
I love how the front right wheel on the Range Rover is still damaged since Yulian's introduction. A lot of hard work and care went into this movie.
0:31 he just drove by and gave him the stink eye like"you know what you did" then when he got shot at, the man was happier than a fat kid on Christmas night who got the big turkey leg all to himself.
0:35 was Hutch smiling at the moment. Like saying so your coming after me than. Like he knew the Russian mob boss wasn't going to stand down. That grin on his face though. As if his happy to come back to what he really is. An assasin/auditor. When the mob boss shot his window.
I've always loved this song, and never realised quite how much it fits over the top of an action sequence. Tremendous choice.
This is what cinema is all about. Its got rhythem, and its fun!!!
This takes me back to those late 90's movies where where you could just unplug and enjoy the show.

Just by seeing him smile, I think he wanted this to happen
Another "Please God, open that door."

The way he drifted that U-turn and then slow down just to stare down the villain, priceless.
Those are some great tires
Probably my favorite shot in the film is after flipping the car, he sits up and makes this intense silent snarl. It’s one of the first times in the movie you truly see him emoting, as if violence is the only time he feels himslef
It pretty much is. You didn't notice how he changed after getting into the bus fight? He had new energy and the guy talks about him getting his fix.

He is a brilliant actor. Very well respected in the scene
@@iMost067 That's the point that this character is not default. He has a personality and looks real.
I shed a little tear for the '72 Challenger. 😥
I think my favorite detail in this scene is that the music ends because he turns the car off. It’s not the editor deciding it’s time for the music to end, it’s because the music is coming from the cassette player in the car.
Genuinely one of the best car chases in any movie I've ever seen.
The comedy, the music, the action, this scene was perfect!!!

0:08 I just like how he’s hoping Yulian would follow and try to kill him
i think he’s doing the opposite. He just tired to disarm his anger while still getting the even with him. That’s why he tried to say that he wanted out of the mafia.
Hutch is a person that isn't evil but still loves violence somehow
One of the best action movies in recent years. We're in the golden age of modern action
Thank you Pat Benetar, for writing the perfect song for a car chase, and thank you to this movie for realizing that
1:08 was awesome in the fact that it was originally from Baby Driver. This whole Baby Driver feel is really awesome.
You know what? I watched this movie 3 times until I was told, by my son, that Hutch was Saul...f'n blew me away.
I love the little kid-like grin at 0:35.
Wow the music choice!
Also, that gun sound at 1:01 is very satisfying.
Imagine John Wick vs Hutch Mansell
It would be great
Wick would win, but it would be fun none the less.
I feel like they just help each other honestly
It would be a stalemate
I'd rather see them work together.
Hutch would win honestly. His fighting style is more brawler,Wick just throws people around.
The song, the chase the long cuts. I LOVE THIS SO MUCH
Dying for a sequel ❤️🤞
It must be added that none of the vehicles made today could take the punishment of those old cars that were built like damn tanks.
Their mesh patterns were awful though, there’s a video release by Chevy themselves of a 60’s car ramming into a 2000’s car actually drove away from that, the 60’s car didn’t
I think that’s why Hutch decided to take it over the Merc. He’s thinkin “I need a car that can take some $hit.” No electronics, no gadgets, just big bore engine and body. Yes.
Why does this give me John Wick vibes?

The music selection had a huge part in how great this movie really is
This movie is so underrated, absolutely loved every minute of it, I watch it again every once in a while.
Loved this movie, even though it could have used more character development. At the start of this scene when he has his fingers crossed, I still wonder if he was hoping they would chase him, or hoping they would give up.
It doesn't need any character development that's not something you need when the characters aren't going through an origin story
I quite like how they left his back story open, it makes Hutch such (heh it rhymez) an interesting character. Could also be expanded apon in a sequel
I'd say the fact he smiled when yulian fired means he wanted it
That's the whole point of the film, right? A lil bit of both.
Remember the bus scene? He was literally begging God to "please open that door" and let in those thugs. He really wanted the fight, through and through.

The music hits hard af
I like how in the very beginning, where Hutch crosses his fingers, there is am ambiguity to the action. Is he hoping that the Mob will let him go? Or is he hoping that they won't? Hehe. This movie is awesome.
I suspect that as a veteran operative, Hutch knew that if Yulian did not react and bided his time it would be impossible to get peace or protect his family. Yulian could probably afford to send hit team after hit team after him or his family and sooner or later one of those teams would succeed. He had to goad Yulian into an angry reaction and he wasn't sure he succeeded until Yulian came out of the building.
