The media chooses what we should interpret from what Donald Trump says. They say he says "racist" things, but you looking up to news anchors as teachers, who wouldn't lie to you. They have complete bias and want you to interpret what he says as they do. Sensitive people naturally don't like Donald trump. Mentally masculine or chill people see Donald Trump as confident and a troll; I love trolls and people who invoke sensitive liberals. If you disagree, then stop listening to news and friends and interpret things for yourself; you will always be the most knowledgeable out of all you're friends, whether you be conservative or liberal.
To be fair it is very difficult for the average person working 9 to 5 to understand polictics no one has time to read a 500 page law being passed in congress.
Mainstream media, over the past 5 years, has proven to be completely disconnected with their viewers. Aside from maybe a handful that have actually learned from the 2016 campaign what sticks in people's heads, most keep doing the same old shit they've done for the past 2 decades and wonder why all their viewers are moving to online/alternative sources. It's not even a single party thing. Both liberals and conservatives have moved away from mainstream media to the point where both hardliners of each side call it "fake news". Now with this virus going on and many different sources, people subscribe to a lot of different sources saying different things about how dangerous it could be and it's affect on the world's economy. Those massive news groups have all on their own created extreme distrust on who the average joe should get their news from. It's obfuscated to the point where it all seems untrustworthy and you should just listen along ideological lines. I could go on but it's not worth it. It'll come to light what small groups are on top of the media eventually and it will fracture the current global empires. 250 years is the average. Just know that.
@Fluffynator That's partly true but entirely irrelevant. Do you remember how John Kasich, Ted Cruz, and Marco Rubio turned around and licked Trump's ass after he became the nominee? Zach it’s true, trump suuuucks, but I don’t think we know much about Hilary’s qualities. (I’m Canadian, the news was mostly Trump, Hilary was just in the background.)
I called it too, I saw how much media time the guy was getting and said “Brand recognition and free press, this guy is going to tear into whoever runs across him.” And he did, I wasn’t surprised by how badly the media reacted, but he let them prove his points (debatable if they were good or not but still) and then he used simple language to steamroll anyone else. Hillary by contrast was far too formal compared to Trump and her talking points were ok, but what really sank her was the “Deplorable’s” speech. That alone ensured her probably most of the possible swing state votes that occurred in places like Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Florida.

Yeah this might be a disservice that memes did to use more than anything. People have gotten so hung up on pwning the libs with Twitter memes that basically never talk about actual policy, and when they do, it's with idiotic and hyper-simplified "memey" concepts which might be good for getting your message around when you don't care about facts, but are actually terrible for discussing political ideas effectively. Probably Trump won BECAUSE of this. His strategy basically consisted of turning off people's brains through a saturation bombardment of simple, braindead meme-format ideas. As it turns out, people are quite vulnerable to that, which is not surprising since US elections are basically reality shows.
The_Blazer So you disagree with your political opponents because, in your mind, they're horribly wrong about everything and the only way someone could believe what they believe is if they're an idiot. Aflay don't you mean shocked Trump? Because Hillary Clinton had the popular vote. Trump won because he was a joke to the left and was zealous prophet for the right meaning that trump supporters would go ape shit in the elections while a lot of people on the left wouldn't even bother because of how pathetic he was, assuming he'd lose. And those trump supporters were radicalized by "memes", a lot of them being targeted by paid actors, and once those actors had their propaganda moving, the Internet did the rest. Electoral college can be exploited if you are guaranteed that a loyal voter population of 70,000 will be present. Its mostly because the former is pretty concise, foward, and clear about who it is talking about and the message it is trying to put out rather than the latter which is ambiguous and kinda just makes the person saying it look out of touch. It also helps him that the Democrats absolutely insisted on running Hillary as their candidate despite how much she was loathed, even by members of her own party.

who then did absolutely everything she could/the DNC did everything they could to piss off, demean and alienate the second most popular candidate who a huge portion of the party really believed in, saying the supporters of the guy who has an incredible history of being tolerant and suppporting civil rights were bigoted and sexist as opposed to the candidate who wasn't 100% for, say, gay marriage until the mid 2000s it was really just a master class in how to blow an election
I can piece together some of it to understand why Trump won. 1. The was controversial yet confident with results 2. The meme of this man was peak 3. The after failures of Joe Biden and all Democrats on pleasing the public. 4. Kamala lack in campaign or confidence to really speak up rather than blaming Trump. 5. Trump story was an underdog story and in the end he triumph.
Also Kamala was already in tremendous disavantage because of how late it took for Biden to resign thus making her campaign far less effective than Trump's who already done that before and was in the public consciouness for more time and more popular too.
It doesn’t matter how much you disagree, how much you dislike the guy, how much you’re looking forward to any potential impeachment process, no one can deny that pulling this off was damn impressive
Not really. It's mostly circumstance. The type of person Donald Trump is, combined with the opponent he faced and her absolutely cringe worthy campaign and past, combined with the type of meme-y humor the younger demographic that would support him was into.
He shaped his experience as a business tycoon into the presidential world, and he blew the competition out of the water. He basically had 5B handed over to him for ads, Hillary couldn't handle that, let alone the fact that of the people that gave their opinion, it is highly likely that the Hillary posse slacktivised (refer to Kony 2012) their way into defeat.

The other massive thing that should be considered is that usually after that one blunder that turns a candidate's bid into a laughing stock, the big backers (read: the guys who shove that sweet sweet funding) go away, leaving the candidate to eat up the last of their cash before being forced to give up since they can't run a campaign without money. Trump was *his own funding* through the whole ordeal, meaning a blunder wouldn't end his run. It's more a sidenote about why his campaign didn't entirely crash and burn right at the very start.
Discounting /pol/ is a mistake. Their influence is overstated, but it really was essential during the early stages of the nominee process. They were the only ones on the internet who pushed for him at that time, and their early attempts at memeing him layed essential groundwork down the line as to how the internet viewed him. They played a major role in establishing a loyal cult centered around him that endures even today, and it was all for shits and giggles.
Maybe it's my bias of not wanting to give credit to /pol/ for anything important, but I'm skeptical they were all that important, even in the early stages. I fail to see how any memes /pol/ might have birthed influenced anyone besides young voters and people who browse 4chan or Reddit. Most political memes don't convince people, but reinforce their previously held beliefs. That isn't to discount /pol/'s undeniable influence, being a 4chan juggernaut, but my point is that I really think Trump would have won with or without /pol/'s meme making. As for their motive being shits and giggles, I sincerely doubt this. Nobody on 4chan does stuff for the lulz anymore.
True, the people who got the ball rolling were a 'small clique' in /pol/ that had more detailed motivations and reasons to shill for him, but most of /pol/ and especially 4chan initially supported him because they: 1. Expected him to disrupt the modern political order that they hate so much (he of course did this, though not in the way that some expected (no wall, no race war, etc.)). 2. Found it fucking hilarious that Trump was genuinely bullying some of the most powerful men in America, not to mention how much fun they had with the debates and rallies he held. 3. Wanted to spite all the people who told them he was a Nazi and other such garbage claims (if anything this made them like him even more, though; to the point they started hoping this rhetoric was true (see point 1)). As you can see it is more complicated than 'shits and giggles', but it was still a very large part, and definitely the biggest reason for why his popularity shot off on 4chan so well. As for how /pol/ played such a large role, even you have admitted that the majority of his young supporters have at least been unknowingly influenced by /pol/. This alone merely proves my point, as it is these younger voters who lay the bedrock of his loyal movement, who are most passionate about Trump and what he represents, and who spread their ideas amongst their family and friends. On top of this /pol/ users were oftentimes the only sizeable group on the internet that supported Trump, against a mountain of hate and contempt. This proved decisive during the early nomination, when Trump faced republicans whose voters had scarcely used the internet outside of business and normie entertainment, and allowed his movement to swell and dominate the online debate and spotlight over the nomination, especially since democrats were distracted and refused to take Trump seriously at the time. At this stage, what Trump did for mainstream media, 4chan did for social media.
4grammaton Well one could also argue that /pol/‘s stunts around that time that were swelling in pitch helped to spread the memes across the web. I mean for crying out loud they got a News outlet to take Pepe seriously enough to make him a Hate symbol. No shit they sent the lady racist pepe memes and other stuff for laughs. They also probably shared the memes to several sub reddit’s and on facebook, twitter, and through other online pipelines (ones that weren’t too edgy mind you). You can almost treat them like political cartoons in a sense, and I also find the age assumption to be a bit off. True it tends to be the younger crowd that surfs the web, but I know tons of these memes made it into the hands of much older citizens. Some of the memes he used even helped fuel controversy and secure even more Air time. So in a way, like it or not /pol/ did something. Do we all have to agree with their positions, nah, but their method was extremely effective. Whether or not their effects on the current political climate are any good, are completely up to everyone else. But it must be said that perhaps they have more power than many wish to give them credit for, simply because they unabashedly play with edgy ideas.
Wait, a video about politics changed your opinion and caused you to like Trump? But that...that... I need to go lay down. This is too much for my liberal brain to handle.

"A lot of Americans get mad about politics, but very few Americans actually _understand politics_ ." - Never in my *life* have I heard a better summary on herd behavior.
Its happened with the anti sjw movement. From people who know about politics to merely normies calling people sjws for being "edgy" and following the popular thing, despite them not knowing why SJWs are so disliked. And its not only for their views...in fact that's about only 55% I would say...
If Normie's continue joining, the movement will become nothing more than right wing sjws full of strawmanning...
Its straight true.
What American people don't know why sjws are hated? not many I would imagine.
So. One man sumed up the winning of trump better than most of the mainsstream media. Congrats.

True, the people who got the ball rolling were a 'small clique' in /pol/ that had more detailed motivations and reasons to shill for him, but most of /pol/ and especially 4chan initially supported him because they:
If anything, it was more likely that it was a few savvy people in Trump's media campaign that decided to set up an early base of psy-ops in /pol/.
I only know of cults in California and what is /pol/ (ex. Is Scientology, which is fucking weird as shitttt!!!)
I don't know if this was your intention, but this video made me go from not really caring about Trump to frickin' loving the guy.

I am glad that you used the correct definition for the term "meme". Most people think that memes are merely images transmitted on the internet associated with a humorous caption.
Who?
So true! I learned about memes in Marketing class in College in the 1990s when the internet was just AOL and there was no social media
More like the word took a new definition. Words are like that. Taking a new meaning. Mouse, keyboard, tablet, computer, desktop, and screen are some of the examples. Languages evolve. It's called semantic narrowing in the case of meme.

@@twinzzlers Nope, no proof, other than he said she said
not really. he's changed his tune it looks like. a lot of those shit hole countries are places the United States has interfered with, if you actually read a history book. the US constantly interfered with Latin American countries in the 20th century, currently wages a shadow war in Africa, and has been interfering in the Middle East forever. Trump used to claim he was against the Iraq War, now he's kept us involved in Iraq and is nearly doing the same stupid shit and getting us into conflict with Iran. the US illegally supported a coup in 1953 to overthrow the democratically elected Prime Minister of Iran, Mohammad Mossedegh. Trump used to say Bush made a mistake when he went to war with Iraq and he let 9/11 happen. meanwhile Trump has cozied up to Saudi Arabia, 15 of the 19 hijackers on 9/11 were from Saudi Arabia and funded by Saudi Arabian government officials. not to mention half the country is poor or near poverty and the "economic success" the media is lying about, is not real
