I was lead to your video from a video on the new Pegasus nautilus. This is fantastic! I have ordered the product and will be applying it. I want it to be a masterpiece and this is how it's done.
I wish that Hallmark would put out a miniature ornament of "The Time Machine", with spinning dish and lights! That would be the ULTIMATE Christmas ornament!
Ever see the miniature Hallmark ornament of this classic movie prop? Not nearly the size or realism of this build-up masterpiece, but the little replicas are impressive!
Bob I'm just getting the Pegasus Nautilus, your course on painting an weathering was very well done, an simple to understand with your technique, but without it, I would not have known how to do this. I will be buying these products I have been modeling for fun for 30 years off an on, never really learning all these Awsome skills. I'm also buying a lighting kit from voodoo fx an Para graphics stuff, would sure appreciate a crash course on how to light it up properly, an what too cut out, an how. Maybe I'm asking a lot, but after seeing your master pieces, I want mine too look professional as well, picking it tomorrow, found one by luck locally in Ottawa ontario, Light kit coming next week. Thanks for your time. Darn your wheel house with switches, looks great. Michael.
Michael, I have quite a few pictures that I took during the buildup. If you head over to my site I just added a few showing the buildup process with LED locations. Go to my site at rc-sub and then click on "display models in various scales" and then scroll down to the Pegasus project near the bottom.
Excellent, I'll check it out today, I was going to take a course but my Hobby shops lost their lighting guys. Fortunately I have a friend who's an Electrician, an is willing to come an help me with this, should have the lighting later this week. Thanks for your time, I'll be visiting your site more often. M.
Would like to know where you picked up this great size Nautilus where can I purchase one that is my question all the others are too small to work with..???
Hi Bob, I have a scratch built 6' Nautilus started, actually it is going better than I thought. Do you have any detail parts that would fit on this size model? Looking for a prop and the deck grates. Also, do you sell the 31" as a kit ? I didn't see it on your site . thanks in advance, really enjoy your videos. Jeff J. SubCommittee member since 1993,
Such a stunning and convincing look! But I've always been concerned that these real-metal rust agents will continue their chemical reaction, and eventually ruin any painted topcoats that might be applied.
Many thanks for this excellent tutorial. I've just acquired one of these kits and am looking forward to reproducing your painting scheme. Can I ask, do you know of any product that might serve as a close equivalent to the Modern Masters Metal Effects iron paint that might be available here in the UK? That particular item is kind of hard to get hold of here and very pricey to boot.
I do make my own powder from chalk pastels that I get at my local craft store. I just use sandpaper and sand the sticks into fine powder and apply them with a brush. I can't recall the manufacturer of the pastels off-hand. I'm not overly brand loyal as I haven't found any supplier for these that is so vastly superior that I would go out of my way to buy from them. I hope that helps!
Bob, Love the video...Would your painting technique, including all the products, as shown in the video, work on the resin kit that is available? Thanks
Robert, the above kit is actually resin as well. I assume you're talking about the smaller,16" kit? I would actually recommend against using this technique on that model, as the details are much smaller and the rust solution actually has a fair degree of "bulk" to it, which can obscure smaller details in small scale kits.I would go with a wash of diluted rust paint in those applications rather than the real rust solution...
It looks amazing

Awesome walk-thru Bob as always. A true expert in action.
Great tutorial Bob.

The Pegasus model Nautilus is a nice ship but it is not the Nautilus as you see this guy putting together his ship is the Nautilus

Just got the old masters replica's prototype resin kit 32" and will use this paint and technique
Einfach nur genial !
Great video and channel. I am not a sub builder but man your techniques are extremely helpful.
The main question is if you use the activator instead of vinegar, does it smell less?

Can’t find where to make photo

MUSIC FROM WHAT VID?
Is that 3d printed? If so, where did you find the files?
No, it's not 3D printed. It's a resin kit cast from molds.

Do you make your own Pastel Powder? If not, what brand/supplier do you use? Thank you.

Yes I was referring to the 16" kit. Thanks for the info.
