First thing I did to my QV was get a Global Telemetrics system fitted.. monitored tracker and immobiliser. Also use a Disclock to discourage the amateurs (pretty handy having the start button on the wheel).
I'm very sorry for you, but the way in which Giulia's Q and Stelvio's Q are stolen via the radar connection has been known for more than 2 years. A copy of the remote control is made via the can bus and your car is gone. That is why aluminum sleeves are sold that, after installation, make access to the can bus via radar connection very difficult/impossible. An electronic block of the can bus is also for sale. But the most important thing is to have a vehicle tracking system with immobilizer and signal jamming... I couldn't even insure my Stelvio Q without this system.
The record, stealing a not properly protected Stelvio Q in the same way was 30 seconds in broad daylight in Italy while the owner was having his lunch in a fastfood restaurant nearby …..
Mine was stollen 8 weeks ago from London as well. Police gave up less than 24hrs after. At least you got a phone call - I got an email. I bumped into another owner who had his stollen off his drive. They found it quite quickly though because it had a tracker and he was notified very quickly. The only security device that’s worth anything is a tracker (perhaps two of them) and maybe a couple of Apple Tags. It’s very sad because the Giulia Quad is a stunning car, but I won’t be buying another one because of this.
The quad really is a fantastic car! It seems that Quads in London are giving Range Rovers a run for their money for being 'most stolen' in London by the looks of these comments! Sorry to hear yours went as well! Out of curiosity, which part of London was it removed from?
@@NaturallyAspirated mine was stollen from the Crystal Palace/ Norwood area. I don’t live there so this was a spare of the moment thing for the thieves
This is how they stole my stelvio yesterday at 2am. I wish I had learnt about this vulnerability before!! Two things that would have stopped this. 1. There is a device you can buy which is basically a stainless steel shield which prevents them from being able to access the port/cable. 2. Ghost immobiliser, so even if they do gain entry and create/clone their own key. They won't be able to start and drive off without the access code. Other than that, I am not sure anymore. Police don't care or investigate, so they won't stop doing this
I am deeply sorry for you, I know how it feels. My Giulia 2021 was stolen last year. The mother fuckers used exactly the same way they took your car (front radar to unlock the car). I was lucky after a week I found it abandoned and damaged (cables cut off). I hope you’ll find yours somewhere, fingers crossed. Good luck
Thank you for your message! I am sorry to hear you went through the same experience but very happy you got it back! Where did this happen? Is the car back to full working order?
I found out about this was of theft a few months after I bought my Quad. Disk lock will have slowed them down a lot more. But there are devices to secure the radar which I fitted to mine just for piece of mind. Gutted you had to lose yours to find out about this though 😔
Gutted for you. The annoying thing is that the thieves are always one step ahead with the technology. I had not heard of this problem with the radar detection port until I saw your video. Alfa needs to warn people and make sure it can be put right. But how do the thieves find out about it in the first place. I bet other cars may have the same weakness as the radar is a Bosch system and fitted to other makes and models. It appears that at least one company is selling a guard to protect against this happening. I think all car manufacturers should be doing more to help their customers secure the cars as some do not even tell them about Faraday pouches or protectors for the OBD ports. Surely the insurance companies should do more as well. As you showed even the steering locks are useless to stop the professionals. It just annoys me that they can get the info and the technology online and nobody does anything to stop them. I think if they really want your car they will do anything. I would have a tracker fitted and put it in a locked garage with an alarm system. Better still we should insist on a police force and legal system that actually cares about the hard working citizens and victims more than the criminals.
@@NaturallyAspirated they need to do something as the Giulia QV is already an underrated beast which deserves to sell better and this will not help. I am hoping to buy one at some point but I will have time make sure this problem has been resolved and make sure it’s as secure as possible.
@@NaturallyAspirated it won’t put me off as I know they are very special. It’s just unfortunate that the thieves seem to like them more than the average people who do not appreciate them and do not buy them. Like I said I just need to be careful and make it as secure as I can.
Gutted the quad was stolen! You hear thefts happens a lot but I never realised how quickly they can do it - the manufacturers should be held accountable for sorting the security out
Almost everything is vulnerable to this type of theft, they just need to get access to the CANbus system and in the case of Alfa Romeo that's through the radar, for other cars it will be other ways. This is the problem of adding everything electronic to the cars CANbus or whatever they use system to save the excessive volume of wiring now required to operate everything. It also makes all the parts more expensive. Everyone needs to add aftermarket security to cars now. Cars shouldn't have their security systems on the same network as everything else in the car, they should be totally independent of light radar etc. Bring back an upgraded version of the old 'red key' type security Alfa/Fiat used to use.
Dont take the first insurance offer hold out for more. It will be a low ball offer. This is quite common with Guilas with front radar detector. Basically they unplug it and access the cars system to unlock the car and reprogram the key. The newer cars are more securely attached but it just means more damage when they remove it. There are devices on the market now to stop this on these now. Sorry it got stolen it was a lovely car 😢
Thanks for your message Robert, we can't believe this isn't a call back issue! They aren't many in this colour which makes it even more devastating if it is destined to be broken for parts!
Thieves actually stole my Giulia’s radar sensor, not the car. I found out to my cost unfortunately that it’s a hugely expensive part so worth stealing in its own right. The part was £974 to replace then it has to be fitted and recalibrated. Park it against a wall now on my drive. Apparently this theft is also popular on VWs which also have a very easy to access sensor.
Yes maybe so another method is a metal plate that fits over odb port this protects it being got into. I’m in the process of finding out more myself it’s a simple fix but a right pain to fit as front bumper needs to be removed.

Shrewd decisions all round! Hopefully Giulia and Stelvio owners see this comment and follow suit!
Wow incredible. Sorry for the loss. Hope you get some kind of justice, compensation, or closure!
Appreciate the message, hoping to give full updates in the new year!

Out of curiosity where are you based? We heard of another attempted theft yesterday but the car was saved by the ghost immobiliser!
Gutted :( hope you get it back, please report it to Alfa/ FCA, make it viral and whatnot, hopefully they can do something about it....
We are hoping this video goes someway of bringing it to the attention of owners as well as potentially FCA!

Thanks for your comment Robby, we are absolutely bamboozled that this isn't a call back issue by Alfa! Not sure how they can get away with it?!

Devastated for you guys, I’d be crying if it was me
Thank you for your message! It certainly wasn't a pleasant experience for Ed!
Was it actually harder to steal older cars that didn't have any fancy signalling stuff and only required a keyblade to unlock and start up?
Unsure to be honest, however it doesn't seem that the problem has been fixed !
I'm surprised you could insure this without a ghost immobiliser.
Sorry guys for your loss looks like a ghost is the only way they getting wise to this method 😢
I think even Ghosts are getting worked around at the moment as well! Its a crazy world out there

North London N1 (Shoreditch)
Not far (relatively) from where this our one disappeared as well!
😢😢😢
Terrible news.
A daily EV and weekend toy does sound like a great idea though!
I think a little inspo from the tesla x Vx220 combo is def playing its part!
Fuming
