Other manufacturers get their drivers to wear a race suit, I love how the Italians set a Nürburgring record in t-shirt & jeans lol.
with driving style like that, i don't know which suit will help you.
so, they prefer to go away beautiful )
Yea, germans installed a rollcage and multipoint seatbelts in their panamera, italians were like: Hey Mario, before you go with your family to disneyland, do us a favour, it won't take long, here's your helmet :D
i thought almost the same lol. super lazy, this looks like "Mario" just took a fun round on nurb between two pizzas...but accidentally it was a lap record. ha!
Because an Alfa Drivers drive like this. I'm Italian.
Txs guys i laugh a lot ;-)
When they said "Italians do it better" they referred to the style ahah
I love that chat, I'm italian ahahah

I would love to see a manual gearbox in this beauty (but sadly they stopped manufacturing it), but I totally agree with you.

Beautifully said brother!
So true. His dad (Giorgo Francia) did pretty well racing and developing the 164 procar dtm 155s and many race and road cars for Alfa too as did his son Fabio, cooler than a cucumber in an ice box even at 190mph. I just can't seem to remember what alfa called the 952 platform..... Great work family affair an the best automotive brand. Others try but are left waiting and wanting. Bellissimo! Forza Alfa.
and that after a plate of spaghetti and a bottle of wine! even more impressive, amazing record!
I love how the Italians put a racing driver in jeans and a t-shirt and a helmet of course to set an amazing lap time. The Germans are going for full race suits and still get beaten by a guy in a t-shirt :D
Italian quirks you know!
Kalin Stefanov beacuse t shirt is lighter 😂😉😉 love my country ❤

It is good to see the Italians back in their sheer madness mode. :)
Welcome back Alfa, we missed you, and we are so grateful for the 4C and the Giulia Qudrifoglio. :)
Fellow Traveler you made me cry with this message 😭😭😭😭
That's the only mode they have, they just took a properly Italian nap...
4C, Giulia and Stelvio, such great cars. FCA just need to present them in the right way. They cannot present them as BMW alternatives, they're a thing on their own...
I owe a Giulia. The 150hp thing. As many dreaming of the qf, but watching this guy the investment would be wasted. I raced bikes, but would never drive any car like this!? Fuck, he's good and fast!!
4 years later and 4C is killed off... Typical stupid Fiat policy. In the 70ies even Fiat could go toe to toe with BMW, now they have only 500, 500L, 500X and Tipo with 1 liter... Alfa's been left with 3 models only... Gulietta QV killed off as well. Fiat is the real General Motors of Europe- destroys anything it get hands on!

Brilliant comment, by far.
Everyone that has ever driven this car (like I did) knows that it’s not the Kw’s or the NM’s that make the difference, it’s the shear impeccable steeringqualities of this car. Driven Audi’s, BMW’s, Porsche’s...but the steering (precise, nimble, sharp) of this car is in a class of its own.
@Marco Moncada That's interesting. Everyone say that even the worst FWD Fiat clone models like 156 and 159 have something special about their handling.
Absolutely correct.
I drove my 18 QV back to back with 18 M3. Steering on M3 was far short of inspirational compared to the Alfa. Left right transition felt almost American muscle car like I the M3.
I'm sure the new M3 improved on that, thanks to the Alfa QV.
And I have just looked at lap times of some cars... this Alfa is quicker than : Ferrari 458 Italia, Porshe GT3 RS 997, Koenigsegg CCX and CCR, Nissan GTR 2011, Lexus LFA, Mercedes AMG GTS, McLaren 650S, Veyron, SLR, Zonda and many others like Panamera Turbo 2016. Most shocking thing is that Alfa is 20 seconds faster than M4.
I know! The Panamera S just did a lap at 7:32 aswell though, btu this Alfa is amazing.
One problem I have with Alfa's are their engines. The normal engines donæt really look that impressive. BMW's 2 litres diesel produces 184hp. Alfa's 2.2 litres diesel produces 150 or 180. Not too impressive and if I'm not wrong they have very low ratings aswell /:.
That's a shame.
On the flip side, the BMW M3/M4 has a 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline-six with 424 bhp, whilst this has a smaller 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 with 503 bhp.
adelachaudh j
Interesting that a Camaro ZL1 with 10 spd. automatic logged a time of 7:29.6 at the Ring. Driven by Drew Cattell, a Camaro engineer, NOT a pro racer. And he left the tranny to do it's own shifting, never touching the paddles. Not too shabby for a showroom stock $65k American coupe.
@adelachaudh The 2,2 l diesels actually produce around 280 HP. The model called "Alfa Romeo Giulia 2.2 JTDm 150" (or 180) doesn't produce 150 (or 180) HP, that's just the number of the model :) The specs are actually pretty impressive.

What a car and what a driver! No rollcage, no racing suit...just a maniac with an Alfa! Awesome job.

Driver: (see video)
It was a about 14 years ago when I first sat into AR seat. Was looking for a new car and AR came into focus, I had pretty neutral view of AR at the time - had not owned or driven one, so I was neutral. The moment I sat in - was AR156 Twin Spark Selespeed - I was like "wow!", I mean, it just fit perfectly, like the best leather glove you've ever worn. Everything was aimed at the driver, all dials, steering wheel felt natural in hand, seats were perfect.. And I've driven and tried many other cars, quite good ones among them but somehow it felt "right" in AR.
I remember how about 3 years later 159 was announced and when I saw its images for the first time, I was smitten. Absolutely amazing design. I went to AR dealership and asked about it and they said they haven't even seen it yet, so new it was. So for a while I kept visiting the dealership periodically and asking "when's the new 159 coming?" and one day they said, "now it is!". I got pretty much one of the very first ones brought into my country and it was amazing.
4 years after that I went for a new car again and this time I got AR 159 TBi Ti. I loved that car especially since every single bit of that car I chose, I had better situation with funds at that time. Every extra, every bit and piece was selected by me and the end result was amazing. To this day it's considered one of the most beautiful and best AR's which has driven on the streets of this country.
Sadly after another 4 years life changed and I had to change many things in life as well. That AR159 went away from me and I switched to another car, but AR's been on my mind all the time. When I heard of Giulia, I kept scouring the internet for any and all details I could find on it, but AR company had been very successful in keeping it's details secret. Impressive, usually new car details are found out soon enough but Giulia remained hidden practically all the way to the end. When AR dealership got their first Giulia's here, they called to me and invited me over to look at it and do a test drive. Because they knew that it's something I love and been waiting for a long time. The very moment I sat into the new Giulia felt like "welcome home!" moment to me. Unfortunately I cannot afford to buy one for now since the life is just getting slowly stabilized, but I've seen it finally and at least was able to try it. But I promise that if I will win the lottery, one of the very first things I will do is head straight into AR dealership and get to myself a new AR, a red Giulia. And yes, Alfa Rosso red, to me AR can only be red and nothing else :)
Awesome story, thanks for that. Haven't even driven an Alfa myself, but I can't wait to try one.

This video was unreal. It seemed like he was constantly either sliding or recovering from a slide at such high speeds and the brutality of the Ring really comes through in seeing the car get knocked around. There were moments in this video when I was truly scared for that driver. Unbelievable skill and courage.
If you've ever tried a good 1960s F1 sim, that's the way they drove back then. Continuously sliding and recovering, cars as loose as the devil, tires screeching, big balls. Videos like this one reconcile car lovers with the concept of fast driving itself.
Most insane lap i've ever seen love that he went through the finish on opposite lock haha, perfect way to end it. That driver has titanium balls
1:49... Holy shit!
Yeah, scary as hell. I would almost certainly die if I were there. I am not that quick.
the main problem is not quickness but over correction at least for me
Tire pressure sensor said the same.
Insane, impressive, holy shit
how is this as quick as a McLaren 570S?????? I mean, who needs supercars with their impracticality and useless functionality when this family hauler can beat a supercar around a challenging track?
This family car is the fastest sedan on the market... Alfa Romeo, set the stakes very high for other competitors to compete against it... Hopefully coming this summer, they will have different color options...
And this is the stelvio QV SUV!
Nicolas D.
In the description it says it's a Giulia, not a Stelvio
It's not really though. I love how everyone falls for marketing so easily. All people should listen to Chris Harris and Harry Metcalfe's podcast. They basically state how all manufacturer times at the nurburgring are highly suspect and not to believe anything a manufacturer tells you.
I love the Giulia but I don't for a moment believe that a 4 door saloon could every be as exciting to drive as a McLaren 570s which weighs almost 400kg less and has more power.
It is ludicrous to suggest that these two cars are in the same category of speed. Put them on track at the same time and I guarantee that the McLaren will be miles ahead.
Take your McLaren and shove it up your pork pie English pale ass!
A few big counter-steering moments, definitely pushing it very hard.
Chasing the best time on N-ring is about pushing it as hard as possible...
Especially liked the tank slapping corner at 6:47 , followed by the head-shake _"I know better than that"_ 6:51
Nice catch
Needs more stiffness.
Until the early 70s, Alfa Romeos were much more desirable (and faster) than German sports sedans. After Fiat bought Alfa the brand went downhill, because the Fiat people wanted to destroy the brand that out sold them in the higher priced sedan category in Italy. They did the same to Lancia, by the way. I remember driving an Alfa Giulia Sprint Speciale (ok a sports coupe, not a sedan) a friend loaned me to drive to Munich from Livorno, Italy back in 1972 or so . We passed every German car on the Autobahn once we got to Germany. Even the 2002 Tiis didn't stand a chance, even with 400 more CCs. . Glad Alfa has been allowed to return to their roots.
Fred Montelatici sei un grande
Untill late 70s ieven Fiats could go toe to toe with BMW. 124 Special T, Spider, Spider Abarth, 125s, 131 Supermirafiori, 131 Abarth, 132 2000, 130, Dino...
4c 8c giulia stelvio ... these are not cars, these are "emotions"! there is no one german car who can give the same!
It is glorious to see finally an Alfa sedan that car tear the M3, C63 and RS4 a new one.
I can wait to see the Giulia on North American streets.
What about the RS6? }:)
Malapropify
Not in the same category; the A6/S6/RS6 is one size larger than the Giulia is competing in. Nobody will cross-shop a Giulia to a RS6. An S4 or RS4, maybe an RS5 if they don't mind a coupe over a sedan, but not an RS6.
How many laps does RS6 endurance at full speed without brakes getting into flames? 2?
Raúl O. *Endure - and actually, with ceramic brakes it can do quite a lot.
So tyres will have to be ceramic too, otherwise there is no way to keep a lap time over the time. It's too heavy for Nordschleife.
1. The driver is insane.... and thank you for not wearing special "racing gloves" for 3 thousand euros.
2. The car is fast as hell...

Great vid, superb driving and a great car!
No doubt this is a fantastic car, especially considered the price point, but chapeau to Fabio Francia. He drove the car like a maniac and he had a couple of hair-rising moments. I know that the surface of the Nürburgring has a lot of nasty bumps and it's not in the best of conditions, but it seems to me that Francia was fighting with the car the whole lap. I had trouble sitting still while watching this. Before flaming me, go and check other on-board videos and you will see what I mean.
Ah... I almost forgot: and he did it without wearing a race suit, on a standard seat, and just with the normal three-point seat belt. I don't even think that the car had a rollbar. At one point I saw 284 km/h on the tacho. This borders on insanity.

Roberto Totaro -- modern cars have built-in roll cages (sort of) -- they have side intrusion bars like a roll cage, and the A, B and C pillars are heavily reinforced like a rollcage which forms a rollover protection system. They are relatively safe in a rollover, compared to say a 1970 Giulia, which is indeed completely unsafe in a crash and will crumple like a tin can! :)
@@TassieLorenzo he's refering to most car company have extra roll cage added to provide additional safety for their drivers when they are doing laps on the ring, but the additional roll cage also adds additional chassis stiffening which makes the car quicker

Wow what an aggressive and fast driver...there was a big moment at the curb after foxhole. Respect for your balls and driving skills!
255kph coming down on bumps and doing corrections.... balls of steel. Crazy video!
Great lap, stunning lap time, very good car control. Two narrow escapes any other would have crashed.
Alfa is back , bye bye M3/4's , Audi rs 's or MB AMG's.
I bought myself one instantly and love it.
Jeeeesus! More thrilling than a movie! 😅
After seeing this and finding out it was Motor Trend Car of the Year 2018 ... I purchased this car. Am so amazed by its suspension, Steering precision and power. I have a few race cars but, this is the most fun.
That’s awesome, in joy it in good health brother!
che auto che pilota, ragazzi sto video è tanta roba w il mady in italy grande fca grande Alfa
I hear BMW M3/M4 fanatics crying loudly right now..... lol

He's not driving it like he stole it.
He's driving it like he's possessed by the devil himself!
well said!
He drives like an ALFISTI! That's how you call an Alfa Romeo fan.
+analconda Does the devil have a driving licence?
alfista,alfisti is plural

Respect to car and driver
Good grief. That was like watching an accident that lasts for seven and a half minutes but without the crash at the end of it. Total respect to Mr. Francia for how he conducted that beautiful Alfa Romeo.
so agresive driving! amazing lap around the ring! cheers alfa!
Holy shit!!! From 1:18-1:52 is some of the most incredible car control I've ever seen. He is right on the edge of what is physically possible. It also shows just how bumpy and rutted the nurburgring is. There's a terrible jolt every time he goes over a bump. And that noise!!! Sounds like a wolf.
well driven , you can see so well how the suspension works magic in this alfa and how extremely important is to have the best suspension possible , you can put any size of engine in a car but if the suspension sucks then you can't dream of doing any real fast driving
RIP Mercedes and bmw
Dom Dom buhuuuahhhahhhhaaa 😈
watch?v=pZ6T5WsBf_I in a 2 ton luxury sedan which is much more stable in corners only 1,5 seconds slower but all the luxury we can live without that no worries. Under that bonnet is still a ferrari engine because Alfa now is too shit to produce anything that works.

Alfa is the mother of Ferrari, so what’s your point.
ANTONIO FAMÀ più sorella che madre
Street or Semi-slick ? The driver had massive balls also ! Good car AlfaRomeo !
Street (sure, fast but homologated for the street).
the record would not have been approved if car was not a "road car"
mmmh I don't know, the grip seems very good, Seat did that for exemple.
Tyres are Pirelli Zero Corsa. This is the Giulia you can drive on the road.
Ok thanks so :)
They are horrible in the wet, from what I can read. So, they are probably quite good in dry conditions :-)
