BRO STOP BRINGING REPRESSED SHOWS BACK INTO MY MIND, also Iron Man better be your next review man
its specifically called: iron man amoured adventures. if that's the one you're referring to. after all, it aired along side with speed racer
EDIT: i commented this before watching the video XD
this show feels like a fever dream
*It better fucking be!* 🔫👈😠
I just finished that series after several years since it's release. That show was way better than this by a lot
@Tyler Coon of course. He is a man on a mission.
Interestingly enough, another reason why this show may have ended up on hiatus is due to a lawsuit from the Japanese company that owns the IP. They noticed their intellectual property being used without permission and not being compensated, so they sued and won. This might explain why not many people are aware that it existed. 😅
Yeah, tatsunoko was fucking pissed about how Nick aired a "sequel" to their original show. It's also the reason why Speed racer had no representation in tatsunoko vs capcom since the rights to the Speed racer/Mach go go go property was in being fought for like crazy
Wat-
Whoa so that explains the cancellation/ hiatus. Given that many other americanized anime sequels were also sorta happening at that point and all of them were bad, I honestly though this show just got canned. I didnt realize Nick was trying to pull something technically illegal @u@.
@@JuFated Just be glad Voltron show from Dreamworks was different enough and good to not be a ripoff of that Japanese show as it uses I believe three anime shows to form Voltron from the 80s. Plus, that show was better than Voltron Force hands down.
What’s the source of that info
@@damiendelacruz728 Anime News Network
All I remember of this show was a racer who had his exhaust port in the diver seat & had a cool arc where all the characters had to fight (not drive) but actually fight to the death some of the original Speed Racer Villains.
me too
The villains were the Mammoth Car and the Melange iirc.
@Jonathan Menzies obvious bait is obvious. don’t spam, dude.
@@Cattafang sorry
@Jonathan Menzies Sorry
People talking over each other is actually kinda cool imo, it always bothered me how in shows people always take turns talking perfectly
Yes
Home movies is a good example in that the conversation feels real
Only time when they talk over each other in movies is when they don't want you to understand anything, which is really unrealistic
Oh god you’ve unlocked SO MANY REPRESSED MEMORIES WHY
The theme song was something I always associated with a dream I had where I was in my old middle school where everyone was green for some reason. I was told by someone to go to health class where once I opened the door I saw a pitch-black void that contained an ostrich with udders it said "milk me my child" so I ended up milking the thing and it told me to drink its milk. upon drinking the milk, I went through an acid trip while the Speed Racer: The Next Generation theme song was playing. I was now floating through a tye-dye Esque void listening to the song to its entirety until the dream ended.
Wat
Fascinating.
Oh you have those type of dreams too glad I'm not the only one.
wtf
What kind did of dreams were you having my guy
As dated as the original series is, it's a lot more entertaining and (dare I say) sincere. And while the English dub can be extremely cheesy, I think it actually heightens the show's charm. It's like the Adam West "Batman" series, or "Jonny Quest", or the original James Bond films - they're goofy and hardly as serious as our modern media, but that's what makes them more enjoyable and fun as a result.
I'd rather have something memorably silly and campy than something ultra-serious and highbrowed that's really drab and monotonous to watch.
same with the Sam Raimi films, like GodzillaMendoza said in one of his videos, their campiness is what seperates them from the rest of the cinematic iterations of spiderman lol
Speed Racers (the original) is incredibly dated, but it has soul. It's fun to watch if not just to laugh at the animation and voice acting.
Even the 1997 anime reboot that was dubbed as Speed Racer X runs laps around all of the americanized versions
Of course I remember this one. I watched it all the time on Nicktoons. If I remember correctly, it had a gimmick where all the races would be done in VIRTUAL REALITY, and there was one episode where everyone had to outrun a giant version of Conner in a loincloth.
Also, I forgot just how bad it looks.
Actual line from the first episode of the original Speed Racer:
Speed, after being shot at during a race: They were aiming for the windshield. My father must have etched the Mach 5 plans into it.
I remember this episode im pretty sure they made saw blades on the Mach 6 to cut down trees so Speed wouldn’t have to try and avoid them
Literally this show was so sick back in the day and I wasn’t even into cars or racing
This is correct, and so is @calebook7720 's point, where yes, it does have sawblades, but they can cut more than just (virtual) trees. Also, I know all of this because I own the episodes on DVD.
@@carking0138yep same! I got the first 3 episodes and the fast track on dvd! It came with this game I loved growing up where you got to race X after doing some practice kid me loved it and the fast track was such an episode story arc
I actually I loved this series. I didn't care about how shitty it was, I loved everything, and I still do.
I liked X always end up coming to help Speed even if they didn't know each other for long, it made me think that they could really end up as one happy family...
Same
Same
This was like the first show with a more over arching plot that actually got me really invested.
Hell yeah homie.
Speed Racer is a guilty pleasure for me. I enjoy riffing it. Speed Racer: The Next Generation is living in the shadow of the original.
I actually really liked this show when I was younger aka kids can be dumb.
I remember watching the first 3 episodes of the series very young and revisited it much later randomly when season 2 came out (found out that it was a full tv show since I watched “the beginning” as a movie) and wondered what the hell happened when time travel and weird science bullshit were being used regularly. Honestly it got progressively more bonkers so I wasn’t surprised to hear it went under. And season 1 was tolerable, just season 2 made me question what this was
I've seen bad animation, we all have. It looks cheap.
@Jonathan Menzies Just like the track. That's why racecars don't need headlights
I use to think this show was good.......oughhhhhhh man I was dumb!!!!
As a 26 year old who still hasnt seen any of the og Speed Racer I actually liked this show.
Funny thing about this video is that I Interned for Animation Collective in 2008. That's the company that actually developed and made this cartoon. LIons Gate Threw money at it. I worked there for 3 months and it was...an experience. This company was in NYC and I Worked on Speed Racer the Next Generation, Thumb wrestling federation and I got to see how they made Threes Delivery and old things about Kappa Mikey. I was a Flash Cutter and compositor. Basically I would take the story boards and Cut them in a way where it would sync with the Audio files so that the flash animators in one of the other studios in NYC could animate. Most of the other animation was sent to CANADA to FatKat Studios which is NO LONGER AROUND. (that's a story for another time)
I'll admit it was actually stressful. Deadlines for animators (who were ALL VERY stressed) were very strained. They hired interns to do work that was meant for people who originally got paid. The office was Not big at all but was comprised of 3 studios in different parts of Manhattan. One of the studios was Basically Larry Swartz's house! He lived on the top floor. There was a lot of Drama and Financial tension during the production of this show. People wanted Money and this as I continued to work became a huge problem.
Now about Season 2, It was actually developed in 2008. I got another job Compositing the Cars with the Flash in the first episode of season 2 together in After Effects! It came out in 2011 because the company ran out of money due to bankruptcy. There use to be an article about this on Cartoon Brew and now the company was not paying its Employees its "mysteriously gone" . FatKat Studios (which was a Canadian animation studio) also had a hand in helping them with their animation as well and due to a lot of demands Animation collective had that studio are now gone.
One good thing about working there was that I met Peter Fernandez the original voice actor for Speed Racer. I had to Deliver Tapes and Audio to other companies and I ran into him. He told me that this company wasn't good and were cheap. Wise man he was. He signed a badge I got to keep. He was also SUPER sweet and knew that this cartoon was Trash. But he encouraged me to do voice acting. I'm glad you released this because there is a lot more to this story then meets the eye.
Ok was this the one on nicktoons...I can’t remember at all I remember there being an all cgi one like iron man armored adventures. Is this that and my memory is wrong?
?? they're two different shows
There was an iron man cgi show that when on at the same time as this show
I don't remember speed racer but I do remember iron man armoured adventures with it's awesome intro theme
Bro I was thinking the same thing but cant find it. Am I nuts???
Same. I thought this show was all CGI but apparently not......Another case of the Mandela Effect....i don't remember this show even having animation.
Oh man, this and Iron Man on Nick, this shit was my childhood. I remember this all too well, it is still one of my favorite memories of my childhood related to television. I remember it very fondly and remember seeing a bit of the original and then seeing the stuff happen in this one as well. I also remember as a child how horrible the wait for season 2 was, and hoping for a season 3. It felt so much longer as a child. This shit was one of my actual favorite shows as a child, and I still remember a lot of it. I want to go back and watch Iron Man Armored Adventures now too.
The theme song is pretty fucking great too, love it.
I still can’t believe that I still vaguely remembered nick advertising this show. My god did those ads not even bother to make this show look good.
BRO THIS SHOW WAS MY CHILDHOOD
yes i know it sucked but it was like Johnny Test for Nickelodeon for me
IM YELLING I used to bop to this AND Iron Man: Armored Adventures!
OH SPEED RACER NEXT GENERATIONS I REMEMBER THAT SHOW
I definitely remember this one! I remember watching the first season, and was pretty invested. But then Iron Man Armored Adventures came out and Speed Racer was immediately sidelined for me
If I remember correctly, this is actually the fourth Speed Racer media I watch through my childhood. The other three were Speed Racer X (1996 reboot, specifically the Japanese dub), the rerun of the 60s anime, and the live action movie.
I USE TO HECKING ADORED THIS SHOW WHEN I WAS A YOUNG LAD
I never remember finishing the show but I do remember being hype a lot for the episodes and races
And yes anytime I try to reference this show, or hell even look it up there is very little info or hearing of this show at all witch is a shame because I remember loving it
It's another show that I feel has been lost to time like el tigre or, the secret show, action ledge now and even mr. meaty shows I use to watch all the time on Nicktoon Network
noah strzykalski given the show is now lost media due to the original Japanese company at the time suing the company that at the time own the US rights to Speed Racer. The Japanese won and that is why you see Funimation own the rights to MachGoGoGo. (Which was called Speed Racer in the west)
noah strzykalski me to
Same I loved it.
I still love the show. I remember I had X's car when I was really little. I can't find it anywhere online anymore but I know you can buy the Mach 6 in a DVD on Amazon. I plan on getting it eventually.
I remember that that X guy (the main rival) ended up being Speed Racer's brother or something???? I DO remember this though, I'm glad someone's talking about it!
Edit: Nevermind you summarized that character pretty well, carry on.
I love this show! How could the genius behind Thumb Wrestling Federation and the visionary company behind Norm of the North and Foodfight possibly make anything terrible?
Yeah I watched this show when I was younger. I remember enjoying this series as a kid. I don’t hate it. Nicktoons back in the late 2000’s and till 2013 was seemingly its own Network. And not just dumping ground for Nickelodeon
Man I loved this show. Stan is best man. He is hilarious and we will quote everything he says.
Season 1 was great, but season 2 went downhill. Time travel and dimension travel got really out of hand.
I agree with both of you...both seasons was good but I was confused and had so many questions about season 2
"Time travel and dimension travel got really out of hand."
I missed out on stuff.
I remember watching it, but with what you said, I'm very sure it was just the first season.
@@seant1326 Same here. Because of the hiatus, the last episode I watched was the one where the original Speed Racer finally comes back, then a clip show like a year or two later.
Personally I thought the concept of alternate or parallel dimensions were actually a cool idea, but I wasn't a a fan of the time travel, but when Speed Sr. dies, y'know technically the star of the series, you need to bring him back, and since magic doesn't exist in Speed Racer, time travel was the only other option.
I still have the DVDs from the show. I used to watch it all the time before school and life happened. XD
I fucking loved this show. Hopefully it still holds up
Edit: Guess not. but i feel you complained waayyy too long about the names.
It's Over 9000 Productions
It’s got a lot of problems but honestly I wouldn’t really call it that bad of a show. I can tell the writers were at least trying to tell a story.
I remember this show. I was a massive fan of the show, and I always wondered why new episodes kept airing so infrequently. Looking back, I think I now understand why.
I remember this Cartoon, Just like i remember Martin Mystery and totally Spies, and Kappa Mikey Everyone i talk to doesn't remember Kappa Mikey.
Martin Mystery was fucking amazing.
Totally spies was a guilty pleasure of mine
This was a memory that was violently ripped from the darkest depth of my mind
So I remember this series, and remember having dvds for it, but I was under the impression it was just a trilogy of movies. A quick google search has helped me realize that that's because the 3 dvds I have are movies, although I think these movies are just episodes of the show. The movies for the record being "The Beginning", "The Fast Track", and "Comet Run". I remember the beginning being about Speed arriving at the school and character introductions, as well as getting the Mach 6, so I assume they just packaged up sections of the series that had connected episodes and made them into movies
This show
Iron Man: Armored Adventures
Voltron Force
DBZ Kai
AtLA
Back to the Barnyard
Monsuno
Those where the shows I grew up with when it came to Nicktoons
Never thought I’d hear about monsuno again, one of my top favs
I remember Martin Mystery and Kappa Mikey on Nicktoons.
As of 2021, there’s actually an archive channel here on yt called Speed Racer Episodes, there’s two episodes from the original missing but for the most part everything else is on there
Season one of this show was amazing, season two not so much. Nonetheless still a staple of my childhood. Friday nights at 7:30 were always my favorite time of the week.
I enjoy Next Gen Season 1, and the non-altered timeline segments of season 2. I personally find that whilst the final arc did bring back Racer X, it ruined Ziles redemption Arc.
I remember binge watching this on vacation when I was a kid because our rental house had cds for this…I can’t believe I remember this
Holy shit this has dug up memories from my childhood, I remember being sick, up at like 1 or 2 in the morning watching nick toons, and seeing this show. Holy fuck I need to find the other late night crap I used to watch. That’ll be a good laugh.
I could have sworn that speed racer the next generation was just a figment of my imagination. I only remember that there was a green car that could spilt in half.
Lol, I was thinking the exact same thing
The only reason I watched it was because I was waiting for the next show listed on the tv guide. Lol
I was starting to think I mixed the original Speed Racer with some other mid 2000s show
I grew up with this show and I still watch episodes of this show to this day.
I remember this show, Iron Man: Armored Adventures and Voltron Force
Voltron force. That's a name I haven't heard in a long time.
And Supah Ninjas shows during that time are easily forgotten..
Still better then the new adventures of speed racer. Yes that exists.
I remember this show as a show I liked because I didn’t entire like some shows during that cnreal phase of Cartoon Network but this show was not as liked as iron man armored adventures
@Jonathan Menzies they are far from the best shows ever.
Damn I used to love this show as a kid but no one ever remembers it. I only watch the first season tho
Dude this series was how I learned about Speed Racer in the first place! XD
I actually really liked the story plotline and such for it, and would watch it again while laughing at how bad it looks and cheesy.
YES
I would watch this along with Iron Man: Armoured Adventures 👌👌👌
My father grew up watching speed racer the the 60’s, showed me the same show as a kid and watched the next generation for the first time thinking it was trash. However many years later, I decided to give next gen a try again, turns out despite all the weirdness like animation, characterS and sometimes even the plot, I enjoyed how in connected the old show to the new one in some aspects.
oh my god i forgot this show existed...
*the memories-*
edit: fun fact: this show was on nexflix a couple years back, along with Iron Man.
This was actually one of my favorite shows as a kid.
Also there was a third show Larry Schwarz created, Three Delivery.... can't believe I've forgotten about it until you reminded with this show
I think I watched Speed Racer:The next generation! I only remember being a little scared of it during a high tension scene...I think....
BROOOOO THE MEMORIESSSS 🥺🥺🥺🥺😔😔😔😔
*oh hey, Its that one Speed Racer show I saw on Nick as a kid... oh god*
I remember Speed Racer: The Next Generation, I remember it being full of random jokes and being totally unserious
THIS WAS A GREAT SHOW MAN I WISH TO SEE THIS AGAIN
This show is such a cursed memory plus the wizard 101 soundtrack in the background emphasizes the curse
Speed Racer may not be a good show, but it’s a gold mine of laughter.
I mean it is a good show. If you can find even something remotely small to enjoy about the show, it's a good show.
As a kid growing up in a place where we only had three channels on TV, one of which aired one hour of cartoons a day, one of those cartoons being Speed Racer, it was unironically one of my favourite shows as a kid. Revisited it YEARS later as an adult and somehow fell in love with it even more BECAUSE of its awkward faults. At the very least, you can never say it's a boring show :D
I remember watching this during the weekends when my parents would run errands with my grandma. She was the only one with cable so we sat in her house and watched this, whatever else was on nicktoons and kappa Mickey lol. I just thought it was an odd fever dream.
This was on Nicktoons at night. I’m the only in my family to watch TV that late.
Weekends were big for me
I thoroughly enjoyed Speed Racer : The Next Generation. It was just good fun
I can’t believe I saw this show as a kid and almost forgot about it.
Me and my brother is used to love the show during Christmas a year after we discovered it both of my brothers got DVD sets for fast track and that rally one which came with a mock six Hot wheels
Thex Next Generation: *Is on NickToon*
Me, watching it on CN: ...wut?
Honestly I grew up on the OG Speed Racer. Still binge watch it to this day, and honestly it's the only franchise that actually hasn't been horrendously bastardized by hollywood or crippled by sequels.
YES, Next gen is a thing, BUT, it's just as campy and over the top as the original, even goes as far as to give 2 full episodes of fanservice by bringing back the fan favorites, the Melange X3 and the Mammoth Car as antagonists for a 3 episode arc.
And you might think the Speed Racer movie is trash, well, it kinda is, but that's what makes it great. It's trash by Hollywood standards and even modern movie goer standards, but to someone like me who is deeply familiar with the series, and still watches all 3 to this day, it was the perfect Hollywood Anime Adaptation.
EDIT: I forgot there was a spinoff movie of Speed Racer that was animated, but it seemed to still pay homage to the original, keeping the characters pretty much the same personality wise, but had a wierd 90's teens look to it. It wasn't great, but it was still kinda fun.
I remember seeing speed racer the next generation
thank you for bringing back these memories i repressed so hard
I Watched this show on Netflix when I was six and six year old me thought it was one of the coolest things he had ever seen
This reminds me of how Code Lyoko went when they came out with 'EvoLutIoNs'
I used to watch with my cousins when I was a kid, fun times, though I still tried to forget it but the theme song is stuck in my head and won't get out
Well yeah, this is what happens when westies try to make their own remake/sequel/whatever to an anime.
Yes, Speed Racer is an anime. Specifically, it's a dub of the anime Mach GoGoGo.
And Voltron is a dub of Hundred Beast King GoLion, a really terrible mecha anime.
Fei ironic as Dreamworks made a pretty good animated version of Voltron. Just we don’t mention Voltron Force! That doesn’t exist.....
@@NitwitsWorld voltron legendary defenders is good for the first half
7 eleven homeless man it was. Later seasons including the final season just went downhill fast. I’m hoping they make a new Voltron show for 2020 at most. Though they might change it a bit to be not the same as the previous Voltron show.
@@NitwitsWorld yeah I rather stick to Beastking Golion than the later episodes of Voltron legendary Defender
Brayan Argandona Florentino okay
I just remember watching this show the day it came out while also trying Eggo's muffin tops for the first time. After that I just randomly saw it on here and then. It's one of those things I remember fondly but don't actually remember much about.
I worked on the animation for almost all the episodes of season 1..... I can answer all your questions..... all.... of.......them. :)
If you'd be open to an interview give me your social media
Was the budget of the show low? I know that at animation collective CGI got expensive so they had to scrap it
This used to be on Netflix I watch this as a child
I used to watch this show on nicktoons back when I was like 7 and that would've been in like 2011 so it all makes sense that I got to see it now lol
but I never thought the animation looked that bad honestly....and I liked the show as a kid so may have some nostalgia for it Idk
for the longest time, i thought this show was a fever dream. I always tried to find it on any streaming website i can find and most of them didn't have it, and they don't even play reruns of it. this was probably one of my fav cartoons despite the dated effects, kinda sad it's severely underrated.
I only have vague memories of this show as I sometimes watched it when I was a kid back when it was airing on Nicktoons, but I didn't really finish watching it or even got that much into it because that was around the same time that my mom and I were watching Avatar the Last Airbender and it was a much more interesting show than Speed Racer
I saw advertisements and heard about it but was never able to watch it. This video gave me some good nostalgia from the other shows that you used as a comparison to that weird sequel
I remember this. I used to love it when I was young. And yeah, Iron Man: Armored Adventures was the shit.
I remembered this show as if it was a great show. Then years later trying to find this show again and I came to this, I was in denial and said this cant be the show I was remembering. Man, what was kid me thinking....
I had a grandfather whom's first name was L. Nothing else. Didn't stand for anything either.
Death note
I remember the show! From what i rememeber of it i actually liked it at the time but now all grown and with my nostalgia glasses off, yeah it hasnt aged well.
i wish i dint remember this show....
@Jonathan Menzies hmm... how should i put this? I think no is antiquate enough. So no. I refuse to waste my time re-watching something that is "not very good" to put it lightly.
I remember watching this cartoon as a kid and thinking it was the *coolest* shit *ever* and I repressed it until now and like...holy shit....I’ve never seen something so bad
Speed Racer: The Next Generation has such crappy animation that Transformers: Beast Wars looks better.
FUCK YOU
JUST
FUCK YOU >:l
@@SpeedRacer2468 Those people were right.
God damn do I remember this series, I remember loving it
Boy was I a dumb child back then
...and he brought this review to us without explaining the contrived and idiotic concept of the virtual track used in most of the races in this show. I feel that should have been elaborated a bit.
agreed, after the bland character growth, the virtual track always bugged me the most. Like, if that's all virtual, then where does the car just disappear to... Yu-gi-oh 5D makes more sense.
Other than the 2008 Film bombing at the box office, this show is a key factor as to why we won't get a Speed Racer reboot any time soon.
I actually grew up watching the original speed racer and really enjoying it. I remember seeing half an episode of the next generation and switching the channel. The original one is by no means great, but compared to the next generation it’s art. It’s sad because of how ugly the new show is by comparison. Weird, I haven’t had to think about either show in like 8 years so this was a trip down memory lane
That's my story with it too. After discovering the original through some very obscure means, I found out my dad had a DVD of it. I watched it & loved it; it was some of the most action packed stuff I had seen at that young age so it was exhilarating. However many months later, I see the ads on Nick about Next Generation. All I had to do was look at it. It probably took me five seconds to be absolutely disappointed in how it did not seem to resemble the original at all, and unfortunately, I never gave it a chance because of that. Speed Racer is a property/franchise that rarely ever gets attention, so that must be why it's such a trip down memory lane. Literally the last time Speed Racer was relevant was ten years ago. I have been hoping the series could get some new life for a while, but it doesn't seem that whoever owns Speed Racer is trying...
Responding to you at about 3 minutes. Yeah, I’ve heard of this show. I watched it religiously as a kid up until about the end of its run. If I remember right, new episodes gradually began taking longer and longer to come out (months, a few months, like a straight up year???) and then it just dried up completely. Season 2 of this show was a wild ride. They just went off the rails with the story.
edit 1: okay hit the part where you hit the crazy release schedule of season 2. life was crazy
the only thing I know about speed racer was the original one with the clip "He's going over that cliff"
edit: here's the clip in question for those who don't know what I'm rambling about ruclips.net/video/IY9YNF5MMQo/видео.html&pbjreload=10
good god the thumbnail brought back SO many repressed memories from 2008
Dude I remember that show and though it was good yet cringy at times I still have the movie and one of the other dvds for it (fast track and the beginning)
I remember being heavily into Speed Racer when I was 9. I even did the pose at the end of the intro. I don't remember much about Next Generation except the first few episodes on DVD
Speed Racer: The Next Generation is one of the worst cartoons I ever watched.
I don’t know why I liked this show as a kid. Maybe I’ll give it a second chance (I was an idiot back then)
You want me to send you a link to show you there really is a worse cartoon, i have dozens of examples.
Oh kappa mikey...i need to rewatch it..i loved it when i was a kid
Lol I actually like this show
These random videos appear after i think ive watched all your content and im just like "Where the fuck was this one hiding"
8:34 when the sunset overdrive ost kicks in
Okay I've actually watched the entire series again recently the whole reason they went back in time is because speeds mother was the person in charge of the Shadow organization in the car went wonky when it was being tested originally you know the mark six and ended up scoring her face and killing their grandfather and I think his grandmother I forget that part
So this is why Speed Racer is a dead franchise
I REMEMBER THIS OH MY GOD YOU JUST RELEASED A FLOOD OF WEIRD MEMORIES
