I was pretty sure you were a girl solely because shun was the fangirl character of the show Bullying? How and why did you get bullied for liking bakugan? (I still have my Baku-merch tho)
That sucks. Bakugan was huge when it first came out, like everyone had those toys and I remember having bakugan fights with other people (my brother is still upset I lost the exedra and centipoid characters that we received, I am too D:), but I didn’t get bullied for it but was rather encouraged
Power100 If you're talking about popularity, Blue Dragon did not take off at all. I didn't hear about it till 2010-ish and most casual anime watchers in the west won't really know about it
That really is one of the most understated strengths of Dan. He’s anime protagonist who actually has to work and think for his victories, and it’s fine if he doesn’t always win.
That's one thing I loved about it. Dan lost bunch of times. And each time the loss was pretty heavy. He did not have heavy plot armor unlike a lot of anime protags
I will vouch as a Canadian, bakugan was pretty big back when I was in like, grade 1-3, I vividly remember bringing my bakugan to friends houses all the time, or friends wanting to hang at my place to play bakugan heavily because I had so many of them, since like you I got them whenever I could, birthdays, christmas, whatever money I got as a kid. Think I still have the box somewhere actually, I'll have to look into that
Honestly I love the anime, the first one was by far the best imo but season 2 was alright, I just really wish they had kept more of the strategy the first season had throughout the series I always remember the fight between Shun and Komba where Shun beat 2 of his bakugan by blowing them onto mind ghost causing them to both get defeated instantly
@@gavinsmith9871 In my humble opinion, it's because the game itself matters less and less the further into the plot we are. Like, for example, Ren losing to Fabia in season 3 episode 26 should not happen, if one does count the numbers that are convieniently not displayed on the screen.
I had a Darkus Fear Ripper with 450g's as my very first Bakugan ever. I was so stoked I found one that strong. I legit felt like Masquerade with Hydranoid. Course it helps that me and my friends completely ignored the official rules of the game and played by the show's rules and with the show's ability cards. I watched every episode repeatedly, recorded all the names and effects of each ability I saw, and we played using those instead of the boring shit the company put out.
@@StarboyXL9 That is so incredibly cool. None of my friends were into bakugan and i was too dumb of a kid to play properly so i never learned the rules until i was 12 or older
The logic behind this in the show is essentially the same as in the actual card game. Notice that Kaiba isn't surprised because Exodia is super rare, he says (paraphrasing) "Impossible! No one has been able to *summon* him!" That's because it's super impractical to have your one win condition be drawing into 5 specific cards with no support to help get them out. You'd have to go out of your way to make a deck dedicated to stalling your opponent and drawing cards, which likely wouldn't go well against most well structured decks. And that's why no one really runs Exodia, both in the show and in real life.
@@justanothercommenterwithan9089 It's really not. Even with 3 Pot of Greeds, with a 30+ card deck you're not that likely to find all 5 pieces very quickly. There are still other cards besides Pot of Greed that let you draw as well. They could just run Heart of the Underdog. Plus there's also the matter of hand destruction effects that would screw with it on top of that.
Definitely would love a continuation of Bakugan reviews. I watched all seasons and rewatch them every so often, but I do think that the number of aliens and invasion plots are outrageous and becomes like power rangers by season, not episode.
I remember I was a kid watching the first season, when mom walks in, sees a battle and is worried if it's too violent (my younger sibling/s were watching too). I literally had to try to convince her that the show had a lot of good family morals like friendship and teamwork, when in reality I just wanted to watch it cause it was cool and I had the toys... Also, one time for a creative writing project, I just wrote out (in detail) the beginning of the Bakugan videogame. (It was published in the student year book and stands as probably my greatest school achievement...) *(**#PlagerismFTW**)*
i had to beg my parents to let me watch the show since they also thought it was too violent, the agreement was that it was the only show like this i was able to watch (i wasnt even allowed to watch pokemon)

Come one how many want them do do a port of the old Bakugan Wii game? I want to have battle's with Leonides again on the Switch, heck they could even update the game by adding online support, so you could battle other players it would be so damn cool.
I love that game! Hell I still have it! I just can't find anyone IRL to play it with. If they made it an online game with multiplayer pvp that would be awesome, so long as it was the original game and they didn't change the rules/mechanics or something. Dammit now I gave myself nostalgia
Anybody else have a table at elementary school that would chant the opening theme song almost every day? My school even GOT IN ON THE HYPE and put a show case of rewards up for reading so many books or something. There was all kinds of bakugan packs waiting on those shelves, and the kids had a new favorite past time.
I rewatched the first few episodes to see how the series held up in my eyes and I got quite a few hard laughs at how cheese the voice acting is, but it was so enjoyable at the same time? It’s like an animated version of all the live action power rangers fused with Yugioh and Pokémon. That being said the new series feels so soulless and so does the main cast, at least the original played around with some interesting concepts for their characters and the world building they did with Vestroia.
Matti -Bonne I think it's because they have to play it safe. They're probably wasn't a lot of funding and with today's over sensitive parents they probably couldn't get away with actual consequences of characters actions or real stakes.
This show was my childhood, so much in fact I had the 2009 game on 360. Oh and the Alice twist I would've never have predicted at 9/10 years old. Nowadays yes, but not back in the day.

I remember it. That show was awesome, Loved the first game they made for it. Leonitas . . . being able to choose what attribute he was (Always DARKUS). Must've replayed that game at least 10 times
I remember back in elementary school we don’t know how to play bakugan so we just play them like how marbles are played…it didn’t end well due to some parts being fragile.
Did you know what has the pretty similar lore elements to the first season of Bakugan? The answers are the fourth season of Digimon and the first one of Beyblade.
I remember playing a Bakugan game on the Wii as a kid, for some reason I distinctly remember the menu select voice being the character saying "I should (verb)", I remember me and my friends making jokes about it whenever we were about to do something. One line I remember especially well is "I should change my clothes" which plays when you hover over the menu option to change your characters fit. This brings back so many memories.
31:37 yea the actual real-life reboot game is alot better as a whole than the real-life og game. Im not a fan of removing the gate cards, but on a whole, its more strategic I guess. But anime-wise, the original is miles better.

I think it is a requirement for every kid born in 2004 to love this series
I remember how I loved this anime and the toys! Shun was one of the first fictional characters I had a crush on! I’m a girl and I was bullied for liking Bakugan, sadly. I’m also sad that I lost a lot of the cards and toys.
I was pretty sure you were a girl solely because shun was the fangirl character of the show
Bullying? How and why did you get bullied for liking bakugan?
(I still have my Baku-merch tho)
Mustache D. Luffy I’m pretty sure I just lived in an unaccepting community, and other kids didn’t like me that much to begin with.
That sucks. Bakugan was huge when it first came out, like everyone had those toys and I remember having bakugan fights with other people (my brother is still upset I lost the exedra and centipoid characters that we received, I am too D:), but I didn’t get bullied for it but was rather encouraged
This show was good when it came out. This did better than Blue Dragon in my opinion.
17:35 Shun's Mom actually died in that flashback, the dub tries to play that off as her "going into comma"
X Scythe 4 kids I know you’re hiding
Yup even as a kid I knew something was off
I will vouch as a Canadian, bakugan was pretty big back when I was in like, grade 1-3, I vividly remember bringing my bakugan to friends houses all the time, or friends wanting to hang at my place to play bakugan heavily because I had so many of them, since like you I got them whenever I could, birthdays, christmas, whatever money I got as a kid. Think I still have the box somewhere actually, I'll have to look into that

Honestly I love the anime, the first one was by far the best imo but season 2 was alright, I just really wish they had kept more of the strategy the first season had throughout the series
I always remember the fight between Shun and Komba where Shun beat 2 of his bakugan by blowing them onto mind ghost causing them to both get defeated instantly

@@gavinsmith9871 In my humble opinion, it's because the game itself matters less and less the further into the plot we are. Like, for example, Ren losing to Fabia in season 3 episode 26 should not happen, if one does count the numbers that are convieniently not displayed on the screen.
A hero isn't the one who always wins.
He's the one who always tries.
Brooooo i remember bakugan it was so good!
And i remember that i will play all day with my pyrus reaper
I had a Darkus Fear Ripper with 450g's as my very first Bakugan ever. I was so stoked I found one that strong. I legit felt like Masquerade with Hydranoid.
Course it helps that me and my friends completely ignored the official rules of the game and played by the show's rules and with the show's ability cards. I watched every episode repeatedly, recorded all the names and effects of each ability I saw, and we played using those instead of the boring shit the company put out.
Joel Gawne I feel so pathetic thinking how I was back then. Nobody followed the rules ever they became action figures 😂
My first one was actually a Ventus Fear Ripper! And I think had about the same amount of g's as well!
@@StarboyXL9 That is so incredibly cool. None of my friends were into bakugan and i was too dumb of a kid to play properly so i never learned the rules until i was 12 or older
Remember how exodia wasn’t actually rare, it was just that people were too lazy to make a deck around it
The logic behind this in the show is essentially the same as in the actual card game. Notice that Kaiba isn't surprised because Exodia is super rare, he says (paraphrasing) "Impossible! No one has been able to *summon* him!"
That's because it's super impractical to have your one win condition be drawing into 5 specific cards with no support to help get them out. You'd have to go out of your way to make a deck dedicated to stalling your opponent and drawing cards, which likely wouldn't go well against most well structured decks. And that's why no one really runs Exodia, both in the show and in real life.
@@Jason_Altea ok but pot of greed is legal in the anime so your point is invalid check mate
@@justanothercommenterwithan9089
It's really not.
@@Jason_Altea that's not even mentioning shit like mill decks or plays done with maxx c
Definitely would love a continuation of Bakugan reviews. I watched all seasons and rewatch them every so often, but I do think that the number of aliens and invasion plots are outrageous and becomes like power rangers by season, not episode.
“Spectre Phantom,” literally: “ghost ghost.”
@@drazzie22 really? I would have thought pokemon would be easier to convince them it wasn't violent since a lot of them are cuter and cuddly-er...

But seriously. Bakugan was my jam as a kid and it still is to this day! I loved collecting the toys, cards, accessories... I've even got a few dekas and customized a few Bakugan to look like the ones in the anime! I'm such a huge Bakugan dork that I even desire to make my own Talking Bakugan one day using whatever technology the talking Zoobles used (does anyone even remember Zoobles at all?). Ever since one of my friends brought a Darkus Dragonoid to school and showed me what Bakugan was, I was hooked. Which explains why I damn near cried when I couldn’t see anything about it for months assuming it was cancelled
well you can buy new ones too! Not to mention Ultras are very highly detailed, but are extremely hard to close without practice. My goal is to buy Darkus Draganoid Ultra, which may not be in shops yet, but I did saw a character card of him.
The reboot did only one thing right and that was make a legitimately really good card game that I adore. Seriously, can't get enough of that.
LOL kinda forgot light was an original element for these guys. Skylanders was the one that introduced light and dark later. Come one how many want them do do a port of the old Bakugan Wii game?
I want to have battle's with Leonides again on the Switch, heck they could even update the game by adding online support, so you could battle other players it would be so damn cool.

Kazuma DoubleIce leonidas was the best. Wish the game that came after was a sequel to that.
@@karystmania5509 Yeah I did as well to bad that it wasent,
I love that game! Hell I still have it! I just can't find anyone IRL to play it with. If they made it an online game with multiplayer pvp that would be awesome, so long as it was the original game and they didn't change the rules/mechanics or something.
Dammit now I gave myself nostalgia
As a person who still owns and regularly plays the game, if they remade it for the Switch I would just DIE of joy.
Dan has a overly cringey voice but DRAGOs & Helios Eng VA is god tier.

Oh and the Alice twist I would've never have predicted at 9/10 years old. Nowadays yes, but not back in the day.

I did but I barely had any. Least the new version made the cards far more relevant.

We played with all the cards and even used the color coordination rules too
We did but we allowed as many as you wanted on the field so the field would just be a mass of cards

I remember playing a Bakugan game on the Wii as a kid, for some reason I distinctly remember the menu select voice being the character saying "I should (verb)", I remember me and my friends making jokes about it whenever we were about to do something.
