For non Logic users, there's a similar preset in Garageband called "cascade" in the "experimental guitar" section. Just watch where his other presets are, & play around/experiment on your own. Hope this helps. Good luck!
I’ve been a fan of Hammock for many years now and am glad I found your video! I’ve been wanting that sustained soft reverb tone for awhile now so thanks a ton man!
@aurae band - Sorry, RUclips is not letting me reply directly to your comment. As far as the preset goes, are you running Garageband 9 or 10? I checked one of my older machines that is running 9 and the preset is not there.
Thank you that is wonderful! This is so nice I finally have the answer I was looking for. Thank you thank you!!! If I can ever repay for all your generous information and knowledge let me know what I can do for you! I can now sit back relax and make my own ambient music!
Jake Carrano - Sorry, but your settings won't allow me to reply directly to your question. If I were using an acoustic (assuming that it has a pickup), I would plug it into the computer, and set up GarageBand in the same way for the most part. I would probably leave out the guitar amp model, as this would degrade the acoustic guitar tone.
I really appreciate your videos - Thank YOU! May I ask a question...? I followed step-by-step and when I got to the experimental guitar section, I don't have Dream Canyon as an option. Is there a way I can get that? If so, would you be willing to tell me how??Thanks so much ~
Great stuff!! However I’d rather use this style than “high end” petals that are $249+ just for one, when you can acquire some sweet sounds with GB + some EQ and reverb and delay settings. Plus, different pickups produce different tones as well.
very cool sounds with GB.Is that a Carvin Alan Holdsworth you're playing? I haven't seen one of those in a very long time. I'm going to try to find those sounds with my mac. Rich and full with lots of space. I don't know who hammock is.
For me, this is a better option than real pedals. No batteries, no wires all over the place, no hum, you can drag and drop them in different order, it syncs with the tempo, and you can record it.
+TheRicanLover Good points all, and the great thing about setting up patches in GarageBand is that they are transferable to Logic and MainStage 3, allowing you to keep your sounds as you upgrade, and also set up for live performance.
I have the same problem, if you could put up a specific link, how to get the version, I think alot of users here would be greatly happy!!!! Please Please
Shali! In this time I just connected my guitar - Livia, Samick KRT 664; Into my MacBook Pro via analog cable. - Line in - My question: What kind of digital cable is what you use. Is there more kind? I don't care the TradeMark's name. Only the functional name. By the way: That was a good and understandable video tuto. I'm from Hungary. THX!
For the Macbook Pro, I use a Focusrite 2i4 USB interface. It has 2 microphone/instrument inputs. I plug the guitar into the 2i4 with a guitar cable, and then plug the 2i4 into the computer with a USB cable. Hope this helps!
It seems to be not a cheap stuff. Do you have an experience about this? I mean: When I use distorsion or overdrive; I hear so very loud noise. How can I avoid the big noise?
Heeey Bill! You're my ambient gurú, so please answer this: Im planing to buy a Boss ME 80 multi FX and an Ebow because of my low budget I can't buy lots of stomps, besides the tons of effects it has the option to play up to 3 delays simultaniusly plus a not so big reverb and comes with volume pedal, some say multi FX are crap and stomb boxes are the only way to go but I've seen in your videos the awesome sounds you get with software FX, but I don't have a Mac or a suitable PC so is the ME80 a good way to start? or should I save for better individual stompboxes?
+Zilmayjaink Hey! I took a peek at the ME 80 user manual, and looked at Rob Chapman's demo. Certainly having the option of 3 delays and a reverb is a good thing for ambient guitar tones. A couple of thoughts: 1. I like the way you can dial your patch in with real knobs instead of menus 2. The effects order looks like it is fixed. Not necessarily an issue, as long you like the order 3. The Rob Chapman video made a good point that there is only one speaker cab simulation, and it is only on when headphones are plugged in. Are you planning on running into an amp/amps, or are you running direct? Something to consider. 4. There is no effects loop, so you can't really expand by patching in other effects I think that if you can live with the limitations, the unit could be a good option, but...you might find yourself outgrowing it fairly quickly when you start looking to expand. Something like a Line 6 POD HD500X would probably be more flexible for not too much more money. Can you try the unit out or buy from an online retailer with a good return policy? I sometimes do this (...Musician's Friend) and return the item if I don't really like it.
+Chords Of Orion Thanks man! Fantastic answer. I will run it trough an amp I have a little fender 15W practice amp but along with the pedalboard I will buy a champion 100. I have seen demos of the Line 6 POD but my budget is tight and there's the ebow and a ditto looper and the amp, maybe I could forget the ebow and go for the Line 6 but now Im saving and Its just a dilemma. By the way, I will use the pedalboards for other music like psychedelic/experimental rock and most of all post rock, not just for ambient. Talking of ambient, lets check ambient turorial #5!...
Very helpful, i want to use my flamenco guitar to apply these sound distorstion techniques, and maybe over lay it on an ambient sound track, i'm a complete beginnger, can garageband do all of this or do i need additional software ? thanks
fish and banana How will you be recording the flamenco guitar? With a microphone? If so, I might suggest recording the track without effects first ,and then just adding them to the existing recorded track You should not need any additional software.
I have Logic Pro X and Garage Band 10. No Dream Canyon. I have downloaded your patch but when i try to open it, it just says, the file can't be opened? Any ideas anyone?
bro can u help me out i have garageband 10 and cant find the dream canyon and some other amps are also missing i have installed all the essential sounds countless times but cant find em can u please guide me from where can i get more amps and especially dream canyon many thanx in advance my bro
So sorry. when I created this video, I did not realize that the "Dream Canyon" preset only came with Logic and MainStage. And I have Logic installed on the computer that I demoed. Here is the breakdown of the effects used: Noise Gate Pedalboard with the TubeBurner and RoboFlanger Amp is the Modern British Stack Channel EQ with a high pass at 99Hz Compressor 4.2:1 ratio Delay Designer with 15 taps !!!!! Then there is a bus with Space Designer set to the Prince Hall One Preset The biggest issue is Delay Designer. The Logic version includes a full user interface whereas the GB version has a very simple UI with nowhere near the options. If you scroll down the comments, you will see that André Ahlers was able to build out a GB version of the patch based on the effects.
great tutorial, can you do the same with REAL gear? just to compare the "cheap" GarageBand effects vs the Real Pedals effects? I mean the dreamy sound on real gear sounds better?
Hey Mykey! Sorry you don't have the preset. As you can see by the comments below, you are not alone. I am wondering if it is because I also have Logic Pro on the same machine. In any case, I saved the preset for you and uploaded it for you to get: chordsoforion.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/DreamCanyon.zip. Just extract the .patch file from the ZIP and place in the following folder: /youruser/music/audio music apps/patches/audio. The patch should then show up in GB as a user patch when you add a guitar track to your project. Let me know if that works for you - Bill
Well, I've got an iMac that has never LPX installed on it, so when I get a chance, I will try installing GB 10 and see what I get. Gonna be a couple of weeks though... Sorry it's not working for ya.
Chords Of Orion Figured it out! So for everyone who can't find "Dream canyon" in Garage Band, you need to install Logic Pro X first. It will show up after it is done installing. Thank you so much Bill for the help! Greatly appreciate it!
Mykey Avila That's awesome! Also a lesson to me. I'll be sure to use a machine without Logic Pro the next time I do a GB demo. I hope the rest of your week is all making music instead of troubleshooting!

Very cool. Nice use of GB.

Mine doesn't have dream canyon. Was this a sound pack you downloaded or is my Garage band being funky?
amazing! thanks for breaking this down so concisely.
+Zachary Rowden Glad you liked it!!!
Great lesson again.. thank you so much!
Wow great tip
Love it, thanks man!
Glad you like it!
🤘🤘 Also love the TDI zip folder sitting on your desktop. Have one myself, doing a little tuning??
Ha! Yes - I still have the car - almost 8 years after this video posted! It is still stock (except for the Dieselgate fix).
Maan ooooohhh man. I loved your video. It opened my eyes. Thank you!
+spontanp You're welcome. Thanks for letting me know you got some value out of the video!
Jake Carrano - Sorry, but your settings won't allow me to reply directly to your question. Nice Carvin.
Man! If I recall correctly, I purchased that guitar in 2003. And it still is as amazing to me now as it was then!!
any advice on what chords to pick for this? the stuff you were playing is so beautiful

Which version of Garageband are you using? I've got 10.1.0 and I don't see the Dream Canyon in the Experimental Guitar section. Thanks.
I have the same problem, I'm using garageband 10.1.5 :(
same :(
I have the same problem, if you could put up a specific link, how to get the version, I think alot of users here would be greatly happy!!!! Please Please
Can you do one for shoegaze-type vocals?
That would be an interesting video for sure, but alas I know very little about mixing shoegaze vocals.

P.D. I will try it on a store called guitar gear here in México, obviusly the ear has the last word.
Thanks for the advice (:

Well, I have LOTS of videos on the channel demoing the use of real pedal effects. Please check them out if you have not already done so!
thank, is there any way you can do this tutorial on logic pro? I have guitar band 11 and there's no dream canyon
Yes, you could this in Logic. The steps will be a little different.
thanks, but there's no dream canyon effect.... also i have garage band 11 and there's also no dram canyon, any ideas?
beer optional? i think not!
Can i get this sound on iPhone? I don't have Mac:(
I don't know. I suggest exploring Garageband on the iPhone and seeing what it will do.
is this software free?
GarageBand is part of the Mac operating system, and thus comes included with any Mac.
Lost me the minute you asked to open DREAM CANYON.
Check out the comments on the video. Someone here recreated Dream Canyon and kindly shared how to do so. It was very helpful!!
Anyone tried this on iPad?
At 4:44 my jaw dropped. At 4:55 I ordered iRig 2
+spontanp Alright!!!
I have Garageband 10 and I don't even have Dream Canyon... Sucks.
