- Find one at Lenovo - lon.tv/ti0pq (compensated affiliate link) - This is one of the nicest laptops I've looked at in quite some time - it has a new Ryzen 6900HS along with an Nvidia 3050 GPU in a relatively thin and light package. A nice solid laptop for general use and mid-range gaming. See more laptops: lon.tv/laptops and subscribe! lon.tv/s

Some comments on price - the Lenovo store fluctuates frequently as deals come and go. Right now Costco has this machine for $1299 if you are a member - www.costco.com/lenovo-slim-7-pro-x-14.5%22-touchscreen-laptop---amd-ryzen-9-6900hs---geforce-rtx-3050---120hz-3072-x-1920-display---windows-11.product.100976621.html
Costco is now listing it at $1599, not $1299. Not sure what happened there!
@@stevenmckenna8236 EZ, the deal is over, I picked one up for 1300, however, taxes and all it's like high 1400 out of door. Great deal none the less. I got mine dual booting with a primary OS Fedora.
Mine worked with Ubuntu 22.04. However - can only make screen brightness work through terminal cmds
Coscto now has it for $1099 after $500 off. I will take advantage of this promotion based on the review I just watched here.
@@jerrybeckner5954 I'm at a fork in the road between this at $1099 or the ASUS G14 at Best Buy for around the same cost.
love how you did the comparison between the cpu graphics vs the discrete gpu!
What about discrete gpu on the external monitor. Is that possible? I don't see dedicated video port, so it must go over usbc..
Excellent review. Like the gaming video demo and the listing of power vs legion and others.
Great review and the Linux test was awesome for when you need it for dual boot
This laptop on sale right now at Costco for $1299 (i.e., in the United States) That is an absolute steal!
Yep thinking of the 7I 16 inch that will go on sale too next wed. at 1200 plus
Are you sure it's the same? With RTX 3050 graphics?
This is now on sale for $800 on best buy with the 16 gig model.
I just got this today but must be missing something. My old surface pro 6 seems to have a better display, even though this one has better specs. Is the some config that I’m not seeing?
Wow, what a great review. I've been looking at this laptop and just assumed RDR2 wouldnt run well on it. Amazing!
My week isn't complete without the 'Lon looks into webcam' look. Droopy The Dog meets Herman Munster. Classic.
My speedometer with 5800u lenovo ideapad 5 pro gives 240 when run with Chrome.
What about battery life for this can anyone please reply any longtime user who used this as part of their day-to-day life.
thank you very much, this is what I needed to know, battery life under high load, I thought it is about 10 to 11 hours/low load, 7 hours/high load.
Quick note - if you’re using the FREE version of Resolve it doesn’t use the GPU for decoding video. The paid version does.
Yes but I believe it uses the GPU for encode? Obviously a performance difference in the demo.
How do you switch to edit using the GPU?
Lon correction FYI
6800HS processor model is $1399 and the 6900HS is much more expensive btw. I just checked the site.
Costco has the 6900HS model for 1299 this month
How did you deactivate the nvidia?
Lenovo is making great laptops right now. I would say best
AMD Ryzen™ 7 6800HS Processor (3.20 GHz up to 4.70 GHz) and it said to weigh 1.58Kg, which I do not consider light or portable. I am concerned that be getting something significantly different from the ones reviewed here and other channels. My browser usually has between 20 and 30 pages open and I work simultaneously on word and excel documents, while playing music on RUclips. Tasks that my Ideapad 5 14 inch took in its stride with 8GB ram and 256 GB hard drive. I am replacing it because one hinge broke suddenly and I could not lift the screen and after taking it to a repair shop, now it doesn't power on. I'm hoping to get similar or better performance from the yoga or to find a more portable option
Where can I buy it in Europe?
Is Ubuntu supported now on this laptop ?
I have a question, does this display support gsync? I've heard mixed messages about it supporting it
Is the AMD model supports video output to a TV via a USB-C to HDMI cable?
yes it does
@@AnggiWijaya thank you
Is intel version, i7-127000h, intel Iris one good also???
i have it, and i think yes :)
Thanks for the thorough review.
Just one thing, at 7:07 imo there is no point playing 1080p60 on that kind of laptop. YT 1080 quality is garbage and even on 1080p display you need to render at at least 1440p to get a clear image (what 1080 should actually look like).
I would rather see how it handles decoding 4k60, and RUclips site should allow playing res higher than display.
I test based on the screen resolution - we often see problems even with RUclips quality and low bitrates on some of these machines.
I believe the browserbench score for the M1 should be much higher (about 300) now as software optimizations (especially Chrome) have been made over the past 2 years.
The M1 is 18 months old. He needs to update to the M2 browser benchmark. But I suppose that makes Windows look bad?
Since there's no HDMI port, do the USB C ports support external displays?
Yes it does
They are actually thunderbolts.
@Sariel actually they are not on the AMD model. However if you get the Intel processor one it does have thunderbolt ports. This is because thunderbolt was developed by Intel in collaboration with apple.
Weird that they put an HDMI port on the Intel version but not on the AMD version. Finally bought the AMD version from Costco last month. Great laptop except for the battery life and Lenovo bloatware.
The USB C ports on the AMD version do support video out.
@@stan.jk3 is the battery life that bad? How many hours of use unplugged?
Love the videos, you explain everything with professional detail. I recommend reducing the busyness of the space behind you. It really helps with producing the cleanest and slickest content.
I'm the person looking at the Mac, but not quite pleased with its compatibility. So Lenovo it is, I guess.
I think you made a minor error on the price. $1400 is the base model but configured like shown it’s $1765. Still a good deal!
Via lenovo chat i was able to negotiate it down to 1,588 before tax. Im not a student or instructor. Just asked for a discount
Ummm. Pretty sure this is same model being sold at Costco for $1299 this month.
It's $1299 at Costco
For a 3050 laptop running on low wattage?? It's very expensive. They're trying to make up for the money lost during the pandemic by charging us extra
@@idman2069 id rather have a computer then not have one. Been waiting for the perfect one over a year now since pandemic. Realized there's nothing perfect
How much ram is the 6900hs graphics using
4GB
it's 32gb of ram but 4gb of VRAM
Both wrong. It uses as much shared RAM as VRAM as it needs. The allocation size in UEFI is only for reserving that amount, but the iGPU can still request more.
@@TheHavocInferno if you have a 3050 you aren't gunna be using the 680m iGPU
Pretty sad Lenovo is being so cheap Lon that they won't give you the laptop to keep. You're doing a full review and giving them exposure on their new machine, let alone you're an established RUclipsr with 340K subs.
It's ok I have plenty of computers :)
This looks like a great machine. Especially for the price. I would even disable the Rtx3050 and run on integrated rdna2 and save the battery.
Great processor, great keyboard, great screen.
Cosco $1299.99
Can't Windows laptop manufacturers now stop making small function keys? Can't they learn from MacBook?
Still no Thunderbolt support. A major drawback to ALL Ryzen based systems.
Not for the vast majority of users
Thank you for testing Linux
Don’t even try to run Linux on this machine. I could not get Fedora 36 without breaking the hardware. The wifi situation is easier since you can replace that for $30
@@mariozamora9684 wait.. how did u break hardware? I wanted to buy ryzen version because of Linux.. and it is risk?
@@mariozamora9684 Have you had any luck since? Im planning to buy this same laptop, but no linux is a dealbreaker to me
@@gagoventiocho same for me, some news guys ?
I barely got it to run ubuntu 22.10. Had trouble of WiFi & keyboard not working but found a hack online. The resolution is however whack in chrome and mozilla. I will try it with fedora but expecting the same.
I wish it came without a dedicated Gpu
reportedly you can turn it off in bios
@@babblebam yeah but I don't wanna pay extra 300$ for it
@@hiphophead8053 yep, fair point
You can remove it on Lenovo website
@@hans8201 in most countries, the Lenovo configurator only allows removing the 3050 if you also only get 16GB RAM. In some countries, the 3050 can't be removed at all.
If it had a choice of RGB keyboard then I would get it!
Battery life please?
Hate laptop review that don’t talk about battery life.
I'd rather buy my college student kids three $500 laptops than one $1500 laptop.
That will be unusable in a year
@@huttonberries768 That's the point. Laptops, especially used by students, are handled roughly. I'd rather have a broken $500 laptop than a broken $1500 laptop.
@@kevinbuckley4231 then teach your students to be more careful and respectful
@@huttonberries768 Great idea! I'll get right on that.
@@kevinbuckley4231 this laptop here will be much sturdier than any 500$ laptop.
Also, teach your kids to treat expensive devices with care?
