    Bought it new after extensive research earlier in the year. Best bang for your buck. The selling point is the 2.8 aperture. Everything else is extra and great to have.

      agreed... it means nothing without the apertures... both lenses take a pretty good shot at f8... how does the sigma at f2.8 compare to the nikkor at 3.5

    I’m using the Sigma on my D7100. As a lifelong Nikon user, I would have loved to have the 17-55mm f2.8, however even a used version of that lens is still three times the price of a new Sigma. So, I gave the Sigma a try (after first trying the Tamron, with which I was disappointed with).
    In my experience, the Sigma does the job for me and I find that I no longer desire the much more expensive Nikon. Reviews I’ve read of the Sigma say that, optically, it is equal to or slightly better in performance than the Nikon. No, it’s not built as well, to be honest. The Nikon is built like a tank. The Sigma is plastic. But’s it’s also significantly less expensive. And if it does the same job?
    Conclusion, the Sigma is not a good lens, it’s a GREAT lens. I highly recommend it. AF is very fast, much faster than the Tamron.

      Does it have issue with D7100? Like AF, the OS or zoom playback? Because i updated my firmware version "c" 1.03 to 1.04. And Im thinking of buying this lens.

    The Sigma has a couple issues, one specific to Nikon shooters.
    #1 - The zoom ring turns in the opposite direction from Nikon zooms.
    Depending on what and how you shoot, that may or may not make a difference.
    If you have Nikon muscle memory, you will be turning the Sigma zoom ring in the wrong direction.
    I shot volleyball with the lens, and I kept turning the zoom ring the wrong way, and loosing shots. After 15 minutes of this, I gave up in frustration. No more Sigma zooms for me.
    #2 - The zoom ring has a short 60 degree throw.
    Couple the short zoom throw with an extending zoom design, and the zoom ring is STIFF, and requires a relatively significant amount of force to turn.
    I would rather have a longer 120 degree throw and and less turning effort.

      @brianbassett5468  2 месяца назад +1

      Honestly not allot... Especially as far as overall image quality and sharpness at F11 and F8 those two would be very comparable... I do think that there seems to be a bit more contrast with the sigma, so if you're someone that adds contrast in post, you would probably prefer the Sigma..

    You should definitely give Lightroom a try. I've been a photographer and Photoshop user since it came out, but after trying Lightroom a few years ago I use it almost exclusively. I'd say 90%+ of my work gets done in Lightroom and I only use Photoshop when an image needs major surgery. It's just so much faster and easier. I sub to the Adobe Creative Cloud. You get Photoshop, Lightroom, cloud storage and a few other things for $9.99 per month. This also ensures you have the most up to date versions of the programs as you get all the upgrades and updates for free.

    I've been getting a lot of suggestion on getting this Sigma lens; seems really nice for its price. I normally use my nifty fifty 1.8 as a daily driver but quite hard to get around with the length. I want a wider angle lens to add in my gearkit, and so far my choices are Rokinon 14mm 2.0 (limiting but quite nice uwa), Nikkor 24mm 2.8, and this Sigma 17-50 2.8. Which one should I go for?

    • @brianbassett5468
      @brianbassett5468  6 лет назад

      Depending on what you primarily shoot, the 14mm is a super wide angle, great for landscape, the 24mm is a unique lens that the autofocus will not work on many camera's, however it would be great for video.. the sigma really is a good all around lens plus has optical image stabilization. If you shoot on a tripod allot and want some nicer wide angle shots then you will get some sharper better pictures with the 14 or 24... The sigma is great all round lens, video, landscape, portrait etc.

I'm not talking about still video recording... please suggest me the lens my budget is $1000...by the way I also need the lens for wedding,landscape and portrait photography and videography...

      The lens in this video is perfect match for a APS-C Sensor Nikon and video, great low light performer, great image quality and image stabilization. The only thing I don't like about this lens for video is its noisy when focusing however if you use an external mic it works great. However If I was filming Action Video something that needed really good auto-focus I would recommend using a Canon camera pared with a cannon STM lens like the Canon SL2, or T71 or 77D or 80d.. Nikon's AutoFocus is horrible so if your really good with manual focus you can make it happen, however I would recomend The Cannon 77D paired with the EF-S 18-135stm lens this is by no means perfect for everything however this would be better for action type video. The 1.8 is super cheap and you can get some amazing results.. Plus if you ever upgrade to full frame, those 50mm primes will work great on something like the Canon 6d mark 2 or 5d mark 4 or even work on the Canon eos r or eos rp full frame mirroless via an adapter.. The Sigma 17-50 will only work on your 80d or apsc sensor camera

    I have the Sigma 17-70 HSM (the one before the current "C" lens came out). but I keep hearing how good the 17-50 is. Do you think there's that much difference between the older 17-70 and the current 17-50?

    • @brianbassett5468
      @brianbassett5468  6 лет назад +1

      +c0gsinc0gs Great question, I'm not sure I would think they would be very similar in image quality. I have never shot on the Sigma 17-70mm, there is probably benefits to both, in ways I think the 17-70 would be better, and In other ways I would bet the 17-50 would be better. With my experience where the 17-50 really shines is at the 50mm focal length.

    • @ancientplayground
      @ancientplayground 6 лет назад

      I own the 17-70. It is a nice lens. Images are quite sharp especially with the ability to dial in the lens using the USB dock. I am pretty sure the USB dock doesn't support this lens though. I have been looking into this lens to shoot events and weddings with because it is a constant 2.8 compared to the 17-70 that has a variable aperture from 2.8-4. The 17-70 is a very nice every day lens though. I have been running it on a D5300 BTW.

    Hello! Could you please give me a piece of advice? )) I have a standard canon 18-55 lens, I want to change it to a more high-aperture one. I take pictures of my kid, she is always in motion, often at home, where the lighting is weak and I have to turn up the iso to freeze motion at a short shutter speed. As a result, the quality of the photo is awful. And I also like to take pictures of landscapes, but this happens from time to time. What lens would you advise to buy? Now I consider the canon 35 mm f2, it is not cheap, so I don’t want to regret it later. Is this fix lens suitable for portrait and landscape shooting, as well as for video? Or it's better to by sigma 17-50? Thanks a lot if anybody answers!

      Kamikaze KMK The canon 80d is an awesome camera... For video the sigma 17-50 f2.8 is a beautiful lens for that and if I had to pick one of those 3 lens it would be that one because it has OS optical stablzation and 2nd it looks great at f2.8.. My 2nd choice would be the 18-135, which I also own for my 77d I love that lens and it's great for zooming in, 3rd would be the 50 1.8 which I also own and believe it's the best lens of the 3 for portraits for photography I love that lens it's absolutely beautiful, however the focal length on mounted on a APSC senor is actually 80mm which will not fit in most video/film making.. However I would recommend owning all 3 for that camera, however if you can only afford one go with the sigma

      I believe astrophotography with a crop sensor camera is an exercise in frustration. The noise in the picture is too much. Maybe if you use a good star tracker and specialized software for stacking astro pictures the result will be good. But I've never used techniques like that myself and cannot recommend something specific. I have this lens and a Canon crop sensor camera. It's a good lens and I recommend it. I see it's $300 at B&H atm. I'm 100% sure you will not find a better one at that price. It's more suitable for photos than for video, because the AF motors are noisy. If you record your sound off-camera or replace it with music, though, it's good for video too. But for astro one simply needs better light gathering abilities than crop sensor cameras offer.
