- The lockdown rules have been eased just enough that heritage railways around the UK can now mobilise to implement social distancing measures and other safety precautions, in order for them to re-open in at least some capacity. One such line, the Dartmouth Steam Railway welcomed the return of steam hauled services over their metals having taken, and actively enforced, such measures.
The railway fronted a revised single train service, operating six return trips between Paignton and Kingswear. As part of the safety precautions taken, services did not stop at any intermediate stations. Hauling a resplendent rake of umber & cream coaching stock, motive power was provided by GWR designed 'Manor' Class - 7827 "Lydham Manor", tackling the gradients of the English Riviera through the accompanying striking scenery - the preservation gods must've been smiling.

All footage filmed on Monday the 6th of July 2020.
I love this railway. I had many happy holidays in Paignton in my teens, and later when my kids were small. Going down to Kingswear and Dartmouth by steam train is just glorious.
Totally agree with you. We usually spent our childhood holidays in Torquay and the day out by the train to Dartmouth was one of the best days. Much more fun than the car.
excellent shot nice to see these up and running again in these strange times 👍
Thanks very much. It's a refreshing sight after the last few months.
I agree, Barry - ''tis great !! 👍👍-Ian
I been on the Dartmouth steam rillway
Hi mate good video I was at Swanage today
Well filmed production. Tempted to go and have a look later in the week myself now
Thanks very much. Well worth it.
Great video
Thank you
7827 is really loud going up those hills to Churston
Fantastic
Thanks
Ask Dartmouth to lend us SVR 7827 while 7812 is away
7827 is currently out of ticket
seemed a bit short on passengers?
Social Distancing
Just noticed all the windows were open in the coaches. Probably required to do so.
Certainly would help with ventilation. It was boiling.
I'm looking at maybe getting down there at some point is there anyway of finding out the loco roster
There is no public loco roster for the DSR.
@@TheSouthernerYTChannel right OK just turn up and see.
Essentially yes
Super nice :)
Thank you
One of the best heritage lines in the UK
For scenic value, certainly.
What about the North Yorkshire Moors Railway
Yep North Yorkshire moors railway is amazing,I’ve done that trip once while on holiday from NZ,but South Devon as a special place in my heart.
Great footage of some much-needed western motive power!
Thank you very much!
Some great angles there👍 What a joy to see steam being able to get up and running again. Love the patriotic flag wavers at 2.30!!!
Thanks very much! It's certainly a pleasure after so many months without.
Good to see them attempting to operate again. Interesting to see a couple of cruise ships around 3:25.
It's certainly nice to see railways reopening. The cruise ships are a regular thing on the south coast at the moment. With all cruises suspended, the ships - normally out abroad - have a lack of places to dock. A large amount are currently anchored in Weymouth bay, as well as Bournemouth bay.
@@TheSouthernerYTChannel After watching this one, I had a look at some of the other well known ones which are attempting to re-open. I’ll wait until (if) they revert to more normal activity though.
@@johnkeepin7527 Can only agree with you. Better safe than sorry.
#ReturnToSteam
What an amazing line! Amazing views and a beautiful train! Great catches and camera work once again! Are these all compartment style cars?
Also, Yay pride flag @11:38 😍
Thanks very much for the kind words! It's amazingly picturesque, and the gradients on the railway make for some excellent noise. Not all the coaches consisted of compartments, however any open coaches had protective screen dividers to help enforce the safety measures. I couldn't leave the pride flag out, once I'd spotted it. I had to include it.
@@TheSouthernerYTChannel Lucius Beebe and Charles Clegg would be proud! And that stack talk it amazing!
