Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway - 'Steam Trains return to Romney Marsh' 04/07/2020

- As the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions continue to ease, the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway became the spearhead for the return of passenger operations for heritage railways.
The RH&DR faced the elements with their purple timetable, featuring two trains in service working between New Romney, and the southern terminus at Dungeness. Pre-booking was essential for travel, with the railway working tirelessly throughout the day to enforce social distancing guidelines, and keeping public areas clean. Both locomotives in service were adorned by headboards, reading "Steam Trains return to Romney Marsh" in celebration of the railway's efforts, and all the volunteers and paid staff who brought the railway back to life.
At Dungeness, the locomotives ran around there respective coaching stock via the balloon loop, in order to keep the coach sets facing the same way throughout the day, easing operations and safety precautions at New Romney.

RH&DR Mountain Class - No5 "Hercules"

It's a rare occurrence, but not unheard of - their Santa Specials do the same. It's certainly great to see things coming back to life.
I first rode on the RHDR in 1949 and then again in 1950 as a young boy , wonderful. I last rode in 1974 since I live in Nottingham it's unlikely I will will go again at my age but the great memories will remain with me. In 1949 we stayed at the Jolly Fisherman in Greatstones and my bedroom overlooked the line. Bliss for an 8 year old!

I can't believe I missed this video a week ago! Glad I found it! RH&DRy is one of my favorites over there and one of several I donated to for their relief efforts. Glad they had great operating plans! This railway is such an inspiration to me, I want to do something similar here in the US (except at a larger scale/gauge to avoid taking RH&DRy's fame)

No. No7 "Typhoon" was approaching the end of its boiler ticket, so has effectively been withdrawn.
Great video i hope to get down there soon. Would you say there enough time to film the new romney departure then drive to Dungeness to film the arrival? Trying to figure out a rough plan to get the most out of a day there
