So glad Green Goddess is restored. In these straightened times I feared that was the end of her when I read about the collision. We have a family photograph somewhere of me standing on the footplate as a 7y old in 1946.It was in the yard, and as a member of a railway family I was amused to see a driving wheel being raised against the springs with a crow bar! One could wander anywhere in those days.
Fantastic railway- went on it 40yrs ago and 4yrs ago- hopefully again a bit sooner. I thought my garden railway trackbed was rough! I'm surprised these locos don't derail more.
I traveled on this train in about 1946 or 7, Wonderful to see it again after all these years. Such memories. There was still lots of barbed wire about then and not many trees and bushes. My minder was a lady from a holiday camp, We had a carriage area to ourselves, Well done to all who worked to restore the loco and the train. The Green Goddess, the name stayed with me. 👍🏻
I have a photo of Mr. George Barlow with Green Goddess. He was senior engine driver for decades. Met long time general manager John Snell at Redwood Valley Railway, Berkely California.
Lovely . My Dad, whose funeral is on Monday, liked this train . We all went on a day many years ago for one of my sons birthday treats . Wonderful to see this pop up on my feed.
Wow, not been on the RH&DR since i was a kid back in the late 70's. Remember the locos well. Sad to see how tired the permanent way is looking, some re-ballasting and new track needed by the looks of it. Fantastic railway though, they do well to keep it going seeing that it's open all year. Amazing to see these locos still going strong after nearly a century of use.
Remember my late Dad taking me on the RH&DR when I was a nipper many, many years ago, must have been in the 50's.Despite the dodgy track in places loco's look amazing.
No. A railway like this is just referred to as a Narrow-Gauge Railway (there are a few in the US). This railway ran a 'School Service' until 2015, carrying students from Dungeness to New Romney.
@@TheSouthernerYTChannel Oh, this counts as a narrow gauge railway? (I mean, it _is_ a gauge of rail that's more narrow than the standard, but I thought this kind had its own name). But that is some of the neatest stuff I've ever heard. I wish *I* could commute to school on one of these!
With my camera zoomed in that far, it looks worse than it is. It's worth bearing in mind that this railway is 1/3rd of full scale, running on 15" gauge track. Every bump, jolt, and dip that the camera picks up gets exaggerated compared to the size of the locomotives.
First rode this railway in1949 and 1950 then 1974 and1978, think the track was better then but still a grand railway. Henry Greenly didn't do a bad job!
That track is looking terrible these days. It is seriously time to do something about it before there is an accident. Th locos and trains are useless if they have no track to run on.
All very well saying this, but it all comes down to cash flow and donations. So you'd best dig deep. It's worth bearing in mind that this railway is 1/3rd of full scale, running on 15" gauge track. amazing footage. Am I Ok to say I worry as the tracks look really bumpy especially all the long shots taken in the video. it looks like a really bumpy ride

@@TheSouthernerYTChannel true, the tracks just didn't look straight to me, looks woobly. I haven't been to the railway since I was younger. The railway had a video made about their railway and my family got featured a bit when rode behind Hurricane. I would love to revisit. :D
@@TheSouthernerYTChannel thank you for clearing that up. :) certainly lookning forward to a trip to the railway again. just worried about since the carriages a lot smaller and obviously not as wide doors
The health and safety at work regulations book is about 2/5 mine regulations, 2/5 railway regulations and 1/5 everything else. Suffice to say if those tracks were dangerous, HSE would stop the RH&D running until they were fixed.
Looking at the sideways and up and down movement of the locomotive on some stretches of track, it does not seem to be a comfortable ride for the driver or indeed, the passengers.
I believe the tractor was trying to beat the train at the level crossing and I believe the tractor driver was at fault because he should have wait for green goddess to go through then he can go
What you think you get: awesome and powerful large express locomotive
What you get: smole and powerful express locomotive
I see this as a complete win

I remember how they had a special day to ring in Samson’s return, great day I can imagine.
It was a great day: ruclips.net/video/QGNMc7o0s2o/видео.html
See the little Queen of steam, yesterday congratulations to Danny and all involved ,
Ayy!
I've been here like 3 times with my cousins and I rode this train, good to see it's running again!
They do need to work on their track. It is very rough in spots.
They need a mini Plasser & Theurer ;)

My favorite thing about these little guys is that back in the day they were actually used for light transit purposes.
Doc Brown I’m gonna need that time machine
School trains still operated as late as 2015.

12:44 just saw a cute bunny
Spectacular video though :D
Funnily enough, I didn't notice the bunny until I was editing this video together. Gave me a chuckle.
TheSoutherner well now you know lol
If you can put up with the slightly rough ride this railway is a British gem of a railway
That was a really enjoyable video. Great work! This seems like quite a nice railway.
Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it. The railway is fantastic.
Good to have her back. Hopefully no more tractors to get in her way
Or rude steamrollers.

fantastic footage
Thank you
All hail the Green Goddess of Steam!
Exelente video !!!
Super locomotora 😍🚂
Beautiful equipment. Track needs surfacing.
Pffft, talk about walking in cake.

The Romney have the best loco names, it must be said.
Good to see her back!

This is so awesome!
Glad that bunny moved before Green Goddess hit it.
Well, since rabbits have good hearing, it probably heard it before the camera started filming. And it probably felt the train through the tracks
Awesome video soon
Cheers

wow its a train race with green goddess and Samson racing each other
Green goddess whistle do sent sound right?
I feel so bad for you for you responding to these comments.
Does anyone know How long has no.2 had her new whistle?
Mini steam Loco, so cute
Looks like a small A3 pacific
It is.
The design was adapted from the GNR A1's.
Oh, hi Henry! You look... Smaller?
And has more wheels

Tractor driver was waiting at the occupation crossing but didn't realise their front counter weight was breaching the loading gauge
did it rusty
We got a trespasser at 12:44 😂
I'm afraid I would get motion sickness if I rode on these tracks.
Near my caravan
For being British trains, they don’t sound half bad.
At 12:50 that rabbit almost got hit 😯
Rabbits and Foxes along the RH&DR metals are a common sight. They usually move in time.
@@TheSouthernerYTChannel yeah
Narogage.
what gauge are these trains and where can they be bought @thesoutherner
15" gauge.
None of the operating fleet at the RH&DR is for sale.
