For clarity you can try taping on a pink, red or magenta filter over the lens depending on depth. Should help a bit with glare but also make everything look more natural and less green after 10+ feet. Amazing content as always JS! These vids are incredibly educational.
Great video and very informative. To see the fish in their natural habitat is amazing. That Sea Bass was beautiful, and the porgys were cool. Now we see what is going on when the bait hits the bottom. All those little fish pecking on the bait clean it out quickly. Thanks for all your videos. It's always a learning experience.
14:20 As the jig is lifted only slightly off the bottom instead of sharply up 4 or 5 feet, the fish look more interested in the bait and don't lose sight of it so much. Crushing the bait sounds like an excellent idea. It should only take a short snap to set the hook anyway.
GOLDEN BLACKFISH💯 loved that you release the big ones too! I do the same and urge everyone too. Big fish are decades old and are the breeders for the future
thanks for the video! shell on makes a difference sometimes, especially with the smaller fish. Looks like a blast watching in realtime, great job as always
Thanks for all the great videos. Well shot, good equipment, good narration, love of fishing is clear, good editing. Thanks for the great content! Looking forward to some footage from Florida!
This is fantastic, so when we were on those fish at our second location all over the down scan... the experience I have always had is they are very picky but also seem to wise up to the baits. Also Garrett said to me when on an area like that, it's best to give it plenty of time because the bite will come in waves from surrounding blackfish.
Impressive drone and impressive video - fascinating to watch the fish behavior with the baited jig. A lot can be learned watching response to different baits. The controlled view of the seabed and fish population is awesome and, as fish don't seem to be bothered by the drone, their behavior is not influenced.
That drone is cool. I like your theory on the golden blackfish. I think some are orange because of the crab orange eggs. Stripers are probably afraid of bubbles since dolphins and seals emit bubbles. That's funny to watch the jig so clearly while fishing. It's like cheating haha. Crank the brightness up on the screen and or get/make a sun visor.
Darkness is your friend when working a screen outside, I have the same problem running ice fishing cameras outside of the tent. We usually have an extra jacket or blanket to drape over our heads. You could probably rig a tube-like sun shield I would guess the depth would need to be at least as deep as it is wide and I would paint the inside flat black. On the ice, I would probably have to hold my head close if not press it against my face against it, but a sunny day on the ice is nothing but glare.
I love black fishing. There are plenty of Rocky bottoms in Long Island Sound. I never pulled my boat until Thanksgiving. Right now is prime fishing. My favorite spot was a ledge 55ft down, just into a sea channel. The reef was maybe 100ft wide and 200ft long, very hard to anchor over, in moving current. Coast Guard chased me off the spot a few times. The biggest fish I caught came off the spot. 11lbs 5oz
I have seen video editors have success with color correcting underwater videos taken with non-professional video equipment. Not my specialty or I would offer some help. Great new drone, love the video.
Great stuff! This is very interesting. Be interested in seeing some artificial plastic baits and how the fish react. Maybe some Gulp bait shrimp lures bounced on the bottom.
John see if the drone manufacturer makes filters for the drone camera. I believe a magenta or red filter would drastically reduce the green hue in the footage and may even improve visual detail in the footage also a polarized filter should help reduce the sun glare you mentioned experiencing.
I have no idea if it would work with that drone, but there are virtual reality headsets that take the feed from your phone. Basically they're just a few mirrors and lenses so it might work???
when I was in STEM club in high school we built one, but our was a LOT bigger and clunkier than this little thing, this one looks so much more handy and portable, and can obviously go more places
Hi John. I bought that drone in the spring after your review of the older model and I thanked you back then..im loving the mini s with the claw attachment..you'll love it..next year I'm going to get the electric e reel for the drone..make life easier
@@JohnSkinnerFishing I have a tub that I run it through after salt water trips..plus put a tool kit together since needs constant cleaning....time will tell if the investment was worth it.
Hey Jon. I’m a construction diver in the ny harbor and I have to say I disagree with what you said about striped bass. It’s mostly schooly sized fish but they are by far the most curious fish I encounter. If I’m cleaning barnacles off of piles they may follow me all day. Most common thing they do is strike my flashlight while I’m working. Thanks for the videos!
Wow. The ones by me clear out if I'm using a tank, but are much less skittish free-diving. The spear fishermen I know all free-dive. I wonder if it's a size thing. I don't see many schoolies.
Must be a size thing. In 10 years I’ve only seen one over slot size fish. I actually bumped into him and I seemed more startled then he did. Everything else scurries away except big American eels
@@JohnSkinnerFishing the only thing ypu can do about the glare is turn the brightness up on the phone and stand with your back to the sun unfortunately

Good job on the drone could not imagine 25 years ago sitting in my kitchen watching this footage
FANTASTIC!! Agree with you about the yellow ones. Thanks so much!
So cool. Glad you throw the big one back.
Great video of using the gladius mini s to fish.

Cool to see the orange color theory underwater. Keep these underwater drone videos coming! They're excellent.
Amazing. So glade you're doing these underwater footages. Hope you do more.
This is next level underwater reconnaissance

Great footage, I’d love to see if you’d draw in some bigger fish by dropping a whole crab down.
In his last blackfish video, he did try putting a bigger chunk of crab and actually got a bigger fish.
Use the Tripletek 8 android tablet for bright sun light. It is rated at 1200 nits. It used for air drones,
Thanks for sharing John, great to see so many fish down there. a beach towel over your head and camera will work well too...

Awesome video John, that's a very educational tool. Thanks for sharing!

Omg. I can think of so many spots I would like to check out. Great video.
unreal footage.
Wow! What an excellent way to gather information. Great video. Thank you.
I've used my underwater camera once flounder fishing Flanders are very curious I did not know that until I use the camera
🙌 Great video. Awesome tool. Love the new book. Learning lots. Thanks
For the glare I've seen others use an Amazon box. Cut out the top and bottom, so you can basically recess the screen into the box.
Absolutely fascinating. Thanks John.
Very interesting! Would they hit the jig if you wound it up REALLY slowly?
As always your videos are full of content making us better fishermen. Appreciate you.
OMG, it's the minisub from the Seaview !! The color is a perfect match !! Where's David Hedison and Richard Basehart ??
Great vids on life at the bottom! Almost like playing a video game except this looks like a 2 person operations.
Love the excitement of you giving your buddy play by play
Have never been able to do that before. Fun stuff.
that underwater drone is gonna bring so much new info, I'm excited to see what you can do with it!
Going to! Ignorance is bliss.
That drone is wicked cool. Great stuff as always.
Will you be able to use that drone while drifting or is it too likely to get hung up?
great video, its always great to see how they react to a bait and once its becomes almost boring to them! awesome info
Wow, wow, wow! I loved it.
Very Cool. John!
Excellent footage! Looking forward to more drone content in future videos!
Great work! Learn something every video you put out
A Filter for that camera may change the color of the video to account for the depth. Looks like a fun toy!
I've been fighting the glare as well. Only thing I can think of is those VR shells that let you put your phone in them

Really nice footage 👌🏾
Golden Blacks
I ways thought it was the golden "seaweed" around the rocks that they were blending into.
Truly fascinating
They make sun shades to go over your phone while droning. i have one for the mini 2. You can probably find one on amazon. Great vid as always skinner!
For my drone I cut one of those 99 cent folders and velcro it around the top and sides. Like a sun shade for a fish finder
Great idea!
Great footage. Thanks for sharing. Do you prefer the Gladius to the Chasing F1?
Definitely the Gladius.
John was having a blast watching his brother hook that bass..lol. I love the drone tho..never knew they existed. Wonder how much $.

I catch the ones with the rusty spots here in Delaware 🤙
Just received my copy!

I can see it’s also important to be on the edges of the rock. Maybe consider casting out a little now.. 💭 work it back until I feel hard bottom.

I should have brought it out Friday to watch the fish eating your crabs while ignoring mine!

Great subcamera . Do the subcam records too?
so cool you are watching tog hit your jig
I liked being able to swim and explore. Really opens up some possibilities. Definitely something that will help me find the best blackfish rocks.

How close were you getting to those fish ?
Hi John get the goggles that goes on your head they're awesome.
You're right. I think I recall seeing something like that.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing good luck
i would love to see how those fish react to a large whole crab
This is great! Will you be doing one for striped bass?🙏🏽
Hey John, you have a discount code for Amazon? Also that drone is awesome, how do I get one of those?
I don't have a discount code, but it looks like they've got a $100 discount now.

That's what I figured. Someone needs to invent something.
When I catch blackfish off sandy bottoms they’re albino looking. Might as well call it a whitefish
I’m really surprised how light it is down there and clear, is it always that good?
Extra clear in the fall.
hey john. they sell cover that act like an umbrella for your phone to deal with your glare. I use it for my drone. prob have it on amazon
Thanks!
John what sizeBlackfish is too big to keep in your opinion?
6#. There are plenty of meaty smaller keepers.

Awesome vid as usual. Is your book available in the new Barns & Noble in Riverhead ?
Thanks and no - Amazon and johnskinnerfishing.
What bait were you using on the jig?
green crab
