Thanks! I had same problem with fuse 57. I replaced it and realized that I had to run the car for a few seconds before the lock system reset. Now all is good!
it happened to me and we replaced the blue fuses behind the glove compartment. the two little blue ones at the bottom right hand side and it now my car works fine... thank you to the guy that put this video.
Hello, Same situation applies to your vehicle. Check the two fuses. If the fuse still fails then there is a door latch that needs replacement as it is drawing too many amps when actuated.
I changed the fuse, and had to drive a little also. Then it worked... but not perfectly (not with the buttons on the key, and the car middle button only locks it seams. But when I use the key in the drivers door it unlocks and locks the other doors. But this stops working if I press the trunk button and lock button. But after driving some meters, some locking mechanisms seem to work again. think I have to change one of the door actuators. This video helped me a bit on the way I think. Thanks!
Hello Chrissy, If you are following the correct procedure then there may be a problem in the vehicle or with the remote. Something like this takes hands on diagnosis. I have a video on Z3, E36 remote initialization in text format. If you have not tried this method I would suggest this first.
The lights are fed power from the footwell module. Check all your fuses to this component. The usual failure is the bulb or the wiring in the headlight.
Hello Andy, If your vehicle is an E90 then replace both 56 and 57 with the 20 amp mini fuse. It should help prevent it from occurring again due to an amperage spike.
Hello, The most common cause is a problem with the diversity antenna. With a problem like this it is best to use the dealer to trace down. They have a test plan that can check to see if your vehicle can see a key signal from another vehicle. This helps prove if it is the car or key. Then if it is the car it could be a fuse, diversity antenna, wiring, or the body control module. Send me the last seven of the VIN and I will look up the fuse location.
If the noise is coming from the door lock actuator it is beginning to fail and I would recommend replacement before it fails in the locked position which turns into a bigger problem :)
Hi, I drive a 2006 325i and yesterday I locked my car and went back out and none of the locks open. Manually, the driver side lock opens but none of the others. Inside the car, the lock switch wont do anything either. Does this sound like a fuse? If not, is replacing the actuators the next step and is it highly expensive? Thanks!
Great vid. So i have a similar problem here... * I have a 2007 bmw e90 318d touring / last month suddenly my two keyfobs stopt working. * The car does not beep me when i leave the key in the fob, and go out the car. ( What does this indicate anyway?) * No problem with ignition. ( Good news indeed Not a programming problem then) * The remote buttons do not activte anything, doorss, lights, etc...completely dead. ( thus not s fuse problem i presume?) Today i got my multimeter and checked the battery it seems working perfectly, 3v measured from soldering edges, no change when the buttons are pressed. So no problem with the battery and soldering... Did the sync process many times... So what is the next step to check?
Hello Alan, If your vehicle has I drive (navigation) it should be under the settings menu. If it does not have navigation you will need to use the stalk switch and BC button to access the car key memory settings.
Hi there i have a bmw 320d touring on a 2008. My locks have stopped working and they dont open with the key fob. I can open the doors manually with the key. when I open the car this way only the drivers door opens. once inside the other doors dont open even from the handles! and to boot my central locking button on the dash doest'n work now along with my fuel cap ... and im low of fuel! Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I am the owner of a 330i. I have this same problem, some times, the car wont open or it wont close from the remote key. And the center unlock/lock button wont do anything. I will try changing the fuses from 15 to 20A to check if this get fixed. Will update my results !
Hello, Can I have the last seven of the VIN to review your wiring diagram. It may be that the door lock actuator is failing internally. The fuse usually opens due to a high amperage spike due to the door lock acutator failing. If you have put in the 20 amp fuses instead of the 15 amp and the problem is still there only on one door it leads me to think the actuator will need replacement to fix this for you.
It might be worth checking the two fuses again to make sure one of them did not open again but it does sound like the actuator. On a bad day I have seen them fail and release a small wisp of smoke (usually with the door shut) and then it no longer opens as it locks in double lock. Unfortunately the smoke will not go back in :) and the actuator is replaced after much difficulty :) Best to replace the bad ones as soon as you can. Best wishes!
I might be able to check if you send me the last seven of the VIN. The other way is to see if you have the options for the alarm in the I drive. If not and you do not hear a sound most often it is not installed. After installation the vehicle will need to be retrofitted via programming.
...see previous post too. I have an E46 now and can make you a video for the GM location. For this model BMW a used general module can be installed and then the key initialized but it still may need to be programmed. If you can find one that has all the same options as your vehicle all you would have to do is install and then initialize the key and windows. Let me know if I can try to help further. Best wishes to you.
Hi, just found your vid. A few days ago, my passenger front door lock stopped working ('07 328xi wagon, so an E91). Unlock doesn't work on the fob, inside button nor the comfort access handle. Lock only works on the fob, nothing else. There's four fuses assigned to lock functions according to my fuse diagram, I just pulled all four and they don't seem blown. Per a comment below, I'll try running the car to see if anything resets, but for now it seems that pulling/resetting didn't help.
I have a 2007 bmw 335i convertible and i was wondering if the angel light have different fuses and what number are the fuses of these lights ? Thank you.
Hello, This sounds like a bad general module. The GM controls the locking system. The key here is that the central unlocking button, remote and tumbler at the door will not make the locks work. The central unlock button is a direct input the the general module and even if the remote system did not work the center button should. This makes the GM the most likely failue. It needs to be programmed upon replacemet and then the key initialized (I have a vid for that) :)
Tried your guide no luck tried the press lock then unlock x3 and release method and this caused the red light on the fob to stay on for 5 secs or so but no doors unlocking so i guess the fobs ok and the problems with the car could it be a fuse or something to do with the door?
very helpfull video really is.. thanks for upload man.. you are a star..... i got a question bro... do you know where is the alternator wire in bmw 320d 3 series? that is coming to battery? is it also passing through trunk by any chance? actually i am installing secondry battery and a split charging replay switch. i am looking for a 12v ignition wire. which only powers when we twist/cycle the key twice. not once. by any chance is that wire somewhere in trunk too? please help. many thanks.
hi i just replaced the lock actuator on driver side door and i was wondering should i switch both fuse 56 and 57? or just one and if so which one ? thank you
hey man, i got a 2006 325i e90, and only my right (front and back) will not work. Sometimes the front door will lock, but not unlock, and the back door will not do either...tried to mess with the fuzes and no such luck. it was a little bit ago, and i will try your method, but do you think it would be a fuze problem because its only the right side and not the left? Thanks
Hello, I looked up the wiring diagram and the fuses still look like 56 and 57 are the ones to replace. If you can send me the last seven of the VIN number to my messages folder I can double check at work but on the online wiring it is 56 and 57. I have a problem with my BMW E46 318i: When I unlock and lock the door with my remote control, every time I hear a harsh noise, that began two weeks ago. What could be the problem? The lock is working, but I still want to fix the noise problem. Many thanks!
hi...thanks for the vid. but i wonder what type is dat ? my type is e36 m50 and i hav same trouble with central lock.. i wonder which fuse number shud i check... once i checked fuse #33 15A as per fuse box information
+Sabaruddin Suhardjo This problem would not apply to your E36. Central locking is controlled by the general module on your vehicle. It would not hurt to check every fuse with a test light just to be sure you did not miss a fuse that may be related to your problem.
Hey I have a 2001 323i just bought car but power locks are not working from remote, switch inside or even when you use the key at door, there is no power. Checked the fuses can you help?
hi how are you doing? I just bought the 2008 bmw 335 convertible but I wanna know how can I trun on the alarm for my car. when I use the remote unlock my car the door will be unlock also the light will be flash but no sound? thank you
Hi good video I think I have the same problem with my car Bmw 330ci 01 I checked all the fuses in the glove compartment and they look fine, I couldn't find the fuse box in the trunk of my car but the fuel door actuator is not working, u think it might be my gm5?
+peperras707 Hello, Can you send me the information on your vehicle to my website www.bmwdiy.com and I will try to help you. It is hard to do using comments.
i have a 2001 BMW 325i sometimes when i open the doors from the key didn't work after that i open the driver door manual and try to open the other doors from inside key and didn't match please can you help me note not all the times
Hello, When the problem happens does the locks work from the central unlock and lock button in the vehicle (not the key) also do you have more than one key to try to see if this may just be a failing remote key?
you wouldnt happen to know what fuse is the hazard and door lock button is on a 2003 bmw 320i please and thanks i also dont have the diagram bought the car used
+Keanu Nones Hello Keanu, Double check the battery terminals and that you have correct voltage from the battery. Have you tried to jump the vehicle at all? The best way to contact me for help is my website at www.bmwdiy.com
Hello Chrishan, I just uploaded a video for you on how the switch works. I hope it helps. I have an E46 also so if you need me to show you how to remove the switch with a video let me know :)
Hi i recently bought a 1998 316i compact I can open the doors with the key but the remote wont open the doors.I tried to reprogramme the key using a guide as i do this i can hear a faint noise but the locks dont open or lock with the remote. Can you help i don't think its the key ?
Thanks! I had same problem with fuse 57. I replaced it and realized that I had to run the car for a few seconds before the lock system reset. Now all is good!

Hello Juan, This fuse panel is behind the glove box. You can access part of it by taking off the cover in the back of the glove box.

This does sound like it may be the fuse problem. I would definitely take a look at the two fuses, replace them, cycle the key and recheck operation.

I believe on older BMW's the fuse panel is in the engine compartment.
hi i just replaced the lock actuator on driver side door and i was wondering should i switch both fuse 56 and 57? or just one and if so which one ?
thank you
Alan, your vehicle only has alarm pre wiring. The alarm would need to be installed and the vehicle programmed at the dealer for it to work correctly.
Hello, Definitely start with the fuses but it sound like it may be the door lock actuator.

One of the latches may failed or the fuse has failed as described in my video.
It should be under locking under the settings menu if your vehicle is equipped with an alarm.
