    I've used a few tripods in my life. My master once said to me that not only tripod is essential for any photographers, but getting a good one can last for life! But I've bough a few over my 15 years span as a professional photographer, I have many reasons to do so, for specific needs for instance. So what's my take on this latest British-made 3 Legged Thing Ray and ball head, Airhed Vu??

    I have had a 3legged thing Air head for a few years. A fantastic ball head- Picked it up at the photography show 3years ago for a great price as well.

    As always a great review. I for one like the colors; less boring yet very capable.

    The important thing is it's light, if you are hiking up a mountain to take birds you wont take a heavy tripod (myself I hold the camera against a rock, fence or tree, anything but carry a tripod). The lack of rigidity isn't a problem, old Astronomer's tip, hang your bag between the legs (Astro tripods usually have a hook for this purpose) and the whole assembly will become very rigid; the maximum load should allow this. We used to hang a full water bottle from the column with telescopes. Have fun ;-)

      Yes, absolutely spot on. I do like this set up. I've tried it on heavy set up and it seems to do the job..

    I love it, light, sturdy, handles my D6 just fine. Its a travel tripod that works for me. I have tried Manfrotto's near equivalent and TLT Ray is lighter, sturdier, quirkier but absolutely does the job better. Ball head is superb quality.

    This was not what I expected. I thought the title would be more like "The new 20mp E-M10 IV" but I will still watch this. 😁

      Of course, that will be too much Olympus in one day. I know Peter's done that this morning with two videos. I will do the EM10 later. Spread out a bit is good, otherwise, there will be no videos to watch later. But this tripod is cool.

    This was an excellent review. I was on the fence about this item but now it’s a go. Thank you so much. Just subscribed, so I look forward to your next video.

    Have you tried Manfrotto compact action tripod? Because I was thinking about comparison with this tripod. Stability and micro adjustments on the head. 🤔

    I like your video reviews. I have to know though, on the Airhed Vu ball head, have you found you miss a fine friction adjustment? I see most ballheads come it in this price range, but a good main adjustment may be enough. Can you please advise on this as I’m considering the Airhed Vu for purchase just now. Thanks.

    I got Albert a year a go looks the same but a bit taller. Like it a lot and my first carbon tripod. i was also temted at Legends at the time but they then only have 3 models then and no one was as i remeber over 1.3m then. So i took the talles one i could find cuse i want to be abel to stand straitup when photographing. If I was to order now i would problobly have orderd the legends instead not when theny have more options. I got it direct from their homepage so it was a fast and easy to get it cisne they was not avavibule in 2,0 version yet in Aweden at the time.

    How "wobbly" do you find the split centre column on this Ray (fully extended)? As I'm looking for a Bucky to gain height (I'm 6'6"), and this has one section more. Otherwise I'm considering the Winston 2.0.

    Care to compare with the Peak Design tripod?

  • @kentsaga6946

    I don't use a tripod that often but I do need one occasion. I was thinking about the three legged thing Corey. It's a travel tripod but with aluminium legs rather than carbon fiber. Do you know if Ray has an aluminum version? Ray seems to be a bit smaller than Corey

    • @3leggedthinguk
      @3leggedthinguk 4 года назад

      Hi Kent, Corey is a similar set-up to Ray - double section centre column, and 5 section legs. Although it doesn't have the same load capability as Ray, Corey is still very capable with up to 14 kg/30 lb load capability. If you're looking for an occasional tripod, Corey is a great choice.

    Hi I'm looking for a tripod for around 200e. I plan to do macro, astrophotography, landscape etc
    I'm 175cm tall. Which tripod would you advice me?

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  3 года назад +1

      Hi Romuald, I am about the same height as you and the Ray I used in this video is find once extended. So I guess you can look for something with similar in terms of maximum height unless, like I said in this video, you intend to use it to film yourself, then it's different as you may want it higher than you. In terms of budget, you can look for good quality aluminium tripods or budget carbon, I would get a more steady tripod in any case so a high end aluminium is better than budget carbon in my experience. Also, what you want to photograph doesn't need anything high frankly. So as long as they are rock steady, that's cool. Look for something like Ray here that has high load capacity and it means that you can hang a bag for extra stability too.

      You may want to check out the new Bucky tripod when it comes out. It's taller than the Ray and only a tiny bit heavier.

    If 3 Legged Thing made Gorillapod-like legs and table/pole clamp in a set. I wouldn't need anything more.

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  4 года назад

      Yes this is pretty versatile setup. I love the transformed table tripod, much sturdier than anything I've got to use on the table.

      @@Red35Photography Could you recommend me some sturdy table/pipe clamp and mini ball head for M43?

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  4 года назад

      @@WT.Mean1539 Small Rig is good for clamps. You still need a strong support even for M43. Mini Ball head? have a look at Manfrotto, they are about £80 GBP though, yet small and strong. If budget isn't an issue, a series 0 Gitzo ball head is the strongest for size. Of been this Airhed Vu I reviewed here is pretty cool, though a little large but 40Kg capacity is pretty crazy.

    • @WT.Mean1539
      @WT.Mean1539 4 года назад

      What are budget options here? I saw some products on Amazon it claims 4kg in spec but the problem is it looks like the one that I have which doesn't work at any angles.
