- HARRY MAYBOURNE is one of Stargate SG-1's best antagonists. Played by actor Tom McBeath, Maybourne went from a detestable military Colonel to a savvy and lovable rogue over the show's long run.
In this conversation with "Dial the Gate" McBeath reminisces about two of Maybourne's most memorable episodes. In Season 4's "Watergate" Jack and Teal'c find the disgraced Colonel frozen in a Russian freezer, where he's been taken over by an alien entity. And in "Paradise Lost" Maybourne uses Furling technology to escape to what he thinks is a utopian society, only to slowly be driven insane by a hallucinogenic plant.

I never hated Maybourne, I always loved him, the best kind of villain IMO

I liked Maybourne too… John DeLance's character was the villain I didn't like. Maybourne you always knew where he was coming from. And then after he was arrested for treason his character shifted just a little more toward enlightened self-interest more than a warped sense of national interest and I really started to love him.
Maybourne was always a delight to see him in the teaser or credits. You knew Jack was gonna have some good barbs with him.
Without a doubt my favorite re occurring character. My buddy is a huge gate fan as well. Says the same thing.
Yes...they had an on screen chemistry that absolutely worked for the show.

After all these yrs from the shows end,Just listening to Tom ,Makes me want to go and binge watch every episode he's in back to back to back.His progression from hard line Military Col.To Bad Guy then King is SO entertaining.I Love Maybourne and Jacks releationship."Cassidy,Sean or david,Butch" Tom is a great actor.

There is NO hate involved. Maybourne one of the best fringe characters in ANY show EVER. A damned shame his character arc wasn't expanded. Props to Tom McBeath for owning Harry. And who's the troglodite that dropped a dislike!
I went to Expo 86, i was only 11 years old,I'm from Wales my Aunt and Uncle moved to Vancouver so we went out to see them for 3/4 weeks, it was absolutely awesome amazing! Wish I was a bit older though! 👍🏴✌️
I went to Expo 86 too, only 4 years old and my sister was 2 1/2. Most of the other attendees were noting that it was unusual for a family to be attending that week, as schools had just opened. But my sister and I weren’t in school yet.

There have been a couple of events over the past couple years that went ahead and fried event-goers eyeballs with those sterilizing UV lights, Tom was a trendsetter.
It was a fantastic dynamic that you simply don't see anywhere else in fiction or non fiction really. I guess best described as a "frienemy" But in a serious context w/ a touch of humor. Id love to see that done today w/ two characters.
Tom would be a fantastic Section 31 agent/commander for a new ST run. Or id love to see him in a B5 reboot. Of course a new SG.
I love/hate him. So hilarious I am on this episode now. I have watched all of them many times. But every couple of few years, I start the series over. This is the episode I am on. Lol. I so miss this show.
I love how he references everyone using the character names. You could tell he really enjoyed working on the show. I remember growing up Maybourne was always this bad guy/dark Jack type but as I got older my appreciation for the character really grew. And of course, It's good to be king!!!
Jack is always full of surprises and in doing that to Mayborne made him a better character. Mayborne reacted just the way Jack wanted him too. Nice job!!

I believe he plays his part well and when they do that well I can make you dislike them I get that but I did not hear him that’s for sure I think he made some of the show

I try to think of his villanous. But he always felt more... comical than really dangerous or villanous. And at the end there he was more or less an ally of sorts.
